High-definition remakes of iconic Japanese action games coming to PS3 this year; includes reduced load times.

Sega today announced through Japanese magazine Famitsu that high-definition remastered versions of Yakuza 1 and 2 will be released this year as a bundle. According to website Andriasang, the collection will be out on November 1 in Japan for the PlayStation 3.

While updated visuals for both previously-released PS2 games are expected, players will also experience reduced load times, and the ability to manage their inventory items through phone booths around the city. Customers who pre-order the game will receive a bonus clear folder featuring the Japanese box art for Yakuza 1 and Yakuza 2.

The set will be priced at 5,290 yen ($67), though there is currently no confirmation on whether the package will be available solely as a digital release on the PlayStation Network store, or as a retail product.

For more information on Yakuza 1 and 2, check out the GameSpot reviews here and here.

 @Q-abs Unless they use the original Japanese VA for the first one (w/ subs). The dubbing of it was atrocious......w/ the only exception of the dude that did Kiryuu's voice and Mark Hamill doing Majima (which was surprising decent and nailed w/ how Japanese VA does him).

But that's not something I'd necessarily want to tolerate playing through again, lol. I've grown more accustomed to the Japanese voice acting. Keeps you more in the vibe of the game.

I ended up loaning my copies of Y1 and 2 to a friend since I never played them. Though an HD remake would give me reason to play them. Hope we get it in the states.

 @PumpkinBoogie How many people you know would buy it?

 @LindBergh2007 LOL, have you even looked at the other comments??

You wouldn't need to ask such a question if you realized that since Yakuza 1 (and other than 2 side games) that all the subsequent games have been localized and released here (and other Western territories).

We may be a niche crowd, but unlike Capcom, Sega took a chance--and listen to fans--to give the series a chance in the Western market.

HD and an improvement of load times and implementation of convenient features like phone booth item management from the sequels? More HD remakes should do stuff like that.

I get confused when they say "HD" and "remake." So just a 1080p version of the PS2 classic? Or an actual graphics overhaul remake ala Resident Evil 1 in 2002?

I've always wanted to get into the Yakuza series, but I wanted to start from the beginning and the first one being on PS2 was kind of a barrier. This will really help, especially now that I live in Japan and can understand the writing a lot better than I could even a few months ago.

Uh-- oh hell yes!I always wanted to play the first 2, but before I knew it, we were in the next gen and I didn't have enough incentive to pick them up. Man these HD remakes are getting more and more convenient.

Enough with the remakes already. I will always like video games way more than movies, but they both seem to be remaking everything under the sun. I guess it doesn't have an effect on me either way, but I just felt the need to speak my mind.

 @tightwad34

 I think this falls under a "re-release" rather than a remake. I see as a a film being available in blu-ray compared to VHS/ DVD only. Although I can understand your annoyance with it, it's a nice way to keep gaming history intact. For example, if watching Star Wars was exclusive to VHS for example I'd pretty damn pissed.
