The Halo 3: Recon saga now has yet another chapter. After being rumored, teased, pulled from E3 2008, reteased and then (finally) announced at last month's Tokyo Game Show, the game has now been retitled. It will be henceforth referred to as Halo 3: ODST, after the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers which it focuses on.
One of three projects the now-independent Bungie has in the pipe, Halo 3: ODST is set between the events of Halo 2 and Halo 3. Specifically, it's set during the invasion of the African city of New Mombasa by the Covenant, the pan-species army of religious fanatics on a crusade to exterminate humanity. Players will first don the boots, helmet, and armor of an ODST--called "The Rookie"--in search for his squadmates after their unit is scattered. According to the latest issue of Game Informer, he discovers their locator beacons in the ruins of New Mombasa, at which point the game flashes back to show the squadmates' stories--in playable form.
Though it will sport new multiplayer modes and a single-player campaign that will yield 1,000 Xbox 360 gamer points, Halo 3: ODST won't be a full-fledged game. Bungie is touting the game as an "expansion," and told Game Informer that its campaign will run only three to five hours--and shouldn't cost $60. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
I am a huge fan of 360 yet I dont own Halo 3... :o But i do own Fable 2 and Gears so yea, missing out on Halo!
dont care bout the name.............recon just roles of the tonge better but yea like Demon says...........i hope the weapons and especially the maps have a different feel to them cant wait tho!!!!!!!!!
Who cares that the campaign is short ??? thats just training for multiplayer anyway!!! killkill you are a fool.....
Who give's a sh!t about the name. The only thing i care about is that as long as its good and there are some different weapons and the maps dont look the same, im good. And i dont care how long the campaign is because i mostly play slayer. So people need to quit B!tching about the name.
I'm predicting that Halo 3: ODST will win 'nerdiest name for a game award' in 2009 ODST is such a horrible name, there has never been a game in history whose title consisted of an abbreviation And don't tell me F.E.A.R which actually makes the word 'fear' which the developers did purposely
dragonfirst 101 you re totally wrong for those who love there x360 (like me ) now that halo is one of the best game on this console ... so if your a ps3 owner ........ i dnt know just dnt say that halo odst will suck and u didnt even try it :@
its like a game based on the movie they made about hotel zanzibar for halo 2. I think they should have called it like Recon : ODST or left it the way it was. Yes its an over used title but its what people have already grown attached to. Stupid move bungie.
i bet its gonna hype so much ONLY CAUSE ITS 360 EXCLUSIVE!!!!!!!!look at gayble 2 and too human...haze is much better then too human
I'm excited whether it's five hours of gameplay or none. They are putting effort into this so I think it will be lovely! I buysss it!
Did anyone read the article??? Its an EXPANSION. that means its supposed to be short. it will still be good anyway. as for the new name... sounds like an STD or summin
@ XXMadManVII, The gun the ODST is holding in that trailer (if you look carefully) is in fact an SMG w/ a silencer!! Which is pretty sweet! I feel its a hint at stealth being a factor in this game. Well not hardcore stealth, but stealth to an extent. Like picking off brutes from behind and stuff.
It's 3 -5 hours of gameplay makes me wonder whether it's worth getting or not. And there's nothing new coming to the multiplayer, either.
It's probably relevant to the story but it's also very dorky. I'm still not sure whether I'm getting it or not.
Halo is awesome. All you haters should gtfo. BTW, idiots, Bungie has no say in the price. It's all Microsoft.
I read somewhere that the gun in the trailer was merely an SMG, like you thought XXMadManVII, but with a silencer equipped on the end. That's just what i read though, I may be wrong.
I liked "Recon" better. The Offical Trailer 2 shows the ODST guy get out of the drop pod with a gun I have never seen before, at first I thought it was a sub-machinegun, but now I think it is a new weapon. you should check it out, allotheabove123.
its halo.. nothing special. its been on its downfall since halo 3 was released. Halo was a fad. a fad soon to be dead. and i used to be like a HUGE halo fan. but halo 1 was by far the best one.
Im kinda disapointed that it will not be a full-fledged game and that its campaign will be so short... hopefully it will cost only $40 maximum... and yeah, that name is kinda stupid...
I know its an expansion but why dont they just call it ODST and leave it at that. It should be obvious what the game is with that if you have played halo before. I hope the game is good though
they have one too many games that involve the word recon and tom clancy and ubisoft kinda killed it...ODST is an alright name, but i would not want to have it called HALO3: Recon, might as well call it Hal03: advanced warfighter or something under those lines, why not call it Halo3: black ops or something? meh what ever
I think its a dumb name too...id rather say, "you wanna play Recon?" than "You wanna play OSDT?"...hopefully its got online slayer action though
though there's been so much coverage about this game, I still don't understand if you can play online deathmatch style....
I don't see the big deal here in why people are complaining about the length. Its going to be essentially Halo 2 at face value. That game was only 5 hours long and wasn't even remotely as good as its prequel or sequel, yet people still play it.
Dude i agree with martianrobot. Bungie couldof done better for us. Why only 3-5 hours? Granted i could beat any of the games in less time, but still. Compared to the projected 20+ hours of the other games, this is a minigame. Oh well, people will buy it just because it's halo, like always. (so will i cuz for what it's worth it seems pretty cool to me, haha)
Three to five hours of campaign? And they are making us wait a whole year for that? What's the blooming point? And I jolly well hope it shouldn't cost $60 (or rather UK#40 where I live). For that amount of gameplay it should be a 800MSP download... if that. But then I guess the selling point of it is the 'new multiplayer modes'... new ways for you to get 'pwned' by tedious teenage N00BKILLAZ etc. Thoroughly disappointed Bungie.
ODST sounds like a STD but wateva ill rather a hot game with a dumb title than a wack game with a good one
And one more thing, if it's only 3-5 hours long, why not make it a downloadable game? Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty was the same length, and it was downloadable (though it was released on a disc in parts of Europe)
Playing Xbox One games on somebody else's console will also require a check-in every hour. Full Story
