League of Legends hits 32 million registered players

PC gaming is different to console gaming. If gamers like a game on PC we stick to it like glue, we dont just buy the next greatest thing out. Thats why theres STILL more 1.6 counter strike players world wide playing every day on Avg than CS Source, the newer version.Valve is hoping to bring 1.6 CS gamers and source players together with CS:GO. but theres millions of people out there that cant handle change and they just stick to what they know an dwhat they opercieve as the better product for whatever reason.. EA ditched Madden, not because of Piracy on PC, but because its business model of bringing one out each year doesnt work on PC. Bring one out every 5 years and youll make some money on that priduct. So yeah, just because a better production value of game is coming out from Valve doesnt meen tons of people will ditch League of Legends to play it more. Theyll play whatever they percieve to be the better prioduct.

I really didn`t like the game that much.But it seems all my classmates play it -_-

you are in for a big surprise if you think ppl will move from LOL to something else just because it has the name dota or blizzard whatever..

@Vambran Dipping your nose into a game rarely gives you a very good view into the entire package. Also, if you really think hard, how likely is it that LoL will not be profitable for Riot just because that overhyped game is coming out? The people that are buying skin in LoL are usually the passionate players that won't leave just like that.

I tried it out. Seems okay. Kinda has a cheap interface though. And Dota 2 / Bliz Dota will prob kill this game off with higher production values.

It sounds like a good game and they're obviously doing something right with all these positive results. However, I don't think it's something I can get into. Last time I tried it, everyone started yelling at me...

@Jestersmiles To be fair Fizz and Talon were both assassins. The only reason Fizz can be tanky is because he can get AP caster items (Rod of Ages, Rylai's, Zhonya's, Abyssal Sceptre etc. for tankiness) but that's 2 recent assassins and graves was a carry. They recently nerfed his tank like passive as well. LoL is still great, they have the odd character issues like Irelia and Shaco (boxes shouldn't be able to be guaranteed kills on an AP shaco) but overall a pretty well balanced game and they listen to the community a lot. There is some need for more varied new characters but there is still a wealth of variety in league of legends. I doubt I'll find anyone like Shaco, Heimerdringer, Teemo (cutesy), Orianna etc. in other Moba's. There's tons of variety in LoL.

I am pretty sure they are counting smurfs account and inactive account, it will still be a big number , but not 32 million. Even though I liked the like the game it just getting stale especially with it heroes. The last batch of heroes all been tanky dps , plus they just don't feel original anymore. All they do is copy paste other heroes moves and abilities and make a "new" one, so at the end all you get is wukong who plays like Xin that just happen to have a move just like Garen. -_- That why I moved on to Dota 2, I was lucky enough to get a invite to beta and right now it awesome, can't wait for final release. LoL was great now it just meh, BTW Guild wars had the F2P model down way before Riot was even company, how about giving some credit where it do.

It's a superb title. What really sets it apart from other games is it's art direction and unique playing styles. Every champion genuinely feels unique both from a game-play perspective and an artistic standpoint. Furthermore, each champion's plethora of equipment, skill tree, and rune options allow further champion fine-tuning. You can play the game the way YOU want to play it. There's also a plethora of champion skin mods and the game is very user-friendly to edit. While other players won't see your unlicensed skins, it's still a rewarding feeling to insert your own voice files, graphics, character portraits, and play as, say, Hatsune Miku. The best part though? It is entirely free. Paying money doesn't even necessarily give you an advantage over people - all it does is give you more skins and develop your profile level quicker, but since there's an auto-match making system, you'll always be paired with fairly similar leveled players anyways! It's an awesome game. It's free, so you can't go wrong.

I heard some of my class mates talk about this game. Never actually played it myself though. Still, great numbers.

Never played it but, 1,3m at anytime is a lot, its the number of players playing cod or halo in their release dates.

@Soothsayer42 I play Skyrim and LoL, they're so different I don't see why one would put the other out (unless your really time constricted). Overall one is a multiplayer and team based death-match RPG while the other is a free roaming single player sandbox RPG. One can be played with friends, strangers and the likes and one can be played by yourself. Anyway as stated I play LoL, I do it a lot as I think it's a fantastic game. They finally gave orianna her mana back (could do with a bit more range though) but if they fix vladimir to coincide with the legendary skin I'll pretty much be happy about the whole game. Except Irelia, hate that b*tch.

F2P most be generating more revenue then subs most MMO today are F2P. WOW is the worst, I got sick of paying 39.99 for a xpac almost every year and a sub. Forget that noise.

Really, this is the same situation that Runescape had when they said they had 125 million accounts. Ya, that's impressive hardly any of them actually play.

@johnrayjr I was wondering as well. Curious to see the tipping point when a F2P starts generating more income than a monthly fee model. 4.2 mil Daily players, with 1.3 mil concurrent is impressive.

@Xeogua You need a mouse for this type of game, no question. You wouldn't be able to keep up with the other players.

@BenderUnit22 Yeah, i started playing recently and got one hero with points and then just started to use the free heroes from the weekly rotation...until Skyrim came out. Sorry LoL :P.

I never could get into it. Not that it's bad, it's a good game, I would probably have though different if I had a mouse for my lap top. Whenever I do get one, I guarantee that I'm going to give it another go.

Has Gamespot ever reported on how much money this brings in compared to WoW? Just curious. I don't really play MMOs so I'm just a spectator.

League of Legends is the pedestal for which all free to play games should be modeled after. Anyone who pays money for a particular aspect of the game has no advantage in any way from any other player. This is because anything that actually has bearing on gameplay is absolutely free. Cosmetic items cost some money, that is it. I respect this business model, and have spent money myself on some cosmetic skins that are actually very well done. So kudos to Riot and their success in the F2P market. I hope others follow their business model.

@nurnberg I probably played around 1000 matches of League of Legends and haven't paid a dime. I feel so ripped off.

I don't care if they nickel and dime me to death. I seriously don't, and I'll love every minute of it. This game is my guilty pleasure. :D
