Infinium reveals, retracts Phantom game publishers
Makers of long-awaited PC game console unveil their publishing partners, only to put the wraps back on them a few hours later.
Earlier today, Infinium Labs revealed a list of game publishers who will provide titles for their PC game console, the Phantom. The list featured over 500 titles from 60-plus companies, the majority of which were either educational or low-budget titles. However, it included several major names, including Take-Two Interactive and Strategy First.
However, only hours after it published the list, Infinium took it down. In its place is a Web page that said, "The temporary list of content/publishers (sic) previously shown were titles that are available currently for distribution with the Phantom console. It is by no means a complete compilation of games available on the Phantom." The notice also urged visitors to return to the site to see a list of games "pending developer/publisher approval," which indicates some of the companies on the list may have asked Infinium to remove it.
The publisher flip-flop comes less than a week after the Phantom, long believed to be hoax was finally shown to the public at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Infinium has not set a date for the console's release.
