Creative director Fumito Ueda tells fans to "keep an eye out" for an official announcement from Sony on long-awaited action adventure game.
The Last Guardian creative director Fumito Ueda has teased that news may be on the way concerning the long-awaited action adventure game. Writing on his website, the designer told fans to "keep an eye out" for new information, though he noted the timing is ultimately up to Sony.
"I should also mention that details regarding The Last Guardian's release is solely decided by Sony Computer Entertainment, not myself. Please keep an eye out for their official announcement," he said.
Sony is holding a New York City media event next week where the company is widely expected to announce the PlayStation 4. GameSpot will be in attendance, and the event will be live-streamed.
Ueda reiterated that he left Sony some time ago to pursue other "creative passions," noting he continues to work on The Last Guardian as its creative director in a freelance capacity.
"While it's been a long time coming, The Last Guardian remains under my creative supervision and is still in development by an incredibly talented team," he said.
Formally announced at the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo, The Last Guardian tells a boy-and-his-dog tale, where the dog is a giant and feathered, yet seemingly amiable, beast. Developer Team Ico has not been forthcoming with specific plot details, but gameplay will involve the boy working with his companion to navigate a variety of environmental puzzles.
The Last Guardian has made "slow progress" for years. Sony senior vice president of product development Scott Rohde said in June that the game will ship "when it is absolutely ready." He also said Sony has no deadline whatsoever for the game.

This game will be a PSV launch release in 2019. By which time the replicants will have been let loose in Los Angeles and we'll all be plugged into the Matrix. Or something.
@Tangsta03 That would be a really bad idea. It would piss off a lot of people, because it's similar to the idea how Twilight Princess turned out. That takes some time to port things over, and not to mention, it's not a very logical decision to make. The game was naturally made on the PS3 engine, so naturally, it should be released on the right platform.

Make no mistake, it will be released on the PS3. The install base will be much much higher. The problem with the game's development isn't the hardware, it's the level design. But Fumito Ueda is extremely talented so I'm confident he'll get it right. They usually don't have deadlines for there games so it'll be done when it's done.
This will end up being a fail. Anything other game that gets delayed this badly usually does.
It's funny how this was one of my most anticipated releases and biggest reasons for getting a PS3. If this comes out on PS4 I will rage hard.
It would make sense, if this title jumped to PS4. Too bad GTA5 is being released on PS3 and same with the new GOW. These two games will be my last that I play on my old console :)
4 Like I love how Sony has this procedure with a lot of games they publish, giving the development team no deadline basically says they're not releasing the game with the aim to make great sales. They know its going to be a beautiful and unique game that will both show off the skills of their development team and show the power of the PS3.
If it actually releases it might be another beauty of a game like SOTC, but I get the feeling it's nothing groundbreaking or nothing that really utilizes the PS3's power well.
1 Like No deadlines = fans have to wait for who knows how long, but ultimately get a better game.
It comes with the territory to have people complain about it taking too long or losing interest, but in the end it's going to be a much better game than if they forced it to come out 2 years ago because of some deadline.
I love game development without strict deadline. Deadline limits many great things that could be in games. I hope this game has clear plot unlike Shadow of Colossus.
@jark888 Tell that to the hordes of "angry" fans waiting for FF XIII verses. They'll tell you differently as to how they feel when it comes to "game developments without any strict deadlines". You're find that you're on a losing argument on that one.
@Sporks_Calamity There're always two sides of the coins. I'm talking about a different case though. Games could miss some final touch or refinement with strict deadline. However, I can understand why people are pissed from not knowing the deadline of a sequel.

reminds me of diablo 3 and gran turismo... so many years in production people just loose interest. Now this game may come out near the ps4 or! they postpone it and make it on the ps4 lmaoo
im getting bored waiting for this, i hope its not gonna be another gran turismo 5 year pile of s#te!! Hopefully from background games already produced (colossus) which were beautifully different it wont let me down. I dont care what platform its on just release it or tell us which !!!
1 Like This game still interests me. Shadow of the Colossus is another game by Team Ico and is good so I know what they are capable of.
After seeing the trailer, I felt similar to when I first saw How to Train Your Dragon. I just want to hug it and pet it.

Damn, I really need to get to started on Shadow of the Colossus for my ps2. I want this game so bad.
It's gotta be a PS4 title. If it's not they need to port it to PS4 as well. Awesome of Sony for not just canceling it.

I never played ICO or Shadow of the Colosus but im getting this one....assuming it doesn't fail.
2 Like Wow, I had completely forgotten about this game... Anyway, this game will either be a masterpiece or just an "O.K" game. Kinda like GT 5, if you get my meaning.

@RustedTruck650 @excitedgamerpoo That's unlikely considering the hype that the director is building up right now. Once we do get a release date though (which I doubt will be very soon), I think we can just mark the game down for another year's delay. haha
That's kind of vague. I don't know if he means we should "stay tuned" for an "eventual" update, like we've been doing for years, or if he means that an announcement is actually coming any day now, so "keep an eye out."
It must been at least one year or more since the last time I heard news of this game
