Halo: Reach #1 US game SKU of 2010 - NPD
Industry-research firm releases list of top 10 game products through September 30; Bungie's shooter best-selling solo game product, followed by New Super Mario Bros. Wii, 360 Red Dead Redemption.
In September, the NPD Group changed its top software 10 list to reflect not individual products, but the combined total of games over all platforms. However, for the year to date, the company has released its top 10 list of SKUs (stock keeping units), which list the top 10 single game products of the year through September 30.
Unsurprisingly, atop the chart sat Halo: Reach, as the Xbox 360-exclusive game sold 3.3 million units domestically in just two weeks. That total was a sizable chunk of the $200 million the Bungie-developed game generated in its first 24 hours in the US and Europe during its first day on sale.
In second place on the chart, which did not provide unit totals, was another platform exclusive, New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Indeed, Nintendo platform exclusives dominated the chart, taking up five of the 10 slots. In fourth place was Pokemon Soulsilver for the DS, followed in fifth by Super Mario Galaxy 2 for the Wii and sixth by Wii Fit Plus. Ubisoft's Wii-only Just Dance landed in ninth, just above the Wii MotionPlus-bundled Wii Sports Resort.
As for the rest of the list, the Xbox 360 edition of Red Dead Redemption held up third place, with the PlayStation 3 version not making the top 10. The PS3-exclusive God of War III finished in seventh place, just above the Xbox 360 version of last year's top game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
