Independent UK development house is working on FPS for next-gen Sony console; game features enemies with regenerative powers.
During the Play UK 2006 video game seminar hosted by the United Kingdom Embassy in Tokyo, Kuju Entertainment creative director Tancred Dyke-Wells revealed that his company is working on Redwood Falls, a first-person shooter for the PlayStation 3.
Kuju showed off a tech demo of Redwood Falls during his presentation. According to a report by Famitsu.com, the gory sampling showed a man getting shot repeatedly by gunfire. The man's flesh would wear away, revealing bones and other innards behind open wounds. But the man didn't keel over and die after all the injected lead; instead, his body slowly healed until he was fully recovered.
Wells told Famitsu.com that the human model could have been created even more realistically so that even internal organs could be blown away. However, he held back from doing so this time around, since the main focus of the tech demo was to show off Kuju's development prowess.
According to Wells, Redwood Falls will feature plenty of regenerating enemies. The actual game will feature tougher enemies that can heal themselves and transform into more powerful forms and can even manipulate their bones and use them as weapons.
Kuju is currently looking for a publisher for Redwood Falls. No further information was given about the game.
We double checked with our Japanese correspondent on the Famitsu article and it does indeed report that the game is in development for PlayStation 3. If you aren't seeing it come up in the not-terribly-reliable BabelFish or Google translated pages, try looking for "play st Shaun 3" or a similar approximated phonetic spelling of the name.
For the record, I own and love my X360 (Can't wait for Fight Night Round 3 to come out). But I must note that I checked the translation and it does indeed seem to indicate that this is a demo for the PS3. The online translators (at least in my experience) always change the Japanese equivalent of "Playstation 3" to "place t Shaun 3". If you read the article through bablefish or the google translator you will see this all through the article. The screenshots look OK, nothing mind blowing. It would be nice to see some actual video of the demo to get a better idea of what they are describing. In any case, I would expect that either the 360 or PS3 should be capable of what they are describing in this demo.
But...how is this so sure to be on PS3? In the whole article they didn't mention about PS3 or anything.
Don't forget all those sweet I/O ports the PS3 has. You can use all kinds of different memory stick types (available at any local electronics shop) and who can say whether it will support Mouse + Keyboard or not? My money says yes, it will. Perhaps even via wireless Bluetooth (faster than 802 wi-fi) like the controllers. PS3-haters are out of their minds. The thing is going to be an engineering marvel and it'll still play all your DVDs, PS2 games and Blu-ray movies. There's no fanboyism; a simple admission that Sony's game division rocks their world and PS3 will be supported like gangbuster.
Commariodore64, aren't ps3 and x360 next gen consoles? And as to being misinformed, it was due to a simple oversight you can't be right all the time, everyone makes mistakes, we're all human...blah blah blah you know the rest. But thanks for letting us know the facts and I hope you brought it to the attention of the editors. (P.S. I can't read jpnese)
Ps3 is gonna be another disappointment just like the ps2. Right before the ps2 came out they had all these demos and movies of upcoming games and they all sucked during in-game gameplay. The dreamcast ,gamecube, and xbox killed ps2's graphics. Its ironic it turned out to be the most popular system. I'm not gonna believe a damn thing sony says until I actually see real-time gameplay with these graphics they promise. There really isn't one fps on ps2 that is worth talkin about because the ps2 isn't strong enough to handle great fps like halo and metroid. The only reason sony is still in the game is that it has so many diverse games, it sure isn't because of its graphical prowness. As for this next gen. of games, every game should run at 60 fps. Anything less should be trashed.
joygirl I'll stop 'bashing' when the editors admit fault and/or make a correction. They are stating something as gospel that is COMPLETELY unfactual. AND they even link to the source that DISPROVES their content!? This game IN FACT is a TECH demo runnning on a PC (NOT a PS3 or 360 Dev kit) to show their new game engine TARGETED for NEXT GEN CONSOLES. Not CONSOLE. IN FACT, the PS3 is NEVER mentioned!?!?!?!? I guess perhaps if you enjoy being misinformed then feel free to cut them some slack. Personally, I like to take responsibilty for my mistakes and dutifuly make proper corrections.
Quit bashing gamespot, they made a mistake it happens in the publication industry especially when you are trying to cover a mass amount of news and content. Anyway, the game does sound interesting but I agree with Bluestorm-Kalas on the gore becoming way to vivid and common place in society. I'll still rent though, you know, just to see what its about.
got babelfish and translate the article (http://www.famitsu.com/game/news/2006/02/07/103,1139317661,48419,0,0.html) and NO WHERE does it state it is for the PS3..... ....what is with Journalists? One passes off misinformatin and the rest just run with it! Again, go here for the full story... http://www.gamecloud.com/article.php?article_id=3407 Those folks actually SPOKE with the developer. Are you taking notes Gamespot?
Kuju prepping Redwood Falls for 360, GastaS says "sounds like it's going to be an awesome game". Kuju prepping Redwood Falls for PS3, GastaS says "nah, sounds like a load of crap". Those are the guys who make me laugh. Everything is crap because it's on another system that they have chosen to dislike due to maybe fate. In another dimension GastaS likes the Sony and disses Xbox, lol. I hope internal organs that can be blown apart are added to the game.
http://www.gamecloud.com/article.php?article_id=3407 It's NOT a PS3 game. Apprently Gamespot does not fact-check or translate appropriately. It was a demo of a new Next-Gen engine running on a PC - the dev actually states that it might have to be toned down graphically for Next Gen systems. He also states it is targeted for NEXT GEN SYSTEMS - both 360 AND PS3. Keep up te mediocre work, Gamespot!
i dunno, i bet we'll get to see a few pre-rendered trailers and pics, then see a game that doesnt live up to the hype...sony style
Thanks for actually giving us something to look at Optimusv2, it doesn't look bad, but it's not exactly what the hype leads you to believe. Still it is a tech-demo, but that's not going to stop childish fan-boys in all camps wasting space on the board.
Nonetheless its rather funny that people are crazy enough to think that a 7800GTX 512 can pull this stuff off and a superior videocard with a NEW unified shader architecture and 24 more pixel pipelines and 40 more vertex pipes can't do such a thing. Alot of people are still unaware due to sony's hype machine, but the 360's graphics card is incredibly superior to what is running inside the ps3. Don't believe me? Just wait and see. http://www.famitsu.com/game/news/2006/02/07/103,1139317661,48419,0,0.html Nothing at all too mindblowing if you scroll down to see a picture of the thing. Anyone ever stop to think for a second that maybe the only reason we've never seen this stuff on a 360 game is because no game that was made was going for such an angle?? Or is this going to be another fight night round 3 tech demo fiasco all over again?? Sony shows off something then makes it look like only a ps3 is capable of it then behold the 360 version of fight night releases and the damn thing looks better than the ps3's tech demo. So I'd be carefeul about jumping to conclusions about what the 360 can't do.
kevin634 not only could the 360 ati card handle it..... it could do it better. The ps3's videocard is a 7800GTX 512 the 360's videocard has no equal anywhere the closest thing to it is a x1900xtx and even that still can't outperform the 360 gpu. A 7800GTX 512 is an Nvidia G71, A x1900xtx is an ATI r580, the 360 GPU is basically an ATI r600 (unreleased for the pc) with many features that go well beyond shader model 3.0 specifications and even the unreleased directx 10 for windows vista. There is nothing special in that demonstration that the 360 isn't already fully capable of doing.
Its Going to VERY difficult I think, How are We going to kill the Enemies then? Capture trhem in Cages:P(ectoplasmic I mean)
FPS belongs on my PC. ... I expect exclusives and good console titles on console. Console FPS have all felt rather generic. This applies tro even Halo which ended up playing better as a PC game. Nuff said.
hey hush404, sure that seems reasonable, but they have done better stuff recently, such as battalion wars(8.3). I am sure that if they take the time to make a good game, then this will be great.
deathknight, you can plug in a mouse and keyboard also if you prefer that setup instead of controller
At first I was "HEY AWESOME!!" and now I'm weary because KUJU is the same company who made Warhammer 40000: Firewarrior, a complete piece of cr@p.
