Spike TV hints at upcoming PS3 exclusive to be revealed live during annual VGA ceremony on December 10; teaser site now live.
Last month, Spike TV executive producer Geoff Keighley revealed that this year's Video Game Awards (VGAs) would play host to a number of big game announcements, from Metal Gear Solid: Rising to Microsoft's next instalment of Alan Wake.
It now appears that Keighley wasn't done teasing all the 2011 VGA news. Last week, the host of this year's awards offered up yet another tasty morsel via Twitter, declaring, "Yes, at VGAs we will be revealing a PS3 exclusive you won't believe. We'll be able to share more soon."
Since then, Keighley has followed up with another two Twitter posts about the new title: the first promising to stoke speculation, and the second linking to a teaser site for the new game (with "Last of Us" apparently the name of the game or the teaser campaign) and reconfirming that the game would be revealed live during this year's VGAs.
The teaser site currently features two clips. The first shows real-life news footage of civil unrest and rioting, with a voice-over hinting at a US-centric point of view. The second clip, shorter than the first, simply shows footage of an insect in its natural habitat and does not feature any voice-over.
This year's VGAs will feature announcements surrounding Metal Gear Solid: Rising, Alan Wake, and BioWare, with the EA label slated to show off a new game from a new studio at the event. Last year, the awards featured reveals of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Prototype 2, Mass Effect 3, Insane, and SSX.
The 2011 VGAs will take place on December 10 and will be broadcast live on Spike TV and MTV2, beginning at 8 p.m. Eastern, 5 p.m. Pacific.
oh my.... this comes from a real thing !!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuKjBIBBAL8
Well wonder what the hell this is all about. Could be a number of things. Could be a Book of Eli type thing, could be zombie apocalypse, could be (a better) Homefront-esque, War of the Worlds...and then don't know what genre play style wise it'll fall in, either: FPS, 3rd person shooter or adventure, RPG? That ant video really throws things for a loop LOL Kinda hope it's not zombies cause zombies seems to always be the go to "change of pace" game setting, but if it's zombies I vote for a 28 Days Later or Walking Dead type of deal. Whatever it is make it good.

The date at the teaser site has tomorrow's date and a greyed out unclickable video link. another teaser tomorrow, I presume.
@mrboone01 true!! i never really got the point of them anyway don't you get bored of doing the same sh#t over and over like in the 70's gaming era!!!, though i did enjoy Capcoms resident evil on the PS3. But even that gets a little tedious, interestingly the visuals and co op mode make it enjoyable however.
So when it says 'an insect in it's natural habitat' it actually means a solitary ant crawling to a stand-still and then dying.. come on GameSpot. From the trailers its got me excited, it doesn't look anything zombie related.. more like a epidemic that threatens all life. If it's done well I'll be one very happy customer, a solid story and decent gameplay and I'm sold :) Anyone seen the movie The Road? I'm sensing that type of game. i.e. fallout - expect minus all the aliens and weirdo creatures.
Title: "Last of Us teases PS3 exclusive" Related Game: "Alan Wake" !!! Related Companies: "Microsoft Game Studios" !!!!!! @Gamespot: U Suck little Xbox fanboy!
makes me feel gladder i got a ps3 but i won't get giddy about anything till i know what we're looking at. if it's another fps or zombie hacker this will have all been wasted on me. kudos to anyone who'd enjoy the announcement though. To each their own...
*yawn* Post-apocolyptic and "zombie" games have had their run in the limelight. Let's move on and stop trying to recycle over-used game themes into the ground.
I bet it's gonna be about some alien parasite invasion wiping out the human race and all species on earth.
@EasyComeEasyGo first of all, it was already Titled The Last Of Us, not God of war 4 lol... yeah Santa Monica is now developing a new title but this article is all about 'The Last Of Us'...
Looks very interesting. I thought it would have something to do with civil unrest from the first video, but after the footage of an ant I've got no idea what to think.
This game looks to be what Resident Evil Raccon City should have been. Slowed down! Resident 1,2, and outbreak esque game with a good inovative multiplayer and game engine. Hope for the best
Ooo... Creepy. I wonder if (based on the zombie ant) they're gonna try and make a zombie game from a new angle (something more plausible maybe?). I suppose some sort of fungal infection could be neat (airborne infection and so on).
Yes, because truly these are the end of days, not like all the other hundreds of times throughout history when the apocalypse has been just around the corner..
everyone look up zombie ants. at the end of the second teaser there is something coming out for the ants head.
You know, Kojima never did mention what exactly "MGS5" would be, but that he was working on it. I also heard he has plans to kill off Snake. That might be the "last of us" bit. Or maybe I need to get a little less freaking addicted to MGS.
@Bolduk like I said in my first comment, the ant video isn't related to any game, but it's just a huge hint to what the game may be about. It's a "zombie ant", therefore, zombies. Dead Nation is very much about zombies. I love Dead Nation, and would like for there to be a 2 with the same title, but if that were to be the announcement I'd be slightly disappointed. This is titled "The Last of Us", so I hope it is different but I'd also love for it to be related, maybe be a TPS, on disc, a full-fledged triple A version of Dead Nation would be nice IMO.
Cant go wrong with a zombie game. PS3 is yet to have a GOOD one (Dead Space is more space aliens) but I have played both Dead Rising & Resident Evil, I thought both were pretty bad. I am yet to play Dead Island though because I dont really care for the tropical island theme.
@TheBlackSpeed Have you seen the extended clip about the fungus that controls and kills ants? It's hinting at just another zombie game. It's more like "Attack of the Body Snatchers". All I can take from the two trailers and the title is: You are going to be the last one, who succumbs to a virus that behaves like that fungus (or maybe a parasite not a virus). It's going to be just like "The Road". Fighting for survival, seeking out a cure in a world, where everybody already is possessed by that parasite. And you lose control of your character from time to time, just like in Limbo with those snail things that fall on your head.
The World Ends With You 2! Just kidding, but I can not WAIT to see what it is. Hope it's NOT Dead Nation 2, but something original, disc-related, and extremely innovative. PS3 exclusives deserve it. And I want to see it!
Also, as seen in the posted video, the background image of yellow bulbs is a particular strant of this cordyceps fungi
Yeah here's the youtube clip that ant video has been slipped from - really hoping this is something new and interesting and not just another zombie/mind-controlling-infection game http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuKjBIBBAL8
@mad_krips Yeah but what about the new vid they uploaded, the one about an insect? Kind of the confirmation it's not tied to Dead Nation in any way.
