Interplay hangs on to D&D
The publisher maintains the license for games based on the Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale Dungeons & Dragons franchises.
Interplay Entertainment has announced that it will maintain the license to develop and publish games using the Dungeons & Dragons franchises of Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale. The rights are licensed from Infogrames Interactive, which also owns the rights to Neverwinter Nights. The multiple-year license lets Interplay subsidiary Black Isle Studios create multiple console and PC games based on the popular tabletop role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons.
"We are very excited about our strong Dungeons & Dragons product lineup," said Herve Caen, president and CEO of Interplay Entertainment. "As the computer role-playing game franchise that revitalized the computer RPG genre, Baldur's Gate is firmly established as one of the leading brands in the interactive entertainment industry worldwide. We are thrilled to be developing new additions to this critically and commercially successful franchise."
Interplay is currently developing Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance for the Microsoft Xbox, and additional games in the popular Baldur's Gate franchise. We'll post more information about the new games as it becomes available.
