Flagship Studio's RPG gets a spooky October 31 North American retail date, coming to Europe on November 2.
The doors of hell will be opening for PC owners on October 31--the traditional date that ghosts are said to be able to make contact with the living--in North America.
Hellgate: London, made by some of the key developers of Diablo, has gamers play as a survivor of a demon invasion of London, battling the supernatural beasts and attempting to find some way to stop their takeover of the planet.
The title, which is published by EA and Namco Bandai, will also be released in Europe a few days later on November 2. For more on the game, please read GameSpot's interview with Flagship CEO Bill Roper.
Oh Shuts atmospherecf !!! Hellgate is not even release yet, all of the stuff about paying monthly fee make you better than other is just bogus rumors. As Flagship said numerous times, paying the 'optional' fee will get you extra character slots, extra stash, 24hr customer support, etc. *Notice the 'extra', you won't be better than anyone else by subscripting. * Get your source right next time atmospherecf, or it'll just make you a troll.
This game will be a shelf game. It has a monthly fee to have access to unique items. *This game is not worth buying*
I hope the publishers staged battles in fictional chueches so that they don't run into the same problem that befell Resistance for the PS3 !
It sucks that it won't be a "summer-ish" release like Roper was gunning for, but at least the date is finally concrete. Guess I'll have to occupy my time with RE4 Wii and Metroid Prime 3 (when it comes out later this month). Cool that such a game comes out on Halloween...wonder if they'll do anything special in the online multiplayer that day.
I was hoping for December so that I would have more time to build my dream rig. :( Now the pressures on.
Meh. I was all excited about the game till EA being publisher and then the online pricing plan was announced. Then it went to "meh, I'll see what people have to say when its out." status. Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem paying a monthly fee when its justified, but the plan sounds like a total rip off for people who choose to pay, and for people who don't. They will be simotaniously screwed. Bill Roper, you disappoint me. So I will sit and wait.
It's about damn time... I've been waiting for a release date on this game for a long time... This game has been in production since 2004, so hopefully it won't dissapoint due to the enormous wait.
OMG YOU'RE KIDDING. This pisses me off...a lot. It's coming out a day after Age of Conan! BLOODY HELL!
I'm rather looking forward to this game so I hope it's good. I also hope they decide to change their content fee policy. I'd much rather pay for content packs and engage in "noble" micro-transactions than pay a monthly fee. In fact, I won't be paying a monthly fee for Hellgate. So if that disrupts game play enough to have my loose interest, oh well.
I do realize that the subscription is optional, but it is still a scam. They are giving you part of a game and making you pay monthly for the rest. If you pay and access any of the exclusive features, you have to keep paying or they lock it out. I want to pay for content, not pay a monthly fee for vague promises of more content. Just develop the content and sell it to us, I say. Why should we pay monthly for updates that are quarterly (for anything major). They don't even promise that the big updates will be quarterly, or all that big. I would rather buy an extra character slot than have to pay an outrageous rent on one. It isn't about paying for content, it is about them trying to pass a Guild Wars type game off as an MMO to milk money from people. If they develop episodic content updates and charge based on the size and quality of the content, I am all for it. My suggestion of a boycott was to get them to implement a better, more legitimate system of delivering new content, not to get a lot of new stuff for free.
They should make a real song and dance for it in London. The advertisement could be really clever if they planned it out.
bestco - they shouldn't name the game "London", that will have a limited appeal to some gamers." Right, because if the game isn't based in my home town I wont be able to identify with it and will lose it's appeal. Even though the game's location is London they shouldn't name it that. How about Hellgate: Los Angeles? Maybe Hellgate: 90210?? How about Hellgate: Baghdad?!?!
Starbead, you realize the subscription is optional right? You dont have to pay that $10 each month to play online.
I say we boycott this game til they drop the money-grubbing subscription nonsense, and I have been eagerly awaiting this one since it was announced. It isn't an MMO, but they want you to pay a monthly fee as if it is. Hellgate is closer to Guild Wars than WOW. Its pricing should be, too.
We all know games don't live up to the pre-release hype. How many times in the last 5 years has a game lived up to all the pre-release hype? So with that said, I'll expect the worse and hope for the best with this title. Don't get me wrong, I've been following the game since it was announced and have picked up the recently released book (have yet to read it yet though). I've just learned not to expect too much with games now days especially when patches are released on the same day as the game. I'm crossing my fingers that this one will ship with minimal bugs. We shall find out in less than 3 months though, can't wait.
Yes but is it just going to be a Diablo clone with spiffy graphics? I'll just wait for the first reviews of the retail release..........
This is either going to suck horribly or rock wonderfully, there is No middle ground with this one. I am hoping for the latter.
Game of the year! Even with the myriad of awesome releases nothing will even compare to Hellgate:London. You can go to hell gamespot for not putting in on your stupid poll. And you can stay there because of your terrible E307 interview w/ the hellgate devs. That was terrible.
diablo 2 was released in 2000. its still one of the most popular online games, and we are almost 8 years later. If Hellgate can live up to its expectations, then I think(and hope) that it will kill WoW. Hellgate is action, hellgate is RPG, hellgate is FPS, hellgate is MMO, hellgate is social, hellgate is never ending, hellgate is awesome, hellgate will be one of the best games of all time. Believe that'
i hope this date is final, im really looking forward to this game, i think this game might keep me satisfied till we get Fallout 3
