Little Big Planet 2 delayed until January 18

By Staff

Media Molecule confirms its PS3 platformer sequel has been pushed back until the first month of next year.

As part of the 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo, Sony announced a host of PlayStation Move-compatible titles that would be available by the end of the year. Included on that list was Media Molecule's Little Big Planet 2, the unexpected follow-up to the studio's hit PlayStation 3-exclusive platformer and user-generated content platform.

Since that time, Media Molecule has opened up the closed beta-testing window for the game. Despite that progress, though, the game won't be hitting its projected November release. In a statement on its official site, Media Molecule says it has "taken the hard decision to delay the worldwide release," pushing the release date back to January 18, 2011. The studio says it needs the extra time to make sure fans get "the best experience imaginable."

The statement adds: "We've agreed to allow ourselves a bit more time to deliver the experience that our great fans and community deserve." Confirmation of the delay comes after Sony updated its official Japanese site for Little Big Planet 2 to reflect a 2011 launch window for the anticipated platformer.

Well hoping I can send some holiday cheer your way if your wanting to try LBP 2 out. There is going to be a LBP 2 demo coming out on December 21st and no I'm not yanking your chain this information is on Playstation's site. Anyways I don't know about you guys, but I can't wait to feel like a small child as I sit and tentatively play this game for hours on end lol.

@ anthonycg I actually think that it's more strategy than hype. MM figures they'd have a lot better chance of getting GotY 2011 than they would 2010. And they can give gamers time to save up some money for it after spending it all on games like Reach, CoD:BO, GT5, Fable III (that's me!). Developers would not move a game back just for the hype. They've got too much riding on it and they wanna get paid.

You guys sound surprised so I'll let you in on a secret: It's hype. Every company from now on will do the same. Release dates will be pushed back for any game you'll ever want so get used to it.

The first Little Big Planet is the epitome of overrated games.

that kind of sucks but id rather wait instead of have a bad game because they rushed it.

i agree with scream dream, its the same reason why killzone 2 was pushed to 2009 (to not compete with resistance 2)

With GT5 coming 4th quarter, I have a feeling Sony pushed this to 1st quarter of next year for several reasons and none of them being more development. Sony usually has a big game in the first quarter (GOW 3 this year and Infamous last year). Not enough PS Move's sold. There are stacks Move/PS3 combo at stores.

This makes me laugh harder at all the idiots who pre-order stuff from GameCrook/Electronic Bastards.

Dang..... Disappointing news but at least the extra time will mean it's more finely polished. Hopefully the multiplayer element will be fully up to scratch on release too.

@ Darkaned No it's not. This is just hype to get people to notice the game. Devs have time constraints and they can't really keep extending the release dates. Kotor 2 is an example.

That's good news in my opinion because we have so many good games yet to play this year: New Fallout Vegas, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Dead Rising 2, Enslaved: JTTW, Medal of Honor, Vanquish, Star Wars: TFU2, CoD Black OPS, all this without counting the exclusive on the XBox 360 and some (very few) of the Wii. My wallet thanks to Sony.

Bah, there goes my CE preorder as I'm moving to another country in december. Although now I can't get the CE anymore I will admit that atleast the final product will be that much more superb in the long run because of this. No hard feelings.

No doubt it had something to do with that MOVE sht thats did this, why dont they make a playstation 32X, or a playstation cartridge, like sega did; its what killed them.

Glad to see they're more concerned about the quality of the final product than getting it out before Christmas to boost sales =]

I don`t get peoples reactions on this. It is not like they wanted a delay for fun, it is a delay for fine-tuning and making sure the game is superb. would you rather buy it before and get random glitches, framerate bugs or load errors? they miss out on a massive christmas sale themself. so they have a good reason to do this, obviously.

@yixingtpot No one's forcing you to buy it. Let people buy whatever they want to buy, geez.

lol MM knows people can just buy some more "costumes" add ons to tide them over. They've made so damn much off that stuff it's not funny... greedy bastards. I bet they've earned more off the add-ons than the actual game itself.

It's alright i have a lot of games like GT5 , AC:Brotherhood , MOH , New vegas to play until it comes out.
