HBO, Xfinity, MLB apps hit Xbox Live

Fanboyism is for chumps. You can't tell me there isn't at least 1 or 2 games on each system that you would want to play. No, I'm not thrilled about paying for Xbox Live, but if $10 a month is too much for you, how are you able to afford to play games in the first place? I own all three systems and a PC. I'll just kick back and play some Mass Effect 3 while the kids argue about which system *pwns*.

I love what the xbox 360 has become in 2012. 6 years ago, you could have only watched dvd's trailers, listen to music through CD's or ipods. Now we can watch netflix, sports, HBO, xfinity, zune, last fm. Man technology is sure scary.

I get why so many hardcore fanboys come on xbox topics and bang on their chests screaming "Xbox is sh**, RROD (years ago), exclusives, blu-ray ect ect" - Insecurity about their own system. Dont get me wrong, I like my PS3, and will be playing it alot more when dust 514 comes out (still need to play Uncharted 3)...but im going to use the phrase that PS3 fanboys despise against them "you get what you pay for" - and with the PS3 it shows by how bad the interface is, buggy the browser and services are (so...many..crashes and patches!). Yes playstation now has a membership scheme, but thats because sony needs that income and knows that the hardcore ps3 players would play for it, and the option to have a free online experience (without features that should be standard across the board) for those who would kick off and probably join XBL. The excuse that "its free" is redudendant as it deffo shows what you get out of it - barely anything. It saves me money though as I pay for the very cheap XBL subscription service as well. I might sound like a fanboy, but Im simply sticking up for it as I got it before the PS3 - And if the PS3 was better, then I probably wouldnt be stating all these facts. Just chillout and play your games :)

I'm not subscribing to any of that stuff. I wish Microsoft would remove the apps from under the XBox Live Gold membership and put it until the Silver membership. Gamers should have to pay twice to use Netflix or Hulu Plus. It's stupid. I have "Crackle" on my Sony HDTV at home. tons of movies, Anime, TV Show and specials galore. All for FREE.

PiP would be sweet -- just make it controlled by the pop-up Xbox button (size, position, stream it's tuned to, etc.).. Kind of like the always-excellent built-in network audio streamer (which I still use after all these years), but for authenticated video feeds.

I have been waiting for Comcast and HBOGO (say "Huh-Bow-Go"). Having all the HBO shows on demand is awesome. You know, for the times I'm not gaming Why is it so hard for some people to believe you can enjoy gaming AND something else on a console? It's okay, you know. And if you don't ever watch a movie or show or ESPN broadcast, it doesn't make you more hardcore. It just makes you close-minded. I like having the option. Good stuff.

dam xbox are sooo pathetic sometimes and lives in denial..you guyz still think u outselling the ps3 while its not the case at all...the ps3 outsells the xbox for 4 years deal with it alrady....usa is not the center of the world. If he's happy about his PS3 so be it, but he doesn't have to come up here on a topic about the 360 just to say how much he dislikes it. Ugghh...........fanboys. He said he would never by a Microsoft console. I think the PC he uses probably has Windows on it, unless he's running a Mac, or Linux. What if Sony were to bow out of the console business? PSN better be free because it is pretty bad. Having both systems I regularly get on Live and PSN, and PSN is definitely inferior in almost every way. And thats sorta acceptable since its free. Live is definitely worth is meager annual fee. That $5 a month sure makes for a better service.

I have a ps3 and an xbox but I only use my pd3 for blu-ray movies. I play games on my Xbox. :)

There is no Competition between Sony and Microsoft cause Sony has always been the Dominating one. Sony has better Exclusives and many compared to MS. All MS ever did for the Gamers hate MS for the whole RROD Fiasco. That's why I don't trust them anymore. When 360 debuted I chose 360 over PS3 and how wrong I was. I suffered 4 RRODs over 2 years. 1 Console I bought and 2 Replacements. They all RROD over the first 2 yrs 360 was on the market. I got tired of shipping em to MS everytime 1 would RROD so I left MS. I have had a PS3 for 4 years and have had no issues with my 40GB. I'm quite happy and will never buy a Microsoft console ever again. I will be buying a PS4 and will gladly pay $1000. I paid $600 for my 40GB. MS released the 360 knowing fully well it had issues and they released it anyway.

@jasonlc3221 I'm glad both of them, or should I say all the major console companies are in the industry. While I prefer my 360 I don't wish for Sony to be banished from the game market. There are several games I enjoy on the PS3 and I also think Sony is a very key player in the game industry. I agree with you, this competition is good for the market, and we as gamers benefit. No need to form alliances and swear allegiance to one console or the other, just get the best games each has to offer and move on.

I posted because you said "They think these 3 Exclusives (5 actually, Halo, Forza, Gears of War, Crackdown, and Fable) are all they need. MS thinks there (misspelled, should be "they're") better than Sony... Please." To be honest, you and several other closed-minded people are the only ones that believe "MS thinks they're better than Sony." MS is only trying to be competitive. I'm pretty sure they know that Sony isn't leaving the industry anytime soon, so they are just always trying to create new ideas to garner more attention, and that doesn't always necessarily mean it's going to be \NEW EXCLUSIVE GAME ONLY ON XBOX. It's called "a profit-making business." You obviously have some kind of issue with MS. Sorry to hear about that. I, on the other hand, enjoy the best of ALL worlds. I enjoy my PS3 just as much as my 360. You might want to think about this next sentence a little harder: When there's competition in a business world, it's ALWAYS a win-win for the consumers.

Cool, even though I'll never use it. And oh no! I have to pay $30 a year for lagfree online play on my Xbox! (Yes, because there are places you can buy XBL yearly passes for less than $60). The only time you get lag is usually due to your own internet issues. On a side note, how many times has XBL been down? Or confidential information accessed?

Is MS double dipping? Yeah, they certainly are. Does this make them the scum of the Earth? Not really. $60 a year... what is that, really? That's like $5 a month, and so far this year you can find 12 month subscriptions for $30-$40. In fact, I haven't paid full price for XBL Gold since way back in 2006. And even if I did, I get $60 worth of use out of my ESPN app. Personally, I think MS should sell more advertising and make their Silver membership include the use of all these app services and cut all advertisements out of Gold. But it is what it is. I'm as much for consumers as anybody, actually more than most, but come on... Xbox Live Gold is certainly not a rip-off.

@BryanParksSuper Just curious. How do you know who does or doesn't have Playstation Plus? Have you done a survey?

@shadowhunter0 Where did I say I enjoy watching something that requires me to pay for two services? I stated I am enjoying HBOGO on the 360. It does require that "some" people have to pay for 2 services, but not not me. I wouldn't really say I would enjoy paying for something twice. Look, Sony has done a great job of trying to keep their online free, and I applaud them for that, but they also know that they are losing a big chunk of potential profit by not charging a small fee, which would help off balance the cost of maintenance for their network. I would say that's why they implemented Playstation Plus. I think we will see a PSN that charges it's users on their next platform.It's not what I want, but it seems like it's becoming the norm. I watch Netflix on my PS3, as well as other free programming. I already have Xbox LIve Gold, so everything else they provide is a plus, although I do think services like HBOGO should be free for Xbox Live Gold members. We'll see, hopefully things will change, but I doubt it. If I didn't have so many friends on Xbox Live, like achievements, their exclusives, and prefer that controller things may be different. Until then I guess I'll continue to pay for Xbox Live and get HBOGO for FREE.

@Vodoo Most people don't have PSN Plus and they don't want it. Microsoft fails to comeup with new Exclusives and they are heavily supporting Kinect which is pretty much a alternative to the Wii. It's been almost 8 years and all MS has for Exclusives are Halo,Forza and Gears. That's pretty sad if I ask me. Sony is thriving everyday and coming out with new Exclusives. Why hasent MS done the same. Oohhhhh I know it's because they don't want to. They think these 3 Exclusives are all they need. MS thinks there better than Sony... Please.

Xbox Live is a huge ripoff. Sorry it's True. Sony offers PSN for Free. Microsoft should take notes from Sony. You don't have to charge people just to play Online. MS charges people for Live cause they can't make up $$$ any other way. Sony can because they have like 15 Exclusives that bring in $$$ so they dont need to charge PSN. MS has no choice but to charge for Live. MS invests in these all Services like mentioned in the article do they have no $$$ to make new Exclusives. Face it MS will fail if they comeuppance with new Exclusives.

Xbox LIVE is a rip off. I have to pay Netflix AND Microsoft to watch Netflix on my xbox? No way! I'll stick to the PS3 for my video-watching-entertainment.

@shadowhunter0 I see you like putting words in my mouth. Where did I say I love paying for 2 services?? My wife works for Direct TV, therefore I get all that for free, then all she has to do is log in with her password for HBOGO on my Xbox. Plain and simple. So, while I may not want to pay for 2 services, if I did have a paid subscription to HBO, and Xbox LIve Gold, why not enjoy the benefits. But then again, I don't, so please don't go assuming you know others preferences, or what they enjoy paying for.

Winner of several awards from the Independent Games Festival right there is proof that psn has indie games so that statement is false xbl streams 95% of its content is also false since you still have to download games and games is what makes up most of the content and psn doesn't force you to download everything music unlimited comes to mind you download the app but that is it and you can choose to download it or not but the music is all streamed same with all the video apps that is on it and just because it is streamed doesn't make it better so only thing that is left are demos and who really cares that xbl has more demos which doesn't fully represent the games anyways it is better to either rent the game out or buy it and there are allot of demos on psn and most games have a demo for it on psn btw xbl and psn are pretty much equal they both have their advantages and advantages but they are pretty my equal when you add it all together and the only reason why think it is better is because you are paying for it and just because you pay for it doesn't make it better and they are both acting like kids and just because someone calls anther person a kid doesn't make them a kid

It's pretty clear to me now that the majority of people really don't care about playing games anymore on their game console. As long as they can watch Game of Thrones on their xboxes, who cares about the games. It's all good. This is why I like Sony and Nintendo. They are about the games!

@BryanParksSuper... FYI... I have had Xbox Live going on 10 years, since it first came out. I've NEVER paid full price for a 12-month subscription. Amazon always sells a year for $36, which is what I usually buy, and last year it cost me $29 from a sale by Microsoft. I also have PSN PLUS. I pay more for Sonys' online service then Microsofts'. Xbox Live has free demos of EVERYTHING!! Any game you can buy off Xbox Live, including Indie games (which PSN doesn't offer either), has a free demo to try the game. PSN offers very limited demos. Also on PSN you're forced to download EVERYTHING. Xbox Live streams 95% of their content. The ONLY bonus for PSN, and it's only available to PSN PLUS members, is the free games every month and discounts on most things you can buy. Xbox Live only offers select discounts and no games are free. But overall Xbox Live is a much better online service whether you like it or not. It's a fact. So what if it costs me $36 a year. Noone is gonna go broke trying to afford that. And btw... the only people who call other people "kid" are KIDS.

Oh, how the Xbox has evolved...I really dont see the problem with the apps really. Its not like they make you pay for a subscription for any of it, or make you download them unless you want to. And why are we talking about Sony on a Xbox news section?

well considering I don't have a cable box in the room where my xbox is, and I can STILL watch xfinity TV on my 360 is pretty freakin sweet.

Love my Xbox. Love HBO. I have Comcast cable. Sadly, Comcast isn't supporting HBO Go on XBox at the moment. I even emailed their customer service to make sure... they wrote back a vague "We support lots of our partners apps on lots of platforms with more coming every day"... I suspect the fact that Comcast having a competing app in their Xfinity TV app for Xbox may have something to do with this. I don't know if it means they won't support HBO Go on Xbox at all, or if their support has just been delayed while focusing on their own Xbox app.?

Comcast isn't listed as a supported carrier on HBO GO app and the Xfinity app won't authenticate. Cable box works though.

I have Fios and already have the Fios app....I don't get why I would watch TV on my Xbox. Is the goal to replace the cable box?
