Sega confirms "upgraded HD version" of 2000 Dreamcast game to be available through digital channels later this year.
Jet Set Radio's teased comeback has been confirmed. Sega today formally announced that a port of Jet Set Radio is due digitally this summer on Xbox Live, the PlayStation Network, and for Windows PCs.
Jet Set Radio--known as Jet Grind Radio in North America--shipped in 2000 for the Sega Dreamcast. The port will be an "upgraded HD version," according to Sega.
No price was mentioned for Jet Set Radio.
Jet Set Radio casts players as Beat, the leader of a graffiti gang, who zips around the futuristic city of Tokyo on inline skates. Players steal turf from opposing gangs by tagging the city with graffiti art.
The arrival of Jet Set Radio on Xbox Live, the PSN, and PC is part of Sega's effort to release Dreamcast titles on contemporary platforms, as was announced in 2010. Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi were the first titles to be released as part of the program.

I hope they made it play more like JSRF on the original XBox. I felt that game flowed better than having to stop and do some motions with the thumbstick in the first game. And I know I won't be expecting the ability to download a picture and use it as graffiti in game like the Dreamcast original did but oh well.
Please keep all the same tracks, I don't care if they produce new music in addition, but no swapping, please!
I hope that when this comes out in the summer and sells well (I know it will), Sega will see that there is still a large market for this franchise and that the fans of this series who still go back once and a while and play the original are in need of a new installment to the series, and I hope that they dont try to resurrect the game they were making for the Wii. Only because that art style would "pop' so much better in 1080p. IMO
Glad to see this coming out know. But Sega i think about time you shift more classics since your new game in stores didnt sale game well in uk :[. Bring more classics plz pp will buy .
I'll be quite open here and admit that I have never played JSR. In fact, I had never even heard of it - or Beat, its main character - until I played Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing. Since that time I've looked into the game and regretted that I've never had the pleasure, so this will be more or less an instabuy for me if Sega doesn't botch the porting like they did with the other Dreamcast games on the PC.
Good news, I still have the Dreamcast version and might get it again, it's good that more players get to have fun with this great game! :)
Can't wait to get my hands on this... I couldn't stop playing this when it first came out, The original soundtrack should be a no brainer but seeing what they did with crazy taxi, who knows, can't wait already!
One interesting question I should ask Sega: Will the network features from the DC version be brought back modernized?
@VenkmanPHD The reason why the 3rd game (which was developed by the people who would go on to make HOTD: Overkill) got scrapped was simply because Sega wasn't interested in the project, and was pretty much how Overkill got made. On the bright side at least, if there is gonna be a 3rd game in the series, it will at least be on a "next-gen" console at this point, with the Wii U coming out and all.
@nickythenewt21 You may find it interesting to know that there was a 3rd game planned for the Wii. I am not sure why it was canned, but there is some info on google.
IF YOU HAVE NEVER PLAYED THIS GAME THAN YOU ARE A FOOL! JSR (JGR for American's like myself who were subjected to this arbitrary name change) Is one of the coolest games ever, it pioneered Cell-Shading (read borderlands graphics for those who don't get it) It's a way fun game, and in HD will look great. Here is hoping it does so well they finally release the 3rd game that was originally planned for Wii.
Everybody should buy this so we can get a new entry in the series! Imagine a JSRF with today's graphical capabilities!
dang...it got the full HD treatment! looks fantastic! missed this gem back in the day but this is a definite download for me.
The Xbox version is way better! Sega loves pulling the WRONG MOVES!! Why put out the Sega Saturn version ( in HD ) of Daytona? While Daytona 2 for the Dreamcast. was far better?! If Sega never puts out a HD version of Skies of Arcadia ( or the Gamecube's Legends ) Sega is!.... OMG!!! what else can I call these fools?
I own Jet Grind Radio, pirated the Japanese "De La Jet Set Radio", and own the sequel on the Xbox. Uber-happy there will be a PC version. I gotta say though: I wonder why they didn't keep the "Jet Set Radio" back in the day in the first place? was it over copyright reasons or something? Either way, happy to hear "O.K. House" again. :3
great, i remember playing this on the dreamcast... its a shame that dreamcast hadn't had a greater success, it really had some great games, thankfully some are being ported to newer consoles (like sonic adventure, now jet set radio). i'm still waiting for phantasy star online though... that was an amazing game
Ah, Jet Set was (and still is) one of my favorite Dreamcast games. I still own it, but I'll be getting this version for the trophies.
I'll buy it. I'm sure they will include the Japanese soundtrack or all of them for them matter. Also I hope it sells well so that they release JSRF as well.
YES! This is the most exciting news I've heard all year I love Jest set Radio Furture and Jet Grind Radio to death and hearing this just made me so excited finally sega is paying attention to this amazing series again. Maybe even a sequel on next gen consoles?
OMFG the day has come and its the original game. I was just playing Jet Set Radio Future the other day thinking what would an upgraded HD version look like. Awesome game, awesome graphics, awesome soundtrack.
Never thought I would see the day this game to PS3.I remember the first time I played it was way back when Sega Dreamcast was out.
Hopefully this means Shenmue will receive a HD remake as well. My two favourite game series of all time
Woot! never got to play this on the legendary console that is Dreamcast. I did however buy Jet Set Radio Future for my xbox360 :D
I cant wait for this to come out i love playing this game, now i get to play this game with achievements or trophies
