HD Resident Evil 4, Code: Veronica X spooking XBL, PSN

[UPDATE] High-def remastering of heralded installments in classic Capcom franchise for Sony's, Microsoft's console coming to North America this fall.

[UPDATE] This morning, Capcom officially announced it would be bringing Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil Code: Veronica X to North America on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. (This update corrects a previous Japanese report indicating Capcom's port would be of Resident Evil Code: Veronica.)

As previously reported, both games will be updated with high-definition graphics. However, rather than a boxed-product release, the two games will be offered as digital downloads through Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network this fall.

GameSpot's original story can be found below.

Resident Evil 4 may have begun life on Nintendo's GameCube in January 2005, but the highly acclaimed installment in Capcom's horror shooter franchise has made a slow creep to other platforms. By October 2005, the game appeared on the PlayStation 2, and it was subsequently released for the PC and Wii in mid-2007.

Now, it appears as if Capcom will be adding two more platforms to RE4's repertoire--in Japan, at least. Andria Sang reports today that Japanese magazine Famitsu has the first details on Resident Evil Revival Selection HD Remastered Version for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Release date information has not yet been revealed.

According to the English-language, Japan-centric site, RERSHDRV will be an HD update for the original RE4 and Resident Evil Code: Veronica X. The compilation pack will also reportedly include RE4's Another Order mode (known as Separate Ways in the US), which was exclusive to the Wii, PS2, and PC versions of the game.

Capcom has not yet announced a Western release for the Resident Evil HD update. The publisher had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment as of press time.

Tom Magrino has covered the games industry since 2006. He's been compared to Steve Martin by Ozzy Osbourne and Daniel Craig by Tim Schafer. His voice, heard largely on GameSpot's podcast, recalls that of Kermit the Frog. It ain't easy bein' Magreen.

hopefully there will be achievements for Xbox 360

I bought it twice for the PS2, and I also bought a copy for the wii. I wouldn't mind buying it for a fourth time.

rigzzsy 5 pts

i hope it still has 1000GS and not just 200 =[ and also that they don't change any gameplay

Very disappointed that Capcom have snubbed the chance to release Resident Evil Remake in full HD! I'm sure I speak for everyone here when I say that Resident Evil Remake is the best survival horror game ever made... Resident Evil 4 is the best Resident Evil title to combine all the aspects of action/adventure... but if your talking about true horror then Resident Evil: Remake is a winner hands down!

Weenski 5 pts

Is Europe likely to get this?? I nearly bought a PS2 the other day just for RE4

badlalo59 5 pts

Sweet look forward to this...always wondered what a HD version of this game would look like. The gameplay was awesome in this game and now it'll have graphics to match it!

arazmanaz 10 pts

Resident Evil 4 was and still is gaming perfection. Graphical re-hash yes, meddling with something that doesn't need fixing play wise, NO!!

PhazonBlazer 7 pts

I really hope they add alot of stuff to RE4.

Code Veronica is one of the few games I ever replayed, and probably at least four times. Now I wish I hadn't played it so much. I can't be as easilly suckered in since I've worn the game out, but... there's still a possibility...

rodimus2009 5 pts

Ugh why remake RE4 when it already looks fine... I need a RE2 remake already and a re-remake of RE1 with fixed cameras none of this over the shoulder bull.

Branmuffin316 11 pts

This is going to be the 4th or 5th time I've bought RE4 lol

WeskerLogan 5 pts

@ nick_manthe you are correct, the 2002 gamecube remake of resident evil is astoundingly good. even today

WeskerLogan 5 pts

remake the classic resident evils as co-op capcom! RE1 - Jill & Barry/Chris & Rebecca RE2 - Leon & Claire RE3 - Jill & Carlos RE4 - Leon & Ada

I hope Europe gets this too... :?

xboxaficionado 6 pts

I still have my copy of Code: Veronica for my Dreamcast, but... I know the X version has extra content plus now is on HD! Looks like a sure purchase if you ask me ;)

nick_manthe 16 pts

They shoud've made HD RE gamecube instead of code veronica

coylenintendo 5 pts

@hasansalamy your grammar is disappointing. and just simply hard to understand :P but calm down. there'll be a RE6 eventually, I'm hoping they take their time with the game. just as long as it comes out freaking amazing of course. but I only play Xbox 360 now so it would be pretty awesome to finally have a way to play RE4 on the 360 instead of having to play in on PS2. I don't have a Gamecube or Wii anymore but let's face it, aside from the extra side quest, the Gamecube version of RE4 was far better than the PS2 version.

g1rldraco7 44 pts

Well this tinks. i was expecting Resident Evil 5 for the wii.

hasansalamy 5 pts

what re4 again?? oh that realy disappointed because that capcom company spend effort and mony to make re4 again and forgeting there duty to developed re6

@zaiwen that sounds like a brilliant idea, can't wait!

rigzzsy 5 pts

@leviathanwing maybe, but it wouldn't get the same point across and you wouldn't have noticed so there wouldn't be this heat between us that there is now, so in the end i'm glad i said ten hundred thousand

@method115 Yeah i remember, that time RPG's had a great story and each one had a "similar" gameplay, and actions games always were different one another, but with a crappy story. Nowadays some action games have an interesting story (Gears of War, Deadly Premonition, Dead Space) and RPGs all have weird (bad) stories, but they're always different to play (Resonance of Fate must exemplify that)

kavadias1981 5 pts

I can see that a number of you disagree with my personal remark regarding my own choice. You are a wierd lot. Still, if you disagree then it must mean that you already own the above games too, yet are still going to re-purchase them. I have no respect for you. Just go and play them again and use your money to buy new games. If on the other hand you don't own them, well, enjoy. They are damn fine games.

Im lost is Res series coming to to buy in shops plz tell me

naryanrobinson 91 pts

I'm so glad RE4 is coming out in HD, it is possibly my favourite game ever. I didn't realise how much I liked it until I played RE5 (which sucked btw).

FallenOneX 35 pts

I've been waiting for more reasons to abuse the larger HD I got for Xmas, just tell me it's going to be less than $20. The DC may be old, but it wasn't that bad.

KimCheeWarriorX 5 pts

thisll be the first time ive had a chance to play resident evil code veronica since the original sega dreamcast version. ill probably get it just for nostalgic value since its hard to come by dreamcast games these days. hopefully they wont ask for more than $15 for it. as for re4, wasnt a huge fan of it, i personally wish theyd bring back the classic zombies instead of all this majini nonsense but until then, recv hd will have to do.

method115 17 pts

@Raxyman It doesn't sound stupid believe me. What sounds dumb is exactly what they did, don't know how anyone at Capcom said yes that's a good ending. It reminded me of the SNES/Sega console days were games were fun but had horrible endings. Hell the stories were horrible really, at least for action games. RPG's were good of course.

collinmul 12 pts

"...the two games will be offered as digital downloads..." Notice the "s" in downloads; plural. More than one. Does this mean that each game will be offered independently? Or are they being bundled together as one download? Wonder if they'll offer something like $20 a piece or both for $30...? Time will tell, I guess.

Rovelius 18 pts

Damn, so many good times this fall.

youngsexynerd@ How about a new RE side story game with Chris and Leon? With Leon's good looks and Chris's boulder punching skills, unstoppable team!

Animatronic64 137 pts

I have it on the Wii, but I'll be getting this for the PS3. I can't stand 480i/p anymore.

IndianaPwns39 10 pts

I finished Resident Evil 4 roughly 100 times. Looks like its time for 101!

Sigil-otaku 27 pts

@beanofengland I agree, that was a proper remake that I purchased right away and found surprises round old corridors but compare that to a slight sharper graphics and you've got a rather lazy port in my opinion. In the end that's why the resident evil 1 remake was able to sell for more than both of these games will packaged together. I can't stand these lazy HD cash ins.

Nihonjinjanai 5 pts

I would also like to see an HD bundle of Resident Evil Remake and RE: Zero.

tarikm92f 5 pts

my dream is coming true. RE4 is the best game ever created and now it's about to get even better. thanks!

beanofengland 12 pts

makes me want to play the resident evil remake on the GameCube, now THAT is how you remake a classic

kavadias1981 5 pts

I already own them both so no thanks.

oneligas 7 pts

Resident Evil should be renamed Rerelease Evil due to the fact that every Resident Evil has been remastered, remixed or just rereleased at least once. im not complaining just stating the facts about a zombie franchise that lives like a zombie its self

thegamegod 6 pts

epic :D never played code veronica, but ill be buying both, this year is amazing for games
