Two weeks after it ruled out Rock Band 4 in 2011, the Boston-area developer confirms it will use annual expo to unveil its latest title.
There may not be a Rock Band 4 in 2011, but there will be a new Harmonix game announced at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo. The Boston-based developer today sent out invitations to its annual party at the event, which it will use to "celebrate the announcement of our latest title." No further details were given.
Harmonix's revelation comes two weeks after its vice president of strategy and business development, Chris Rigopulos, said that Rock Band 4 would not come out this year. "Rock Band 3 is a big game with lots of available music content and lots of new goals and challenges. We want to give our fans the time to explore that fully," he told Game Informer.
However, Rigopulos also hinted at new projects during the interview, saying, "Rest assured that Harmonix is still developing new ideas and concepts to advance the Rock Band franchise, and we look forward to sharing those when the time is right."
One possibility is that the game that will be announced at E3 will be another band-specific title in the vein of The Beatles: Rock Band or the AC/DC Live: Rock Band Track Pack. The last such offering, Green Day: Rock Band, was released last June. Another possibility is a sequel to the popular Kinect game Dance Central, which has sold more than 2.5 million units.
@mejv they already had Guitar Hero Metallica, and when a band signs with Activision they basically sell there souls to em, so don't count on any more Metallica in Rockband.
@ShiningV67 are you freaking kidding me? "Led Zep should definitively be a "Track Pack". Disturbed could be a full game." Disturbed should be tossed in a garbage can. There hasn't been one Led Zeppelin song on rockband and there is already like 6 Disturbed songs. I would play Led Zeppelin Rockband if it came out, but I would disown Harmonix if they considered idiotic ideas like yours.
they are making a new game???? not another rock band or guitar hero??? this could be the shock of E3!!!
Didn't they say they were making a Pearl Jam Rock Band like a year ago? They had all the fans on the official PJ site choose the best live versions of the songs that were gonna be in the game. It was gonna be in the same vein as the ACDC one, unless the've been mum on it cause they're gonna expand to a full deal... or it was cancelled.
Vuvzela Band! I hope they have BZZZZZZZZ, and BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, and my most favorite BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!
@jdog1205, springsteen is a dlc, not its own game, thanks in large to every song sounding identical.
You all have some nice suggestions. Led Zep should definitively be a "Track Pack". Disturbed could be a full game. Springsteen should be a DLC. But with the Scorpions going into retirement in 2011 or 2012, I think this calls for a tribute game to go out in style! With albums spanning over almost 40 years, there's a lot that could fit into a full game, with additional DLC to complete the experience. If not, then at least Scorpions: World Wide Live Track Pack (live recording from 1985).
@parrot_of_adun Well, I say do what you are good at. We wouldn't want Bethesda to change and start doing squat-based shooters, would we? Or EA to start doing a good football game (ha!)
@controlfreak25 I hope to God that happens but sadly around 10 of Disturbed's sings are alrteady in RB and they only have a total number of 61 songs (not in cluding the cover's of songs they've done no matter how awesome they are)... which leaves us with 52 which I don't think is enough for a full game... maybe put some System of a Down with that package? I'd buy it either way
I wonder if they're capable of anything but rhythm games. I suppose they likely don't to do anything else, but I still wonder...
I've always wanted them to put a Pink Floyd song like, "Comfortably Numb" on Rock Band. With the keyboard addition, they just are begging to be on there.
Zeppelin:Rock Band? it could be possible, since there was a rumor a while back where Jimmy Page was actually in negotiations with Harmonix about a band specific game, so it might come to fruition
Dance central 2 is already known to be in production. Microsoft is helping fund it too. My guess is this is what they are going to be announcing. Glad to see Harmonix will continue their tradition of making a good showing at e3 even after going indy :)
i honestly think music games are too overrated and boring now, i loved GH 1-3 and RB1-2 but im so bored of them now
@Dalan I dunno. The 3DS has cameras, but I don't know if they would be able to track the motion accurately. They might make it like DDR for iPhone, but Harmonix wouldn't want to make a clone of another game. That's for Activision to do. :P I very much doubt that it'll be Dance Central, but I listed it anyway.
"Rock Band 4 would not come out this year.(We have milked it already enough) There is a new cow in town (DC) and we are committed to do as much as possible to leave it as dry and empty as our originality."
Harmonix were on that list of developers for the 3DS, so I'd say it's most likely going to be a 3DS title. I just want to know... Will it be a Rock Band game, a Dance Central game, a revisit to Frequency/Amplitude, or a completely new game? We'll have to wait and see...
I hope it will be about FLAMENCO GUITAR and the title will be El-Mariachi !!! But I guess my dream will never come.....
