WWE 13 developer Yuke's hopes to capitalize on "gaming world's target market" with sports license.
The Lingerie Football League is getting a video game, and Yuke's, the developer of scantily clad wrestling game Rumble Roses, is making it.
The Japanese company announced last week that it acquired the rights to the league, which itself premiered in 2009. The LFL uses American football rules modified for a 50-yard field, as well as lingerie-inspired uniforms. It currently has 12 teams with plans for expansion, according to the LFL website.
"We at Yuke's feel that there is incredible momentum building behind the LFL and that the sport is perfectly positioned to become the next big franchise in the gaming world," said Yuke's CEO Yukinori Taniguchi in an LFL news release. The release states the core global fan base of the league is nearly 60 percent men aged 18-34, which "perfectly aligns with the gaming world's target market."
Yuke's is known for developing the WWE series of games, as well as UFC Undisputed and Rumble Roses. No publisher has been announced for the game.
I'm guessing that there will be an auto-play function that allows users to.... do other things while watching the game.
There was an article I liked and was trying to followup on regarding portrayal of females in games, and I restate that the issue is human discrimination as a whole. Sexism is just one form of discrimination and by only addressing it discrimination as a whole is euphamized and again only certain classes or groups are considered important enough for comment.
However within a week of reading that, I have to see this. A poor idea for so many reasons, besides the inability to get a return on profits causing profits be hedged by the big name titles, only a very small demographic objectifies women to the extent that a game is required.
I always have to wonder how shallow I was capable of being as a 12 year old boy and what would happen it is was reinforced? Being a Japanese company this may be more accepted and do better in a non-American culture and may have never been intended to make money in the US, but why the American League rules and 50 yard field?
And how about a version with men playing in thongs only? You know, to attract female gamers.
I just find the idea of this game so pathetically funny.
Director-"Na, no ones going to play a Football game when there are already better ones out there. I got it! Let's make the athletes female, busty, and near nude, then sell the game to 8-year olds!"
How have I not heard of this sport/shameless justification for exposed lady-flesh? I wonder if the game will include underwear grabbing fouls.
After getting tired of madden and NCAA Football coming out year after year with only minor improvements between each year I cant wait to see something different. Though I am not expecting anything revolutionary, just a so-so football game featuring pixellated eye candy. This game will be for the football genre what DOA Extreme Beach Volleyball did for volleyball.
OMG!! I have never even heard of this league. I will have to check some of this out on YouTube. How do these girls not get injured if they are being physically tackles on turf with only bra, panties, a few pads and a helmet? lol!! I can't see the game being all that great. No one has even tried making a WNBA basketball game, maybe because they aren't playing in lingerie. Hehehe. The graphics and physics will have to be spot on for anyone to even bat an eye toward this game.
@blackace you don't need a lot of pads to play football, check out Rugby League.
i'm sure this game will titillate the 12yo
Yea, because everyone knows people watch LFL for the "sports" and not the fact that it's women in lingerie.
This game is going to tank so badly, no one wants to "play" LFL, they want to reach it, the real thing, real women, not pixels on a screen.
If people want to "play" a football game they want real NFL teams, that's what killed of 2k's excellent football games when EA got the monopoly on the NFL it killed off any and all competition.
It seems to me like those who want a football game would rather buy a game from established football franchises. Those who want to see women in lingerie have plenty of options too.
The only way I can see this game work is if they really go all out over the top with it, and not just the boobphysics.
Licensed games, by themselves, are bad enough, but when they're based on something this asinine, then you know they're really desperate. You know what? Take the title, change the word "Lingerie" to "Mutant", swap the words "Football" and "League", and then you might have something good there. Just a thought.
I'm assuming the controls will be optimised for one-handed playing?
The worst part about this is the phrase "gaming world's target market" pretty much saying all gamers are horny virgins. Sigh...
Funny that I haven't heard of this league before now.......
This will be a big flop, THQ should save themselves and not publish this.....
Unless they are counting on all the fans of nutshots to buy this......
Haha, nice idea people. One problem, no one really watches it for the football...Mostly hot ladies playing in underwear, any young man's dream, right? As much as I would like to try this game, something tells me that its going to be boring as hell. This is for those weird guys who only played the lingerie matches in WWE...Pass
Yeah, I really want to play a game with a bunch of bitchy bitches who can't play football, let alone any other sport. All they know how to do is try and look pretty and golddig and catfight amongst eachother, and be evil. If they open their mouths, mute the T.V. or cover your ears. Man they are fu$#ing retarted.
@tightwad34 Retarted. That is all.
Oh yeah, if us men stop kissing their butts and putting them on a pedestal, they may come back to earth, well a little at least.
So basically it's NFL Blitz meets Rumble Roses.
Unless I was a 15 year old kid dealing with puberty, I'd rather play Black College Football Xperience feat. Doug Williams.
If they make it kinda fast paced and over-the-top, sort of like NFL Blitz , I can see it having some success. If they go the technical realistic route like Madden or something, I think it would fail miserably.
@RiP_ili Agreed. NFL Blitz was not a good example of the NFL but it was a really really fun game for the reasons you stated.
Waiting for the announcement that Tomonobu Itagaki has been hired as creative director, as if the stars have all aligned in a new golden immaculate age of boob physics extraordinaire, only the highest resolution cloth textures the human eye can see, and the pinnacle of every fetish known or unknown to man. All featured in one disc; a Itagaki Yuke coproduction Lingerie Football League.
