Avalanche Studios co-founder says Sony's PlayStation 4 is "a perfect fit for the types of games we do."
Just Cause developer Avalanche Studios co-founder Linus Blomberg has spoken openly about his optimism for Sony's upcoming PlayStation 4, praising the hardware and saying it will "out-power most PCs for years to come."
"It's always very exciting with a new console cycle, for a number of reasons," said Blomberg in an interview with GamingBolt. "The consoles desperately need a boost since having been overtaken in terms of performance by PCs several years ago, and also losing market share to mobile platforms."
Speaking about Sony's intentions for the PlayStation 4, Blomberg said the device "will not only be a very powerful gaming machine from a hardware perspective, but it will also be a social tool and integrated marketplace more akin to the successful mobile devices."
"It's the best of all worlds in a way; great performance for demanding high-end gaming, good social ecosystem and connectivity, and integrated business marketplace. For Avalanche Studios as an open-world games developer this is super exciting and opens up many new opportunities."
Avalanche Studios has been frequently teasing at least one upcoming title with enigmatic screenshots, with many speculating that the developer is gearing up to formally unveil Just Cause 3.
Blomberg thinks PlayStation 4 is the right match for Avalanche Studios. "It's a perfect fit for the types of games we do, and we are confident that we'll bring open-world gaming to a whole new level because of it. I'm glad Sony decided to go with 8gb RAM because it means that the PS4 will out-power most PCs for years to come."
Blomberg also speculates that Sony's decision to use off-the-shelf components "makes sense from a pricing and heating point of view, but it also means that Sony more easily can make incremental improvements of their system."
"If that's actually their plan I don't know, but it could help preventing the inevitable loss of market shares that the long console cycles entails."
if anything was misinterpreted it would be... oh... the entire article. the only benefit consoles have over PC's is the ability to optimize on a uniformed closed system with identical universal hardware.. Its hard to optimize pcs because of the vast difference in gaming setups. the ps4s hardware is already dated and it hasnt even launched yet... now, will it hold its ground? more than likely... for a couple years. but with intels new lineup in 2015? good riddance. streaming full and multi-platform games to tablets will be the next console. sony needs to think this through.
Check it out PC faptards - you just got pwnd in specs.
If you look at a PC, said Cerny, "if it had 8 gigabytes of memory on it, the CPU or GPU could only share about 1 percent of that memory on any given frame. That's simply a limit imposed by the speed of the PCIe. So, yes, there is substantial benefit to having a unified architecture on PS4, and it?s a very straightforward benefit that you get even on your first day of coding with the system. The growth in the system in later years will come more from having the enhanced PC GPU. And I guess that conversation gets into everything we did to enhance it."
good article actually. http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/191007/inside_the_playstation_4_with_mark_.php?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+GamasutraNews+%28Gamasutra+News%29
You PC and console guys are all clueless and it is clear none of you ever made a game before. (especially the console guys are even more clueless by far)
Go do it come back so your arguments start to sense from a programmers or artist point of view.
8gb RAM ??!! i have 64gb G-Skill 1600mhz on ASUS Rampage iv extreme motherboard with 3930k CPU and two gtx 670 in SLI .....can it beat that ?
As far as I remember GPU performance will be somewhere between Ati's 7770 and 7850 - and that's lowend in pc world.
Even my GTX660 "none ti" is much faster then this.
Or a little more accurately 'out-power all Macs for decades to come'
Now to wait for the swarm to attack.
Ok console kiddies...
Please realize; the PS4's hardware is *already* obsolete by PC standards.
This isn't some magical new chip that Sony has designed, like the PS3's Cell processor; these are generic AMD graphics chips and x86 CPUs, like we PC gamers had in our rigs...oh, 2 years ago.
Please explain how old PC hardware is going to become more powerful just because it's in a PS4?
@weewalio Its not so simple. console games are optimized for specific hardware they dont have any overhead so that's why they look and perform better then the more expensive PC parts.
Maybe your too young to remember but it happens with every new console cycle, new consoles come out and games look better then on most expensive PC's
At least this time, new consoles use x86 architecture so we wont be left behind, they can easily port every game to PC without too much money and effort and they will run better and look (at least on AMD hardware) like their console variations
no they don't look better..what the hell rock do you live under? You guys are clueles. Unless you own a PC with at least $1000 worth of parts or more you have no clue.
A $300 graphics card like now the 7950 is 2x more powerful than what is in the ps4. Then the 7970 gtx 680 etc. No way you can even come close. Pc's are now pushing 5k resolutions etc. You can't do that on a console.
Console games are console games...they are coded for the console. Console "port" games that are made for a console but "ported" over sometimes look no better because of a lazy developer...not because of the hardware. It has nothing to do with the PC and it is a rip off for who ever buys the game.
that was right some years ago when most of us had a dual maybe low quad CPU but today we have much much stronger cups and gpus such as 3930 and gtx 680 with these kind of combination we can run any game at maximum settings and extreme high res textures etc....and far beyond full hd you can even play on 3 connected monitors with resolution up to 1600 by 5760. i can even add another two gtx 680 for more power . ps4 can't beat that.
Great, thanks to this idiot now, consoletard children will try to argue that their shit 400 dollar console toy is better than my 5000 dollar gaming PC because this guy said so, over the next 5 years.
Why did he have to go and say stupid bullshit like this?
It will be like CrApple fanboys still yelling that their devices can't ever get viruses because Steve Robs told them so 5 years ago.
@eduardvictor Wow, you spent $5K on a gaming PC?! Even if you can run the latest $1K graphics card in tandem, did you just buy $2K worth of hard disks after you spent a ridiculous $1K on the chassis, CPU and RAM? I wish I could afford that.
I probably spent more, but i never purchased a whole PC I upgrade something once a year, my latest upgrade was ATI 7970Ghz edition that I paid 660USD for, but im not from USA over here we pay more.
I did sold my previous card (GTX580) for 330USD so i kind of paid only half price. (I got GTX 580 in December of 2010 for 700USD)
And that's what I do every year, next time ill sell my 2600K CPU and my Mobo and get a new one
That's probably true but somewhat less impressive when you think that vast majority of PC's are used in offices and don't need anywhere near 8GB of RAM let alone a GPU.
PC is a year old and it out-performs the PS4. And lol @ him for acting like eight gigs of RAM is significant. How humiliating for that guy's company.
I particularly had a good laugh when reading about this... http://www.nvidia.com/titan-graphics-card then remembering this article.
Lol'd at this so hard. My PC is better and I bought this more than a year ago. Nevertheless I'm no fanboy, I'll be getting a PS4 aswell. Different games are better on different platforms, simple as that. Tards who say otherwise are just exactly that, tards!
@Hurrystream Why did you laugh? He said average PC. Not some $1000 GPU PC. He's on to something.
@Hurrystream read the 5000 comments, then you'll really luagh
Sooo where do I place my wager on this one ? The ps4 has equivocally a hd7850 for graphics. anyone "serious" has better already.
@sleepy95civic Most PC gamers have worse actually. PS4 has triple the memory of a hd7850, and is more efficient by far so it will destroy a pc with that card.
What does he mean it hurt Console gaming WHEN PCs surpassed consoles for performance? When were consoles ever superior graphically to PCs? In 2007, Crysis came out for PC and was, until recently, one of the most hardware-intensive game (on highest settings) ever. In 2005, the Xbox 360 came out...and it took 4 years after the release of Crysis (2011) before it could even run a severely dumbed down version of Crysis. Perhaps the PS4 will outperform most PCs, but it will not outperform most, if any, GAMING PCs.
