Game to be subtitled Ninja Gaiden Z and developed by Comcept, Team Ninja and Sparks Unlimited.
Keiji Inafune today revealed more details about his previously-teased Yaiba project. The announcement came during a Tecmo Koei media event held ahead of tomorrow's Tokyo Game Show start.
The full name of the game was revealed to be Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, with Tecmo Koei serving as the game's publisher. The title will be a joint venture between Inafune's company, Comcept, Team Ninja, and western game developer Spark Unlimited (Lost Planet 3, Legendary).
In the spin-off, the main character, Yaiba, is tasked with killing Ninja Gaiden protagonist Ryu Hayabusa for reasons unknown. The game is believed to combine Inafune's love for ninjas, zombies and samurai.
Development on the game is already underway, but little more is known about its gameplay, story, estimated release window, or shipping platforms. Stay tuned for more details as they come to hand.
Also Ryu Hayabusa appears in the trailer . :-) I don't know what is going on but spinoffs sometimes are even better than the core games ( like Persona games in Shin Megami Tensei franchise ) .
NG3 is almost unplayable online, im just sick of Marbus glitches . The single player campaign is good on MN . :-)
This could actually be pretty good. Sure, to this day I pretend Ninja Gaiden 3 does not exist (outside of The Ancient Ship of Doom for the nes). But that is one game. The original Ninja Gaiden was brilliant, and Sigma 2 was pretty great. Add the creator of Mega Man and you at least have a much better chance of it being really good than really bad. Mega Man X is one of my top ten games of all time. Brilliant in it's game design. And the man who had a hand in that games design is on board. As cynical as I am, I think I'll shelve my pessimism for now.
Really team ninja? Does every thing need zombies? What the F!@#? Ninja Gaiden 3 now this thank god your TRYING to fix NG3 with razors edge, which will probably also be a big piece of S!@# too. But if it happens to be a success make some FREE add-on content for the people who drounded thier paychecks on NG3 and finished felling that they just got F!@# up the a$$, sure the wii u a new shiney d!@# but that doesnt mean you should !@#$ the people who gave the same amout of money to your produck who praised your series from the beginning.
Second what kind of trailer was that? you gave us game play but you didnt, icouldnt see what the F!@# was going on. give us a few seconds of gameplay then do your thing.
with the crap that team ninja put together that was called Ninja Gaiden 3 they will never get my money again, they took everything that was good about 2 and took it out of 3. Hell id go far enough to say is all they did was make combat fun, the story and everything else was a sick joke and ninja gaiden needs a new development team without any input from team ninja. They should do to Ninja Gaiden 3 what they did with the ET game. I am still baffled that they ruined NInja Gaiden, i wasntnot aware u could take a game as gruesome and fun like that and just dumb it down and destroy what made it special. *rant over
@dkidfrmdbx Yep they screwed it up so bad, thought maybe they would not but NG3 is horrible just not fun, in NG and NG2 every fight felt meaningful. I would feel sick to my stomach for rest of life if i was one of developers who worked on NG3
"Yaiba, is tasked with killing Ninja Gaiden protagonist Ryu Hayabusa for reasons unknown". Well he shouldn't be too hard to find. Ryu doesn't have the first clue how to act like an actual Ninja so any townsperson should be able to point him out :P
Let the Arcade get this straight, the Megaman creator is building a Ninja Gaiden game!?!?! Tecmo-Koei really have fallen on hard times to ask for all of this help. I have to admit though this is good strategem. Perhaps Inafune's way might create something fresh. He deserves all the credit in the world for creating our beloved blue mascot who Capcom butchered.
@TheArcade Too bad he can't do a 'Onimusha spin-off', either.......seeing as Capcom has equally abandoned that. too. <_<
As if the Ninja Gaiden series doesn't already had a spinoff series of its own (Dead or Alive), why make a second one?
i will definitely be picking this game up. Still havent purchased NG3 yet which i will when it gets to 20 bucks.
there are certain games that i never buy day 1 anything from bethesda (duh) ninja gaiden. and almost any fighting game.
against ryu hayabusa this dudes probably already dead back from hell for revenge he was probably one of the evil pawns ryu sliced up without knowing it in Ninja Gaiden 3 whistle while you work. sorry yaiba it was just business nothing personal.
A spin-off could be just what this series needs. I think they messed up the last game by trying to do things to it that were contrary to the feel of the gameplay and series generally.
At least here they won't have to contradict themselves while making the thing, if it sucks it sucks, but games that try starting fresh and cutting cords rarely *really* suck.
Hopefully Inafune's team will be able to ensure that this game doesn't turn out like NG3. I'll be keeping a close eye on this one.
Can we please kill off the zombie trend? PLEASE?! Just like MMOs, not every single franchise needs to have them! D:<
But then again, ever since Itagaki was fired, Ninja Gaiden has been dying a cold, slow death. NG3 was such an embarrassing letdown.
@jinzo9988 I know right..Im not exactly thrilled about the single player lost planet game theyre doing. It looks like a Gears knock off, and this game? Looks so generic......
Is NG a Japanese CoD now? NG 1 and 2 were the best in the series, yet they are continuing down the Activision/EA/Capcom route and will ruin it til Team Ninja run out of money or until they collaborate with Activision for a FPS Ninja Gaiden set in the future with zombies then have robotic limbs as well as aliens.
Either go back to formula, or give up. The Japanese industry is perceived to be "dying" because of crap like this and NG3. FYI, hunting down the main protagonist of the last game or so is a dumb move (Prototype and Prototype 2), of which makes the previous titles pointless or makes the new protagonist un-likeable (Prototype for both again, of which came from Activision).
I'm losing faith in many companies because of false practise, making it clear which ones truly care about making a GOOD GAME! As far as the Japanese industry is concerned, I'll be looking at Square Enix, Namco and Konami for future titles.
@JustArtificial The problem is Itagaki left....you are seeing a direct result of that alone. The dry corporate model works for games like Cod or battlefield where the same game can be made using upgraded and recycled assets. But a game like Ninja Gaiden requires something drastically different. Lets just say I trust the Japanese with making a Ninja game a little better than I trust some western developer whos view point is probably a lot more culturally narrow.
This game will be cool but Yu can tell its based on the artwork its not like NG black or NG2 Or NG3, demon ninja clan and its gonna be its own styles
