Trinity coming to the sci-fi massively multiplayer online game in December, will add major graphical overhaul.
The fifth expansion pack for CCP's sci-fi massively multiplayer online role-playing game EVE Online has been dated for December 5. Trinity will add a new graphics engine, and all ships, stations, and stargates have been reconstructed using new lighting models and surfaces to make them appear more detailed and realistic.
EVE Online: Trinity will also add new missions, items, and ships to the gameworld.
CCP has also announced that the game, which was launched in 2003, has now exceeded 200,000 subscribers. EVE Online gives players control of a spaceship, and they can trade, mine, and battle within its vast online universe.
In November 2006 CCP merged with pen-and-paper role-playing game company White Wolf, and announced that the duo would be teaming up to create a pen-and-paper-style RPG based on the EVE world.
Iathan94, that's probably what I'm liking most about this game (doing the trial myself, having a blast). I've spent the past couple hours doing missions and then other stuff offline, and my character is currently training up an 11 hour skill. I definitely prefer it to the sit there and grind grind grind method of most MMOs. After 115 days /played of WoW, it's a refreshing way of doing character progression.
Thats your problem, it was the trial. i used to play it but atm i cant pay for the subscription. but when i started out i had to mine for my money, i was ok with that, even though i had the wrong mining setup. No you dont get experience from fighting or doing events but some people dont have the time to sit online 24/7 to do that. the skill system i believe is perhaps the best ive seen...ITS DIFFERENT!! the casual player could start a skill, do a few other things while online then log off. the next day he has finished the skill. the hardcore player could start the skill and do more impressive things, like level 5 missions or organise a gang raid or such no the majority of the time the game is not fast paced. but imagine you were apart of a corp who was in a heavy war with another corp. having to be on at key times and making sure you have the most effective weaponry and auxillary equipment. keeping you on the edge. everyone that has played eve, even for the 14-day trial will agree with you that it starts slow and impossible to do all you want to in the 14 days. do your self a favor, and ill say this to everyone who said "i played the 14 day trail and i think its crap", buy a months subscription...ATLEAST and play it for that month, then come back and make a judgement. because it is just stupid to make a judgement from 14 days play
I downloaded the free trial and 96% of the time i was mining. Its not near as fast paced or excitiing as WoW you dont train you skils from actual combat you just wait. Its no a game i would recommend.
The best thing about Eve is The real time advancement of skills, I can start training 1 skill an be done training in 12 hours. But i don't have to be online all those 12 hours ... I can start training, turn of my Computer, go to sleep, wake up the next day, and start some other skill training, I have been doing ONLY that for 3 months. (Waiting for the Trinity Update )
Wow, lots of harsh comments from people who have no idea what they are talking about. EVE is not about boring mission running, or mining minerals or any of that **** Eve is PVP, if you don't like to PVP don't waste your time. There is no other game on the market where the players can actually attack another player group, take over their space, and control large amounts of the game world. And yes only 200k subscribers. But they are all on one server, the server has pushed over 35k concurrent users, and good (read: lag-free) battles can happen upto about 250 vs. 250, anything beyond that likes to lag like crazy. The game really shines for small group PVP. Roaming gangs getting into 10-30 man battles are a blast! EVE is the only game besides tournament counter-strike that has gotten my adrenaline pumping, and thats why I play.
EVE is having connection problems, that started with the last patch, its like the BORG, more and more people just dropping off ever day, I will wait till this new patch and if it does not fix it, i will cancel and ask for a refund. look at the forums for these post's
Yes, I play Eve Online. It's a sandbox not a theme park. Whatever happens, it's because the players themselves and some developers still play, (and thank god, otherwise how would they know what needs balancing and changing and stuff - one or two messed up and created a blueprint of an item that wasn't very good in the first place and in New Eden, there is no Win button, uber setup), this upcoming patch, apart from updating the four year old graphics engine will create more tactical options especially in the form of "Scripts" e.g for a turret you can insert a "script" that boosts damage but penalizes range, or of course vice versa. I don't need to flame anyone about their thoughts on Eve Online, because well, I've tried other online games, and they feel more like team games that could just as well have been done off line, in a party console format style. Sorry D12malu - there isn't going to be EVE 2. Don't know what you mean, just realize that all "patches/upgrades" are free and everyone plays in the same universe under the same global rules (until they change them, but still the rules affect everyone). Try it out for 14 days but realize that it's not the full scope. Join a corporation (this should be easier Wednesday the 6th, with corporation advertisements) that do similar things to what you want to try out, or just join a corp and see what happens. Keep an open mind, because your character is not limited to a cookie cutter role. It can be adapted (it takes longer) to suit your needs over the course of a month, plus you don't lose previous abilities. The skills train in real time, no you don't need to be logged in for the countdown to run down. New characters start out with 800K skill points. Focus on one area (combat, industrial, mining, science) when selecting your character and you'll be on a better footing than most. Talk to people as well, read the FAQ guides around the internet, talk to people in game - it's not about what you know it (like life) is about who you know. Never truer than in Eve, as a friend can help you out on your way to becoming able to join a large alliance or whatever route you go down. Of course they're not really accountable, anymore than Star Wars Galaxies team are accountable to players. The difference is that CCP listened and acted, SWG lost players because the changes they wanted to make went against the player base. In Eve, the best thing to do is to read the patch notes, test out what works and what doesn't work and keep going. In other words, Adapt to Survive. Anyone relying on Wikipedia for their informational facts deserve what they end up believing even if it's only half the story. I believe (and I can't really support it with facts, just observations from in-game) that the action hurt the alliance and for a while created the biggest online warfare ever seen, because of the perceived injustice of it all. What other game can employ a full time Economist to analyze the data that market players (and succeeding on the market is a whole lot harder than combat pvp) can use to forecast their next three months inventory? Sure there's only 200K subscriptions, however when you see there's 45K people online, there really are 45K people in the same universe either wanting to kill you, hate you, sell you something, cheat you or just ignore you (I'm not sure which is worse, apathy or hate?) Also when you lose a ship or your pod gets blown up, it really does hurt a lot. Both in time (fitting ships) and wallet (buying ships and fittings). No other online game offers the fear factor that one mistake may bring your combat readiness out of factor for a couple of days or even weeks. This is no arcade game. Whiners stay away, because there is no Cheese in New Eden. Thank you.

On www.wikipedia.org you can see that EVE has had problems with CCP actually influencing the outcomes of tournaments and helping out certain clans/guilds/whatever you call them. They have never truly been held accountable. On top of that, the game really isn't that great.

At first glance, the title seems to suggest that the expansion is "dated", meaning it's graphics are not up to par with today's standards. Since the expansion is mostly promoted for its graphical update, the title of this article can be a bit misleading imho. But yeah, going to check it out once it gets released.

I really like EVE. It's not overly addicting but when I play I always watch a movie on something else at the same time, because sometimes the gameplay can get dull, but it's that ambience that draws me towards EVE rather than the constant attention required in most MMOs. Also spaceships are less done than the typical fantasy story of the stereotypical MMO (Everquest, WoW, Final Fantasy XI...the list could go on but I don't want to be still here typing by the time the announcement for the PS6 is made). But at heart I've played EVE becuase of the gap I've always felt by not having an Escape Velocity MMO. When Override and Nova were released I always had hoped for a multiplayer option (even servers would work!), but never got it. Of course this game boasts everything Nova had none of, but that pen-and-paper text-based storylines just had a great appeal.
The best part about EVE is the idea that you can train up your skills, and do your selling while your not online which is a positive boon to people with little time to play but want to keep up with the folks who play 24/7. I wish GS would re-review it too. Can't wait for the update.
EVE: A Universe full of wonder and mystery. Where those that want to make it big can... and those that want it all work hard for. This is a very immersing game. When you 'jump' in, you are jumping into another Universe. It is not considered a game anymore, but a separate project, a Galaxy World-Tour, an Investment... you are who you are. You are your choices. To those that want this game to be 'mainstream' : Look, it's nice to have over 9 million people playing a particular game. But are you playing with all those people at once? Can you change the outlook of the game by taking over territories that affect everyone? Can you make history by being a great Commander, Pirate, or Business Person AND have the game, players, and even developers acknowledge that? It's difficult and yes, new players may feel overwhelmed. However, this is where it makes the challenges worth it. Not only that, it'll be pretty difficult for someone to bother you yelling out 'N00B' without a War Declaration on Him/Her. Join Us. Now, When will Game spot make an updated review?
EVE was really cool, but you need a lot of time on your hands to play it. To be good on WoW you need loads of time aswell, which I just don't have.
@ bjmage16: No. EVE is meant to be complex. It's not for the faint of heart or for the stupid. If you can't handle it, go back to WoW, it's that simple. EVE is a complex game, it's meant to be extremely multifaceted and unforgiving.
This game does not treat new people well. That's why there's only 200,000 subscribers. Make the game more accessible, and the number of subscribers will increase.
BTW, please note that WOW's 9 mln community is broken into lots of small *chunks*, so it's not like 9 mln people playing together. In fact, you have to choose your server very carefully if you want to play with your friends, otherwise you will pay for your character's transfer Meanwhile, in my eyes EVE online is a technological marvel that allows to all players at once to play in one virtual space. Actually, I am quite tempted to give it a try once more

Played the EVE 14-day trail a while back and really like the game. Wasn't impressed with some of the graphics at that time. From what I have seen, they are really making some positive graphical improvements. Now with the rumored "dumbing down" of Star Trek Online, I may have to actually sign up for EVE instead.
Been playing for about 1 year and few months have 1 main account and had 2 alts, one of which i sold the other i am currently using. Awesome game and its only gonna get better. BTW someone mentioned 30,000 people on its actually like 20,000-35,000 depending when you are on but it was only earlier this year or so when they broke the 30,000 people on at once thing. Its not the amout of players an MMO has its the personality and sense of community that makes it in my opinion and sure wow can have its 9 million users but in eve you really get a sense of community and team work. Cant wait for expansion.
200 000 ??? that must be the chinese people playing then. On main Tranquility server there's an averager of 30k people nowadays. But this is all on the same server, not split up. Trinity coming next week :) Go ccp !
Mogglewump: Realy? I played the matrix online a year ago, i don't know what the numbers where when i played.. it was just under the limit for me, though i don't play WOW so i wouldn't know what 9 million people feels like.

It was launched in 2003? Then that's one of the oldest MMO on the market. And it means, it should have infinitive amount of content and very good balance. I will check it out on 5th December :) I just hope they did some updates to that horrible interface... Please don't forget that you can try for free EVE online for 14 days! I will go for this option to test Trinity :P

200,000 actually makes it a very successful MMOG. WOW and RuneScape's figures distort the perception of the average player base.
