I would love to use the Warthog in an online race... if you get overtaken by a Bugatti Veyron.. just shoot the hell out of it as it passes by! lol! Would the car damage show bullet holes?
Turn 10 confirms sci-fi shooter's iconic all-terrain vehicle will appear in Kinect-enabled Autovista mode.
One of the ways in which Turn 10 is incorporating the Kinect into its upcoming simulation racer Forza 4 is through the Autovista mode. And while Turn 10 plans to reserve this mode largely for cars gamers wouldn't normally see on the streets, it will include at least one crossover, though not of the sports utility kind.
At a 343 Industries event last night, Turn 10 head Dan Greenawalt confirmed that Halo 4's Warthog will make an appearance in Forza 4 as part of the Autovista mode. Unfortunately, the Warthog will be limited to the mode, meaning it will not be drivable in the game.
Forza 4's Autovista mode lets gamers take an up-close look at a handful of vehicles in the game. Using the Kinect sensor or a gamepad, players can zoom in on vehicles to see intricate detail work as well as activate information voice-over nodes that detail the specs and history of the car. Gamers can also hop inside the vehicles to give their engines a rev.
As it pertains to Halo 4's Warthog, Cortana will provide the voice-over work, detailing such particulars as top speed (78 miles per hour, irrespective of terrain, for those wondering) and how many rounds the back turret can fire off. Greenawalt said that the Warthog's specifications were all taken from Halo lore and that 343 Industries provided the writing.
Gamers will apparently have to work to unlock the Warthog, with Greenawalt referring to the vehicle as an Easter egg that will be difficult to obtain.
Forza 4 will be available exclusively for the Xbox 360 on October 11. Halo 4 has not yet been dated. For more on Turn 10's racer, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
Why not make it drivable? In the Halo games we only get to see it in third person or outside the vehicle, it would be nice to actually drive the thing first person around a race track no matter how impractical it is..... It's sad really because when Forza 3 added trucks and SUV's I didn't really drive any of them any more than I had to and now the one SUV I wouldn't mind driving I can't........It frackin' figures...
I'm more of a GT guy but I have to say this is nice, a shame Polyphony and Sony didn't catch on to the idea and do something with Killzone's buggy or Nathan Drakes jeep; they certainly missed a trick there. Turn 10 certainly didn't though, nice addition. Why you can't actually use it boggles the mind, it's a nice cameo but it'd be nice to actually use it.
I don't understand why everyone is so negative. I actually like it. If you don't like it don't use it or look at it.
This is cool yet unprofessional of T10 to put it in such a game , I think that it would have been cooler if they used a real worthog like military Hummer.
If the game were 'off road', I think they would have included it. But on pavement, it just wouldn't be competitive and feel right.
A Warthog in a driving game, but it's not drivable... um. Ok. What's next? Let's put Master Chief in a fighting game, but not let him actually fight.
I'm a huge fan of forza being a racing game about real cars and all..... but this still needs to be a drivable car. What the hell turn10????? Still one of my favorite game devs though.
I agree, I'd love for this to be driveable, even if just in a practice mode. Who wouldn't want to see how fast the Warthog could go on the Top Gear Test Track? If enough people (politely) talk up the idea, I'd wager this may hit as DLC in the near future.
@TomM_GScom Did you know the real Warthog (from Weta Workshop) is in Seattle at the moment for HaloFest?
Whats the point of having it in the game when you cant drive it? Why the hell is this news!? AND WHERE ARE MY PANTS!
OOOOK. That's cool and all but I'm sure it isn't going to be that fast. Maybe they'll let you unload the machine gun on the back, and wreck havoc. That would be nice!!
you would think it would look photo realistic. needs scratches and stuff make it look like it went threw a war, not LA auto show.
Gamers would never be able to get over it if this Halo 4 warthog was a DLC for $2.99 that was "coming first to Xbox Live" and then 3 months later over to PS3 and PC. Why can't gamers fill the warm, leather executive chairs of these crappy corporate snakes? We'd cater the industry to the needs and wants of our own, not to business models!
Got excited at first, but not drivable = Fail Put more effort to getting those many Porsches you promised back in, then ill take a gander at that hog...
I'd love to see Turn 10 make an off-road franchise. The Dirt series is great, but I'd love to see T10's take on the sport.
All I want to know is when H4 comes out and one what console. At first I figured this was an obvious lock for the Nextbox-perfect launch title for a new console; if not, at least 3 years before the next one and that's a long time, but it sounds more and more like it will come out on the 360.
Would be worth it for one solitary fact: Jeremy Clarkson does the voiceover: "This can go a MILLION mph over dead corpses!!!"
Wish we could drive it and race it again other Warthogs. Now that would be cool. Knowing you can't drive it, make me not want to go crazy trying to unlock it.
It will be cool if you can actually drive this on the track with a couple of friends shooting at the Ferraris trying to get ahead of you :P But it will completely ruin the realism of the game as well as the ESRB Rating :P
In order to drive it i think they will ask you to purchase some dlc. As it is an easter egg it's stupid revealing it, better keep it hidden.
@DualSMG14 autovista mode can be accessed using the standard controller. therefore no need to get a kinect.
