Hope they can pull of the seriousness of it fairly well, it's got less humor as a franchise than Harry Potter. But we'll see...
Inserts found with new Lego Lord of the Rings toy line confirm Warner Bros. working on title based on J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy universe.
The next franchise to get spun into a Lego game will be J.R.R. Tolkien's epic fantasy tome Lord of the Rings, according to a new report at MCV. The site reports that packaging materials found with the new Lego line of Lord of the Rings toys confirms the project.
On top of MCV's report, United Kingdom retailer Shop To posted (and then removed) a listing for Lego Lord of the Rings. A Google cache version of the product page is available, which reveals placeholder box art and an October 2012 release date.
The game is to be developed by the Warner Bros.-owned Traveller's Tales, which picked up the Lego license in 2004. The company has adapted a range of popular franchises into Lego games, including Star Wars, Batman, Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter, and Indiana Jones.
As of press time, neither Traveller's Tales nor Warner Bros. had responded to GameSpot's requests for comment.
Lego Lord of the Rings will not be the only new Lord of the Rings game in 2012. In October 2011, it was revealed that Warner Bros. was also at work on a new Hobbit title, which is to ship in advance of December's theatrical release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
"Where is the horse and the rider?" Somewhere under the sofa cushions, o king. No doubt doing battle with the fearsome Lost DVD Remote.
I knew there was going to be a Lord of the Rings version sooner or later. I was right about Lego Harry Potter 4-5 years ago after playing Lego Star Wars back in 2006
I'm into it, been a LEGO game fan since the very first LEGO Star Wars on GameCube. Nothing better than satirical retellings of our favorite stories.
"Finally is happening to me, right in front of my face, and I just cannot hide it..." It's about time. This game will be awesome. Of course if I had my pick of a Peter Jackson lego game, it would have been Braindead/Dead Alive or Meet the Feebles, LOL.
Surprised nobody made a "You shall not pass" reference. Very well. I'll do it.
Game , YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!!....with a good Metacritic score.
I'll see myself out. That was terrible.
Sigh... Getting pretty bored of all these Lego games now. No matter how many popular franchises they can convert into blocks, the gameplay will never change very much...
Maybe Lego should collaborate with Mojang to bring more innovations to Minecraft?
Your wish is granted. They have already partnered on the building side of the spectrum.
When did the LOTR legos come out? I remember the Harry Potter legos and always wondered why there were no LOTR.
@TruthTellers They haven't hit store shelves yet. They are supposed to come out sometime this summer. Probably at the same time the Marvel half of the LEGO Superheroes line comes out.
@mwmike11 The Marvel sets have been out for at least a month now. The LOTR sets are available online as well as in certain Toys R Us stores already.
@ChameleonX It probably will, only it will cover four/five movies, throwing The Hobbit in with them.
I don't get the Lego games. It seems to be just hitting something, and then running around in a circle to collect the pips or whatever they're called - ad nauseum.
It's nice to see LEGO go after other properties. I got tired pretty quickly with the Indy and Star Wars LEGO games. Enjoyed the Potter and Pirates games the most. Looking forward to some LOTR LEGO.
I love LOTR and I have a soft spot for the LEGO games from Traveller's Tales since my sons got me involved in playing co-op with them, so I'm looking forward to this. Simple, clean fun.
I'm really curious how those huge battles like Helm's Deep will pan out. I'm looking forward to finding out. Oh, and a Lego Balrog should be pretty sweet.
Traveller's Tales needs to do this right and not make their games so glitchy. Also, add the freakin' CO-OP back in like you did in Star Wars Complete Saga!!!
i'll keep a eye on this ive played lego star wars before and it was pretty fun so who knows maybe i'll get this
