Xavier Gens to begin shooting game adaptation in Bulgaria this week says Variety; Desperate Housewives star confirmed as villain.
Bulgaria is soon to be the site of many gruesome assassinations...on film anyway. Variety is reporting that Hitman, the upcoming 20th Century Fox film based on the Eidos game franchise, will begin shooting this week in the country's capital of Sofia. Befitting the game's many exotic locales, the movie will also be filmed in South Africa, London, and Istanbul.
As previously reported, Deadwood's Timothy Olyphant will play the lead, the bald assassin for hire known as Agent 47. Dougray Scott, who plays suburban suitor Ian Hainsworth in TV's Desperate Housewives, is locked in as the film's antagonist. Other cast members include Olga Kurylenko, Michael Offei, Ulrich Thomsen, and Robert Knepper, all directed by Frenchman Xavier Gens, who takes his first turn behind the camera of a big-budget Hollywood film.
Dougray Scott is a great actor but I would rather see David Bateson (the voice of hitman in the games) in the role as hitman. Not just because he has the proper voice but he also looks a lot more like him than any of the other actors I have seen being suggested for the role. Have a look.
Vin Diesel wouldn't be a serious actor. If he was to be in the movie than it would have to be action oriented. Timothy Olyphant is a good choose.
Maybe they should have mentioned Dougray Scott's previous villain role in Mission:Impossible II, not some stint on TV.
Hitman has a sophisticated lead and generally compelling if not interesting story so it shouldnt take much to make this into a decent if not great movie.
The movie isn't important, although I hope it doesn't flop. I just want another Hitman game. I beat Contracts and Blood Money to death.
What angered me is the fact that David Bateson auditioned for the lead role, and they wouldn't take him. Bateson would've been perfect for the role, as he is not only the voice for Agent 47, he is the character model, so it would be 47 incarnate. David Bateson is also 47 years old as of February 9th, 2007.
Well it is better then Vin Diesel. Christain Bale could have been a good 47....Well Look wise anyway. I don't know who the hell Ian Hainsworth is. As long as it is more noir not Shoot out after shoot out, It could be ok.
Timothy Olyphant? Weak... might as well have Howie Mandel play 47. At least he's bald by default these days.
They should use the guy that did 47's voice in the games and have Timothy Olyphant lip sync to the lines.
i totally agree to cast Jason Statham instead of any other actor...i had already said that to cast Jason Statham in place of van diesel when i heard that van diesel would be the agent 47..
Dude...Timothy Olyphant?!?! WTF? I mean, I like the guy but he's not exactly who I think of when I think of Agent 47 :|
-Null- He would have been the perfect candidate, but there's one problem. He played the Transporter. He's best known for being the guy in the black suit, tie, and driving gloves in the Transporter, so making another movie where he looks almost exactly the same would be sort of confusing, and may cause problems with the creators of the Transporter.
Jason Statham (The Transporter 1,2 and Crank) should definetly be the HitMan of this film, cause if you think about it, i have a list. -He's half bald (needs to shave completely) -In the transporter movies, especially part 2 he ADORES his black suit lol -He got the voice -He can handle guns and do stunts -He can drive cars pretty dam good -Has that Hitman (ish) look in his eyes the way 47 does -Has the physique or the right body shape (No Homo lol) for a Hitman
'apsalar' "like somebody said its a hit or miss scenario with Timothy Olyphant.... still there was a big uproar about Daniel Craig playing bond but the film turned out really well..." he has a point... the thing is, you have to remember, that 007 is a multi-million dollar movie series that's been around for decades, they know the score, they know the type they need to pull off the role of James Bond. everyone knows how James Bond is supposed to act, and appear and whatnot. but half the people that would go to see this movie, wouldn't even know it was based off a game, so if they don't get the character 100% like 47 from the game, it's not that big a deal, except to the people who HAVE played the game
I still say they should take a more Film Noir approach to the Hitman movie. Last I heard he was chasing a witness in the film, which has potential but I think it should be something much more personal to 47. After all, audiences who haven't played the games will find themselves having to relate to a viscious killer in under two hours.
its cool that the movie is finally coming ive been waiting for it, but i think the the guy who played The Transporter should play Agent 47 yall should think about it!
like somebody said its a hit or miss scenario with Timothy Olyphant.... still there was a big uproar about Daniel Craig playing bond but the film turned out really well... Hopefully this will be good enough to be enjoyed in the end. anyway as a Bulgarian, seeing the film at some point is a must now :) ps the locations do connect to the Hitman universe, at least that we can be happy about
This movie has the potential to be good, let's just hope they don't f#$% it up. *ahem* Bloodrayne *ahem* Hollywood can be pretty good at screwing up source material.
Statham is good, but nothing like Agent 47. His voice is too damn distinct. I had enough of Statham's over the top action flicks. Too much BS for me. Transporter 2 was garbage, and Crank, was just a "marketing" experiment. I'm not saying I agree with who they chose, but Jason Statham wouldn't been any better. Let's just hope the movie doesn't suck, but it most likely will.
Timothy Olyphant has no place in this movie, damnit! Put Jason Statham in the role of 47 and we might just get a movie worth seeing.
dude wtf come on, they should of chosen the actor from Transporter.. He has the build, the mentality, the acting and believability to be a professional killer.. Not instead they chose a horrible actor for the role that looks like NOTHING to the main character.
Statham's got too much swagger. No stealth. And the voice is no good. Trust me, I think he'd rock playing an assassin too, but not this one. He's got the look and that's it. Let's test Olyphant out, k? At least it ain't Vin. He'd probably be a burlier, brawlier version of 47. At least with the Scream 2 killer, we've got the quiet cool down. Anyway, filming in Bulgaria, South Africa, London, and Istanbul!? Big-budget indeed!!
