I'm glad he left, he's the man who just decided to pump out as much money as he can from the DW Series. See, now we'll get some different games. Not the same old thing every year. Buthey, I like DW, but it's just gettin old.
One of the Dynasty Warriors publisher's top executives, Kiyoshi Komatsu, abruptly exits.
Yokohama, Japan-based developer and publisher Koei has confirmed that its president and chief operating officer, Kiyoshi Komatsu, has left the company. He will be replaced by the current head of the online and mobile games division, Kenji Matsubara. (CORRECTION: GameSpot initially reported that Komatsu was Koei's CEO. That position is held by Masaru Iyori, who is retaining his post. GameSpot regrets the error.)
Koei was established in 1978 by cofounders Yoichi and Keiko Erikawa and is best known for the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors series of games. The company is currently working on a variety of titles for next-gen platforms, including the role-playing game Opoona (working title) for the Wii and multiplatformers Bladestorm: The Hundred Years' War and Fatal Inertia.
A Koei spokesperson confirmed Komatsu's departure and replacement by Matsubara but declined to issue a statement or give further comment on his reasons for leaving.
I can only hope that Koei gets back into form and stops making sub-par games. New material couldn't hurt em more than that dude.
I don't suppose that he took a look at the history of their games in the past five years and had some sort of groundhog day feeling? Like they keep repeating the same thing over and over?
Oh god, maybe he tried to rebel against them making ANOTHER generic beat em up' and they had to put him down?
Hmmm... I wonder why he really quit:|... Maybe they will tell us someday:) Hope the new person does a good job 8)
If you haven't yet seen Opoona go to gametrailers for vids. It's like a cross of spherical legos and Dragon Quest.
After making Romance of the 3 Kingdoms 12, he finally had a mental breakdown (which started at Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8).
I'm lookin forward to what Opoona brings to the table, but otherwise Koei haven't really impressed at all over the last few years. I mean, Dynasty Warrior is one of the crappiest franchises ever, talk about repetetive gameplay.
DW/SW games are crap anyway, IMO. Maybe this new leadership will help assure some real innovation in the company and actually release some worthwhile games.
NOOOOOooooooooo!!!!!!!! DW/SW games freaking ROCK!!!!! Im never going to see another one of those games get upgraded??? Thank god I just baught Sw2 empires. Damn it some of you guys might not think so but this is a very sad day for gaming.
I want Gundam Musou on my PS 3. Common, great combination, Gundam and Musou its sweet, does anyone have the import, I wanted to know if it has cooperative as the other musou games
Koei brought games like Disgaea 1&2 and La Pucelle to an English speaking audience, That was not Koei. Trust me. http://www.gamespot.com/games.html?type=company&mode=2012
Awesome! The company needs new leadership. The Dynasty Warriors franchise has just turned into rehash after rehash after rehash. Hopefully the new CEO won't allow crap like that.
This just in, according to a close friend of Komatsu a day before his decision was made to resign he had stated during a meeting "I swear to god if you guys make another Dynasty Warriors style game it's splitsville for me baby!"... ;)
Best known for craptacular Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors? I think not... Try the numerous STRATEGY games they created for the past 20 years... sheesh. Maybe now they'll refocus on what made the company great.
I think it's funny how people whine about too many Dynasy Warriors sequels when Megaman/Rockman has at least 5 times as many in the series. And I've loved almost every single one.
man, i just hope the next Dynast Warriors (and i'm certain there will be another one) is actually next gen and well developed unlike every other one in the series. and come on koei, there are so many other points in history you could make an awesome game on, why are you so single mindedly stuck on Dynasty Warriors. hundred years war is a start, but there are much better choices you could have made
I didnt know people actually played those games lol. What if this new guy is a genius and Dynasty Warriors XXXVI gets game of the year!
i think he finally realized that consumers got tired of dynasty warriors, eleven versions ago & bailed.
