Halo 4 'addiction' rewarded with MS points

Xbox Live Rewards members can score free points for logging at least 35 hours of online play, or by spending at least $18.75 on Halo items by November 30.

Halo 4 players who log enough hours in the game's multiplayer department or spend enough money on Halo-related items will be rewarded for doing so. Microsoft has announced a new "Halo 4 Combat Tour" offer that gives Xbox Live Rewards members the opportunity to score as many as 800 MS points just for playing 343 Industries' new shooter.

"Are you ready to put your Halo addiction to good use?" reads a line from the promotion.

Gamers who play 35 or more hours of Halo 4 multiplayer by November 30 will receive 100 MS points ($1.25). Those who log 70 or more hours will score 300 MS points ($3.75), while those who spend 140 or more hours in Halo 4's multiplayer will receive 600 MS points ($7.50) for doing so.

Additionally, players who spend 3,000 MS points ($37.50) on Halo-related Xbox Live marketplace content will get 200 MS points ($2.50) back, while those who spend 1,500 MS points ($18.75) on Halo items will get 100 MS points ($1.25) in return.

This is not the only promotion that rewards Halo 4 gamers for playing. Eligible American Express card holders can receive a $25 statement credit for completing the game's campaign on normal or harder difficulty.

well if multiplayer is good, i dont the see those "achievemnts" to hard to get, at least not for the forever alone and no life players

In my opinion, more games need to do this, especially since we pay a lot of money for them. This could be the new "Achievements/trophies". :)

what's with the insane push in multi player ? "candy"-reward for staying on buttonmash mode ... sounds like multi player heaven is in trouble if they have to use the proverbial carrot in front of the donkey to keep the players long enough on-line to make it worth it. what ever is happening in the game world, one wonders ! where are the innovative brandnew fresh ideas ?

Ha...funny...people are going to rack up MASSIVE amounts of playing time anyway...no harm in a little reward. People need to get off their "high horse" and just play the games. F***in' whiners these days...

I know a guy who bought some Cases of Halo Mnt. Dew so he can Rot his teeth some more he already has partials and he's in his mid 20s. So basically Halo rots your teeth.

 @Killer6b9 Probably because of the enormous expenses that it took to produce the game.  Honestly, I don't think there are that many people out there that had no intention of buying the game until this promo.

 

It doesn't add up for someone that didn't want to play it, to now go, "Oh neato!  I can spend 60 bucks to earn 7.50!"  A promo like this works out for those that already had intentions of picking up the game, and it gives you MS points which are only redeemable where.....you guessed it.

 

Think of it like a coupon to a grocery store.  You can only use it at that store, so chances are, you are going to use the coupon as well as spend some extra money along with it.  It is marketing, not free money.

 @ZOD777 I was more referring to the other incentives such as the American Express cash back of $25....the $50 Best Buy gift card....The first 30 US/UK players to beat it get a free trip to E3 in 2013....and now this.....just never see that with any other games, just saying.....here is the site that shows the details in case I seem to be the only one who knows about it....

 @kierwinyoung If it required you to play for 140 STRAIGHT hours, then I'd think it was a ploy by MS to destroy your 360 so you'd have to buy a new one.

The incentives are a good idea for the hours but lousy for spending on their content downloads.

They probably just want Halo 4 to show up as the #1 most played game on XBLA.  It would look bad if it came out only to be less played than CoD or something.

 

Also, it's kind of like advertising the game to your friends on XBLA because they'd see you playing it.

I think this is a great idea! Even though Xbox Live Rewards does not need do to this at all to keep me interested, I will not look a gift-horse in the mouth!

 @dkdk999 To reach 35 hours, many people will have to pay to play multiplayer, as you can only play it for 2 weeks before you have to pay.

If you started today,  you would need to log nearly 6 hours a day to reach 140h.  That is absurd.

 @flammable_zeus You either have to be unemployed, or have no social life whatsoever in order to reach 140h in that time span.  I guess a child could, but that would be terrible parenting for one, and two, it is an M rated game anyway.  I don't really think that MS is intentionally targeting children, but are just trying to drum up additional sales (as if they need to).

 @ZOD777 It might be M, but I have a feeling that it's aimed at the younger crowd either way. Look at CoD, clearly aimed at children despite the theme of the games. Bit disgusting of them, really. But yeah, no reasonable human could get that much time played in that span. It's just a way to get more LIVE subscriptions.

To those complaining, this is not dangerous or unhealthy if you plan it well. Take regular breaks and have proper discretion. If you abuse your gaming time, then that's your fault. I say it is good that they giving SOMETHING back. Better than nothing.

So people have to pay for Xbox Live with real money to get "paid" Microsoft points as a reward? They're funny people, Microsoft. You'd never catch me paying just to play the multiplayer of a game I paid full price for. Unless it's an MMO, and even then it would have to really be worth it.

 @COLDFIRE25 Well they're not actually providing anything, just allowing me to play my own games (which I've already paid for.)I know for SOME games they provide official servers, but that's not been the case for any game's I've played. I've paid $1 for a gold month before, as well as had 2 free months. All they do is expect me to host or to join some other crappy connection. Then there's the fact that I don't even feel like playing multiplayer all of the time. Should I have to pay $20 to play multiplayer for a couple of hours? Most of my online play is on PC with better connections and without additional cost. MMOs are VERY different in that when you play, you have to play on the same official server as thousands of other people, that's the whole point of MMOs. Somebody has to pay to keep that service running as well as provide extra content every couple of months.dlCHIEF58 has a good point. I didn't realise you get 2 free weeks with this (although I don't know anybody who has 35 hours to play Halo multiplayer over 2 weeks.) It's clearly still promoting people paying for extra time, even if you can technically get away without doing so.
