343 Industries offering advance play window for upcoming multiplayer changes; Headlong map coming to Anniversary.
Halo fans still have a solid two months to go before Microsoft releases its Combat Evolved revamp. Good news, then, that 343 Industries also continues to hone the Bungie-developed Halo: Reach. Today, Microsoft announced that beta playlists for the upcoming Halo: Reach title update will be available to Xbox Live Gold members who own the game beginning October 4.
First announced at last month's 2011 PAX Prime, the title update brings with it a number of updates to Halo: Reach's online multiplayer modes. Among these changes are the addition of Halo: CE's magnum pistol, a rebalancing of armor abilities, and the introduction of classic playlists.
The title update will exit beta alongside the launch of Halo: CE Anniversary on November 15. As for that launch, Microsoft confirmed today that Halo 2's Breakneck multiplayer map will be reinvented and included in the Anniversary package. Renamed Headlong, the large-sized map accommodates 8 to 16 players and features the ruined cityscape of New Mombasa.
I noticed "Zero Bloom Slayer." Meh, I was fine with bloom in Reach. Stuff like that doesn't really bother me, I just go with the flow. I would like to see Sidewinder eventually return though. I miss that map.
Mr. Magrino, your text reads ..."Halo 2's Breakneck multiplayer map...Renamed Headlong..." It should read the other way around--Headlong was the map's name in Halo 2, whereas Breakneck is the map's name in Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. You should fix this.
The new maps look nice, and the fact that they will have 2 playlists. So Reachs new gameplay (little-to-no bloom and adjusted AL) can be played on its own playlist and original reach gameplay on the other. Installation 04 Firefight just can't wait.
@SolidTy 343 have Bungie's blessing, don't expect them to turn Halo into "Spartan of Duty 3: Modern Space Battles" any time soon
@UnSe3N By classic they mean the gameplay will be closer to H2/H1 style on classic maps. I don't think they're bringing back 1-50
If by "classic playlists" they mean real halo 2 or halo 3 styled ranked playlists, then I'll start actually playing halo again.
@snake2215449 I agree with the first part of your post however drop in/drop out would not work well for halo. Far less people quit on halo than on CoD simply to the fact that they know that they will not get replaced meaning less host migrations. Also it would make it very hard to track games on bungie.net and make the trueskill system not work at all. OT: really looking forward to this update. No bloom FTW.
yes snake i agree. Give us classic slayer with sprint only back!!! PLEASE. The noob lock has got to go and flying and oh wait just give us sprint. Less is more bungie less is more. Halo 2 mp still by far the best of the halo series.
Thank God someone is fixing this game, Bungie did a horrible job and 343 has to clean up the mess. Armor abilities really made noobs stand up to pros which shouldn't be the case. I also hope that they let matchmaking players join within a game after someone leaves the game to balance out the players, another annoying and frustrating aspect of the game that needs to be fixed.
I love it when people say things like "armor abilities killed the game" because they're in every game mode. oh wait, no they aren't. just like everything else in Halo, you can modify the settings in custom matches, or simply play in "classic" modes in matchmaking. see? problem solved.
The fact that Tom says that Breakneck is the name from Halo 2 and Headlong is the remake's name has made me very sad. It's as if people are forgetting part of my childhood. :[
Haven't been a fan of Halo multiplayer since Halo 2, and Headlong was one of my favorite maps. Good news for Reach players.
I didn't even know they were doing a sort of beta for the game. Pretty good news, I might check it out. If my console wifi will stay online long enough to try it. >>
