30+ characters is good than making a few characters DLC. Good news to me. The delay news is a bit sour though.
Atlus-published Xbox 360 and PS3 sequel to latest SNK fighting game pushed back from previously scheduled October launch.
The latest coronation for the King of Fighters has been delayed. Atlus today announced that King of Fighters XIII will now launch November 22 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 at a $50 price point. Previously, the game had been set for an October launch window.
The first installment in the series since King of Fighters XII rebuilt it from the ground up in 2009, King of Fighters XIII will expand the roster from 22 characters to more than 30. Among the additions will be fan-favorite Mai, as well as King, Vice, K', Yuri, Maxima, and Billy Kane.
In addition to including faster fights and new "Neomax" super moves, Atlus is "completely revamping" the game's online mode, a significant point of criticism with the previous entry in the series. King of Fighters XIII will also feature new modes and stages not seen in the arcade release, though the publisher has not yet detailed those.
This will be the first time that Atlus handles publishing duties for the series. King of Fighters XII was published by Ignition, while previous installments were released by SNK Playmore itself.
I think people are underestimating King of Fighters 13. I know KOF isn't mainstream as SF and MVC; however I don't think rehashes of the same game sale as great as some may think. Not too long ago there was a Gamespot article that stated Capcom suffered from loses despite being a successful franchise. Remaking the same game over the course of years doesn't always yield as much profit as one would think. Not to mention all of the extra resources exhausted just to remake it. I think KOF 13 will do well. I have seen a lot of positive reactions from fans, new comers, and die hard traditional 2D fighter fans. Plus, KOF 13 was featured in EVO 2011, so Atlus is doing a great job as far as helping KOF get some kind of advertising, because SNK didn't get any kind of support from third parties in the past. MK 9 came out of nowhere in terms of noteworthy quality; because I really expected MK 9 to fail due to the horrible reputation during the ps2 era. I wouldn't be surprised if KOF 13 makes a good comeback. It seems like this is the year for old fighting game franchises to rejoin the ranks.
Need I say, Dang. But still getting this Day one (whenever that day is). Hopefully this extra time will be to include characters such as Angel, May Lee, Vanessa and Blue Mary and to make sure that the online is great. KOF 13 looks great and from the tourney and combo vids, will be a HIT. SNK/ATLUS bring us the King of Fighters :D
Hopefully they continued the story from KOFXI, KOFXII was boring as hell with lagging online, waterdown extras, no story, no unlockables, no DLC, and no end boss. KOF94, KOF98, and KOF2002 all had no story but they did a lot better than KOFXII and they had end boss as well as secret characters. If this game is not better than KOFXI or any before it, then the KOF series is dead to me.
Yes more time for me to play Gears 3... Only bad thing is that now I'm only getting KOF XIII, no longer am I getting uMVC3. I was going to get both, but I can't juggle two fighters within the same time period. So I'm going with the series I played all my life.
WHAT? 1 day after Skyward Sword? not cool Atlus, not cool, i'm still gonna get it but i'm going to put much less time with Zelda and Dark Souls around, still, its looking pretty good.
With the ever-increasing market for fighting games I sure hope KoF XIII can stand among the likes of SSF IV and BlazBlue.
This is typical SNK bs, keep delaying the game, funs get upset, in the end the game doesn't sell well.
Such a foolish thing to do, now the game will sell like rotten eggs. What other games are out around that time oh lets see MW3, Skyrim, Saints Row 3. These games will effectively kill many sales that KOF deserved. Bad move Atlus
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Do not delay my most anticipated game of ALL TIME!!! There will be the devil to pay this! What's the reason for the delay? This is a major bummer dude.
@ProjektInsanity & @QuartrGuy: Hey, don't worry. KOF XIII happens to be a improvement over KOF XII (I'm just lucky that I never even bought or rented KOF XII at all).
This is NOT the first time Atlus has published a KoF game. They published The King of Fighters EX 2 Howling Blood for the Gameboy Advance.
It looks like it's shaping up to be a good game. Hopefully, it will make the fans forget the travesty that was KOF XII. I wanted to enjoy that game, I really did :`(
A day 1 buy 4 me. I'm a late bloomer when it comes to the KoF series. My 1st experience with any of the characters from this series was Capcom vs. SNK on the Dreamcast (which was a very good fighting game & needs 2 b rereleased on XBL & PSN). Speaking of which Capcom & SNK please make another crossover game more along the lines of Capcom vs. SNK 4 the Dreamcast. But yea this series is pretty good so i'll buy on Nov. 22.
A title can be pushed back a month for something as simple as printing scheduling issues. This feels like a solid release date. It's good, too. KoF will be able to beat out the 2012 rush of fighting games.
I truly loved the KoF series since '94, and this looks to be a solid game. For the remaining fans, I hope it is. I, sadly, will not be playing this game. After the shameful ATROCITY that was KoF XII, I have vowed never to support another KoF title. Unplayable online, no boss, no story, 5 stages, half the characters left unfinished. What did Vice have, like three moves? I'm sorry, but that's not how you treat your fanbase. That game should have never been released in that state, and certainly not for $60. Shame on you SNK.
I soo want this game. Sad news that its delayed, but on the bright side extra polishing is always good, and its not to next year but about a month. At least this way we wont be "Super'd" or "Ultimate'd" Also, gives me time to play Dark Souls.
@shaun ofda dead While your second point is agreeable and makes sense, but it will still get lost in the November slot. Sure, it's later in the month, but the number of games this November outnumbers that of October and many people will be paying more attention to the other (more popular) games released. I'm still getting KOF XIII, but don't count on it being found by a massive crowd
I was hoping to pick up both Battlefield 3 and KOF XIII on the same day, but I'll have to wait until November to play it. While that's bad for the delay, I just hope they give it enough polish before release!
This is a good thing fro a few reasons. 1- It won't get lost in the October game schedule. 2- They can polish some of the finer points. I'm still excited, and I know its unstoppable I hope MVC3 Ultimate doesn't overshadow this too much.
I'm sad. But at least it's only a month, make sure this sucker is released polished SNK and Atlus.
Don't mind at all; as the saying goes... A delayed game will eventually be good, but a rushed game will be bad forever.
