Journey misses out on Grammy
Austin Wintory's composition for adventure game comes up short in music awards, loses to Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
The soundtrack for ThatGameCompany's downloadable game Journey was up for a Grammy last night during the awards show, but it was not meant to be.
Austin Wintory's composition for the well-received and record-breaking adventure game ultimately lost out to Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo for Best Score Soundtrack For Visual Media.
Writing on Twitter, Wintory congratulated Reznor for his victory and thanked fans for their support of his work on Journey.
Other nominees, all of which were films, included John Williams for The Adventures Of Tintin--The Secret Of The Unicorn; Ludovic Bource for The Artist; Hans Zimmer for The Dark Knight Rises; and Howard Shore for Hugo.
Last year, American composer Christopher Tin took home the Grammy Award for Civilization IV opening song "Baba Yetu," marking the first time a video game composition has won in the awards' history.
The Journey soundtrack is made up of 18 tracks composed and arranged by Wintory. It reached position 116 on the Billboard sales charts and made over 4,000 sales in its first week of release.
