League of Legends Mac client enters beta

After cancelling Mac support in 2011, Riot Games releases new open beta client.

Riot Games today announced that the League of Legends Mac client is now in open beta and available to download. "Yes, we're sure this time" the company said, referencing the cancellation of a previous Mac client in 2011.

"Going native on Mac has been a big goal for us, and we’re really excited to offer the same experience across both platforms," the company said in a statement." The Mac client does everything that the PC client does, meaning you’ll get all future features, bug fixes and new content on the same schedule as PC players, but on your native OS."

The League of Legends Mac client was made available late last month in the game's Public Beta Environment. This is a separate build of the game that allows players to test upcoming versions of the game before they reach the main servers.

According to Riot Games, League of Legends has 12 million daily active players and 32 million monthly active players. The game boasts 70 million registered users, according to the developer.

Riot Games just this week announced it had opened an Australian office. Established in 2006, Riot Games was started by developers from Blizzard Entertainment and the mod community that made DOTA.

Seriously this is kinda thing that piss me off, Macintosh gets a client for League of Legends, but yet us Linux users have to run from a fake Windows client just to try and play not to mention it has so many bugs compared to real PC play. Why does League admins keeping ignoring the community of LInux? Linux is fairly decent OS and runs so nice compared to Macintosh and Windows. Hell your know Macintosh runs its OS off a Linux kernal, WOW! But yet we always get left behind for stuff, prob half the guys running your programming or bug fixing for League prob Linux supporters, so please quit ignoring the Linux community give us a real client to.

still can't run the LoL mac client on my computer, my computer is Mac OSX 10.5.8, do i need a later version in order to run it? heeelp

Seems like a waste unless the mac staff is working for free, the PC version still has issues. Who uses a mac to play video games?

@megakick I do. More than you seem to think does. Just because all the games that are avaliable for Windows aren't avaliable for OS X doesn't mean there are some good games.

@quebec946 Doesn't sound like a very nuanced conclusion. I remember people were saying the same thing about Microsoft when it was going well for them in the nineteen nineties.

@00001919 @JusticeCovert @PandaKF Only if he works for Microsoft. I switched years ago because I got tired of running maintenance all the time, not that I couldn't but defragment this, force memory to release "saved-in-case-you-use-this-again-but-really-I-won't-I'll-just-use-more-ram-or-swapfile-and-slowdown" that, got tiresome.
