i bought mgs 1 off ps store and have enjoyed immensely like i did when i had a ps1 so im not too hurt that it wont be included in this bundle. i wish there was a port of twin snakes in this but still, this will be a must buy. i have missed mgs 2 and snake eater very much and will be excited to play peace walker.
Xbox 360 and PS3 compilation to feature Subsistence version of Metal Gear Solid 3, complete with emulated versions of original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2.
At this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, Konami confirmed the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, saying the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 compilation would bundle together Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and last year's Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Today, series creator Hideo Kojima revealed players will be getting even more for their money with the package.
In a series of posts on his Twitter feed today, Kojima offered a bit of extra information on the bundle. Specifically, he confirmed that the version of Metal Gear Solid 3 included in the package is Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, the 2006 follow-up that packed in an additional online mode, the ability to control the in-game camera with the right analog stick, and other tweaks.
However, Subsistence also featured emulated versions of the original MSX versions of series progenitors Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2. That makes the collection a little more comprehensive than before, with the original Metal Gear Solid now the most glaring omission. (Kojima did note that the Japanese Metal Gear Solid HD Collection will include Metal Gear Solid, but it omits Peace Walker.)
The HD Collection isn't the only bit of Metal Gear nostalgia on the way. 3DS owners can look forward to the release of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater 3D later this year.

no MGS1, no BUY easy and clean like that, besides, we really need a remake of this one with the modern technology in disposition.
@suprsolider Soo... If someone has an xbox, he can't play MGS4 or portable ops because they were only on PS3 and PSP. Having another console ties your hands automatically and means that you can't play it with someone who has a PS3 or PSP? Come on man. I don't care about "exclusives", there will be always a friend who has a different console and can let you play. Or we can work and save money to buy another console in the future. I don't know, there are many possibilities. By now I don't care if I play MGS4 till 2012 or 2013, I will play because I like the GAME and I don't worship an specific console like if it was my religion.
@spinmastah Yeah, you know, back in the days of MGS2, I had to save a lot of money to buy a ps2, MGS2 is and will be my only PS2 game. I played Snake Eater with a friend because my PS2 stopped working properly.
I really, really like the concept of the MGS series but I suck at it. Perhaps because I found difficult to play Portable Ops and Peace Walker with just one analog stick, maybe my luck can chance with this HD collection. :P
See earlier comment about the maturity of the metal gear fans. Guess I was wrong, *sigh* I have an NES that still operates and have played all of the metal gears, though I did admit that I never OWNED a PS2. However I do not feel the need to boast about how much better of a fan that I am than others. I enjoy the game, enjoy the universe, and enjoy my choice of console :) That is all.
I still think it's stupid not to include Portable Ops either, since it was a major part of the story, which told how the US got the remainder of the Philosopher's Legacy, the formation of the Patriots, and where Big Boss got the money to create MSF and then later Outer Heaven and Zanzibar land.
@spinmastah, Obviously only a fan of Metal Gear SOLID because Metal Gear itself goes all the way back to 1987 on the MSX and 1988 on the NES (that version is garbage though, good for it's time though, just crap compared to the real version). So your NOT a fan since the beginning, I am though since I started with MG on the NES which is it's North American start all the way back in 1988. Also, you still don't get to play all the games on crapbox, so no MGS4 for you, nor Portable Ops which is the sequel to MGS3 and should have been in this collection since it plays a HUGE part of the story.
@JorgeChC I have been a big fan of MGS since the beginning but I never had the money for a PS2 back in the day. I am looking forward to booting up this HD collection and playing these on my 360. Some will be new experiences for me, some will be nestalgic, but it will all be awesome! I do agree however that MGS is a game for the older, more mature crowd that value stealth, brains or brawn gameplay. Run and gunners need not apply.
@Frame_Dragger I hope you were able to snag a copy before they sold out. This collection will be worth hundreds, if not thousands. It will be rare.
@warhawk-geeby : I'm not trolling, and I'm not trying to start some big console argument thing.. But generally speaking the average 360 gamer will not appreciate this half as much as they should. ----------- Man, just to say, even if we have a 360, a lot of us played the ps1 Metal Gear Solid, Sons of Liberty and Snake Eater on PS2. But I get your point, there is also a bunch of 360 owners (the average you are talking about) that just think of Halo.
@Frame_Dagger No, I'm sure you'll appreciate it just as much! I said the 'average' gamer. By average I mean someone that doesn't use gaming websites, and doesn't really know a game is coming out until they see it advertised in a shop. Think a 14 year old school kid that just plays COD all night every night. That's all I meant. An it's a shame more people won't appreciate what they've got.
@Frame_Dragger You should check out zavvi.com It is a UK site that will have 4000 copies of the Ultimate Metal Gear Solid HD for worldwide distribution. It includes Metal Gear Solid 1 PSN download code, MGS2, MGS3 subsistence w/ MG1 & 2, copy of Metal Gear Solid 4, Art Cards all in one cool Steel Case. Its about 120 american dollars after pound to dollar conversion.
This is awesome I've played the GCN remake of MGS, the remake of MGS 2, and I can't wait to play MGS 3, Peace Walker, and Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2
@Frame_Dragger You are crazy. The emulated version are the original MSX games from Japan. It would be nice to make remakes for next gen but it would take years. This bundle is great. Having Peace Walker HD is better than MGS1 which is in the PSN store anyways. and remade for gamecube.
very cool, i still get the ps2 MGS collection, but the PS3 HD collection is awesome!, and MGS 1 on psn.
wow, thats a good compilation. one of the best compilations i've ever seen. usually you would get a bunch of bad games and a couple of really good ones. but this bundle is like all good ones. im jealous. not that i mind that it gets on all consoles, but i was so happy mgs was for us playstation owners only...
man, i wanna play the first metal gear over again, but im holding off cuz i still think they're gonna release an HD remake of it, so the japanese are gonna get it, will US too? i guess according to this we wont be getting it, oh well, guess i'll start playing twin snakes and jump into this when it comes out
I wish they would port MGS 1 twin snakes the Gamecube remake that was awesome the graphics upgrade was definetly welcome!!!!! sorry for the double
Oh yes this is so awesome now I can finally play MGS 3 on something other than my jacked up PS2. I love METAL GEAR SOLID this is so AWESOME. Subsistance is a MASTERPIECE. I so can't wait to get my acheivements on my 360 for these games. I've been thru every metal gear solid game at least 3 times and they still are addictive I can't wait to sneak thru them again!!!!!!!
I'm not trolling, and I'm not trying to start some big console argument thing.. But generally speaking the average 360 gamer will not appreciate this half as much as they should.
@arhwhyayehn IT makes perfect Logic, If you would actually stop for a moment to think. in the US, many consider MGS1 to be a classic, so many MGS fans own it too. The PSP, however, is not very popular with North America, which is why Peace Walker is included. in Japan, where the handheld market is the dominant one, nearly every PSP owner has played Peace Walker. That is why it doesn't include PW in the package, everyone there already owns it. And in the US, most MGS fans already own the original MGS1. They merely adjusted it to fit each market. Besides, if you want MGS1 you can download it from PSN.
@Dragonsingh3000 Eh, already been remade for GC, and I don't think the MGS4 engine is that great. If there was to be another MGS remake, I'd rather see it on that new engine they're working on.
im still waiting for a full on hd make over for Metal Gear Solid 1, using the engine of metal gear solid 4 engine. loved the part in mgs4 revisiting sm, but would love the whole mgs1 game to be put in the mgs4 engine.
This is cool, but MGS1 is what I truly want. Its weird how the Japanese one has it and not Peace Walker. They should just include every game for everyone!
I might go for this, but yeah, the omission of the original MGS is pretty big. That's really too bad, cause I would love to see an HD version of MGS with over the shoulder view, like the later games.
sweet,i have always wanted an MGS game but only had an X360,so how about MGS4 for the X360 Mr Kojima please, pretty please
Metal Gear Solid 3 is one of my all time favorite games. This just sweetens the deal, since I was planning on buying this collection regardless
Oh how I need this! Since my PS2 packed in I've had to settle for MGS4 all these years! Mind you, I do have Twin Snakes on the GameCube.... might as well get reacquainted with Solid Snake for HD Collection!
