New racing game based on platform franchise for PlayStation 3 with 3D support reportedly announced at Sony event; Move racing wheel also inbound.
Sony's imaginative Little Big Planet platforming franchise is opening a new chapter, according to a Canadian vendor tweeting from an official Sony event. According to tweets from retail outlet Future Shop, Sony is developing a Little Big Planet kart racing game for the PlayStation 3.
The news stems from Future Shop's official Twitter account, which reports Sony announced a Little Big Planet kart racing game during its Destination PlayStation retailer event this week in Arizona. The game will reportedly release for the PS3 with 3D support.
Additionally, a second tweet from the retailer says Sony also is planning to release an official PlayStation Move racing wheel, which will be compatible with the new Little Big Planet kart racing game.
As of press time, Sony had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment.
If the Little Big Planet kart racing game is real, it will be the second first-party kart racing game franchise from Sony. The company is also behind Modnation Racers, which was released in 2010 for the PS3 and PSP. A PlayStation Vita version of Modnation Racers is set to release for February 15.
OH MAN SO WAITING FOR THIS GAME.I CAN DO MORE THINGS LIKE BUILTING A NEW WEAPONS LIKE:Super motor, homing thunder missiles, super feather, bowing bombs,Tornato,Vapor Berriar, mole WeeGees, quakes, and more.
@KamuiFei Hahaha! I just read your reply. :) Yes, I did forget a bunch of games. Thanks for adding more. :)
Its not going to have Little Big Planet brand on it. Remember they said they are leaving the franchise.
I think that game is a really bad idea, I mean, I don't imagine that been very different from ModNation
Don't turn LBP in to a racing game , media molecule . I hope its a good sequel to Modnation Racers with the type of improvement we saw in LBP 2 over LBP
Well Sony's already copied the idea of achiements from Microsoft and the hd wii knock off Move from Nintendo, why wouldn't they copy Mario Kart from Nintendo too? They've gotten a reputation of copying ideas from Microsoft and Nintendo. Why stop now? "Xbox 360 is the BEST console EVER made." --John Carmack
Hmmm... as if ModNation isn't enough Sony is gonna make another kart game to compete with a kart game they already made? If only both games could be as good as Crash Team Racing on the PS1.
Modnation racers was the reason I finally decided to buy a PS3, and it didn't disappoint me, the creation tools are so intuitive. I have spent so many hours making tracks, when I have friends try it it's instantly fun. I also love LBP, but despite some attempts, have never been able to get into the level creator, it's good, and extremely powerful, but just not as accessible. I personally would much rather see a modnation racers 2, with the same style of creator (driving out the track is ingenious) but with an expanded tool set (audio cues, road loops, magnetized roads, rain and snow with particle effects, etc.) than a Little Big Planet Kart racer. It's like Sony coming out with a new side-scrolling platformer that lets you create levels, with little stuffed people characters you can customize.
YES PLEASE! Bring it on :) I'm thinking Mario Kart fun aspect, with Sackie cuteness and PS3 graphical superiority.
Little Big Modnation :) there were similaritys bevore and now i wanna see what they make out of it loved modnation and also little big planet
Modnation on the PSP was crap, haven't played the PS3 version. LBP and LBP2 are legendary games, please don't ruin the name with mediocre games.
Can't imagine this would have happened if Media Molecule were still in control of development. Does seem kinda redundant given the nature of LBP and ModNation Racers. I agree with SoNin360: ModNation's creation tools were great but the racing was very mediocre. If this game can nail both aspects then I may get it.
This is so stupid! An obvious grab for extra cash. You can make amazing cart racing games in LBP2. You want a dedicated cart racer in a similar style? Modnation Racers. Completely unnecessary.
@SoNin360 : To me creation is what made modnation racers so great..it made it unique from Mariokart..it wasn't like Sony was saying ''Let's create an experience as close to mariokart as possible except with our own characters''..it felt like they were making a kart game to make a unique experience...not attempt to copy an old one.
I hope it's better than Modnation Racers, the creation stuff was okay, and I would expect that in this game, but the gameplay, in my opinion, sucked. This has me excited as I like kart racers, though mainly Mario Kart, which I doubt this game will top. Nonetheless, still looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
@KamuiFei- I hate to break the ice to you, but you are aware Mortal Kombat already has a kart racing (mini)game, right?... http://www.webwombat.com.au/games/images/mk-armageddon-3.jpg
MMM So motion racers can do that and i got the game as well. For LBP Raceing this im not hope for . I was hopeing LBP3. But ill buy this anyways since i like lbp series i guess get this as well.
There is no doubt what the 'inspiration' is for this game.A company's most successful (current) side-scrolling platformer released onto their system with a variety of the characters and locations from the game..also released with a motion-controller wheel-peripheral? Modnation racers will probably be much better as it didn't feel like it was directly making a game just to have a version of 'the competitions' racing game and had unique staples. Little Big Planet, however, doesn't have characters that are unique..you have a general sack-boy body build-up and then decorations on top..which means not only will it be difficult to tell between characters from a distance..but it won't be a different experience (visually OR in handling). Not to mention that the worlds wouldn't look nearly as unique as other kart-racing worlds as they would just appear as 'a general garden' or 'forest'.
I just hope Sony gets their act together and ditch the online passes by the time it's released. I got Modnation Racers used, but I bought a lot of DLC for it too. If I had to pay a fee to play online, I wouldn't have bought the game or any of the extra stuff.
I don't like this idea. Modnation Racers was already made (it was a bad game at that) I don't think ANOTHER racing game in the same "Play Create Share" genre would make much sense.
I thought Modnation was suppose to be that role...and I liked it a lot, but why just little sack people? Modnation already has that creative base started with characters made like Spiderman, Mario, Spyro, Crash, Master Chief....anything you can think of it has been done in Modnation already...So I don't know why they are making a little big kart racer.
A waste of time. Mario Kart works because it has instantly recognisable characters - who is gonna be in this? Errr sackboy and... sackboy in drag, sackboy in a hat, sack boy in... yawn. Do us all a favour and spend the money on making LBP3 even better ta :) As for "Move" support, how about releasing some proper games for it. I love Sports Champions but its definitely the Wii Tennis of the ps3, nothing else has come close. Heavy Rain didn't really do enough and I've not bothered with a thing since.
@MEDzZ3RO Not really the gameplay wasn't as fun as Mario Kart. I enjoyed the map editor but the racing part of the game was no fun. They had a great idea though so I hope this game does a better job with the racing.
Let's be honest here, why would people be interested in this if we already have Mario Kart, which has more colorful characters, and power ups every gamer knows (I mean come on, when you hear blue shell, you automatically panic). I say, leave LBP to it's community, they've proven far more creative than anything else. Just reinforce the tools they have access to.
@mjc0961 Modnation Racers had potential, it was great besides the loading times. If it had "Mario Kart" in the title it would have sold millions, that was the only real issue MNR had. My guess is Media Molecule and United Front Games collaborating to make what is essentially a spiritual successor to Modnation Racers. With Little Big Planet in title it'd boost sales immensely. It'd make sense too, both studios fall under Sonys bracket, Sackboy featured in MNR, both are heavily creation driven and both developers have announced they are working on a game (individually). It's possible.
i hope this game is similar to mario karts in mechanics and balancing im sony fan from a long time .... but as musch as i want to say that modnation racers is good .. but it actually not... the controlls are dull and the menus are cheap not to mention the loading time that killed the game the creation is great idea tho ....... only if the game was that good ihope sony fix what modnation lacked in this new lbp kart game ...
little big planet is 1 of the few games that would work with a move to kart racing. best idea ive heard in a while.
Fun i suppose but to be honest id like to see a full 3d (not 3d depth but i mean like 3d world not just side/top view) of little big planet could open up more creative opportunity heh.
