Halo 3 coming to Steam?

Steam database listings suggest Halo 3, and numerous other titles, could appear in Valve's virtual marketplace in some form.

[UPDATE] Following the publication of this story, a Microsoft representative confirmed with GameSpot that it has no plans to release any Halo games on Steam.

The original story follows below.

Microsoft's 2007 first-person shooter Halo 3 could be on its way to the PC. A NeoGAF user tapped into xPaw's Steam Database and found Halo 3--along with many other titles--in the Steam registry, suggesting they could be released for the PC in the future.

On the list are previously confirmed-for-PC games like Resident Evil: Revelations, but also a host of titles not yet announced for the PC. These include Fez, Quantum Conundrum 2, The King of Fighters XIII, Second Life, and Duke Nukem 3D, among others.

This information is by no means a confirmation that Halo 3--or any of the other titles--are indeed coming to the PC. These listings could relate to Steam Community hubs for non-Steam games, or something else entirely.

A Microsoft representative was not immediately available to comment.

If Halo 3 does come to the PC, it will not be the first entry in the franchise to do so. Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 are both currently available for the PC, though subsequent entries Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach, and Halo 4 are currently Xbox 360 exclusives.

That's because Microsoft are a bunch of puffed up faggots that cannot even conceive the idea of supporting their own product. ( windows vista, 7, and the extremely pointless crappy windows 8. ) I know that they know how fucking much that game would sell if it hit PC. If they care so fucking much about money, then I see no reason why they shouldn't do it. With Halo combat evolved, the modding community has really shown how well the series can look on pc. With the recent Truth and Reconciliation Remap thanks to the CMT team. Hell, modders support the damn game more than microsoft does. If it werent for halo on xbox and pc they wouldnt have their fucking shitty cash cow call of shit.

This is just Microsoft once again giving the PC platform another go since they probably predicted Steam would fail and were wrong. If enough copies of this game are sold on Steam expect the rest of the franchise to be ported over. :)

It's not a terrible move, even if Halo 3 is a 5 year old game, there's still nothing on PC comparable to it. Also because the current gen console platform is near death and it's unlikely for them to still be able to sell copies of Halo 3 on the 360.

You can play King of Fighters XIII on PC using the taito type x2 loader. You need a relatively powerful PC, though.

Sorry, but I don't see how a 5+ year old game maybe going to the PC is news. I guess I look ahead and not backwards. I also don't get why it's important to keep on reviewing the same game when it releases on other platforms. It's the same game.

Why are people freaking out about exclusives? This game came out 6 years ago and there are 3 newer installments to the franchise. If PC players play it, maybe they will buy an Xbox in the future to play the newest Halo's when they come out. Seems like it would make sense monetarily for MS, introduce people to a game they haven't played, maybe getting future purchases from them, and getting the money from selling H3.

@billlabowski Halo plays well with the mouse but there's a special kind of aim assistance in halo which makes it very easy to play with a controller.It almost feels as fast as playing quake with a mouse.....almost.

If it were true I would have gotten excited about the halo series again.... But after my first xbox 360 RROD....... I would rather save my money for exclusive games on systems that don't brick after a couple years with minimal use. Sad to see my launch 60 GB PS3 still out living a 360. No wonder why I went mainly PC gaming and only buy exclusives for nintendo and sony systems. I bet in a parallel universe Microsoft would have given their PC gamers better support and make a great console that was light years better then the first Xbox.

@dkdk999 Microsoft has enough problems keeping a wide base of first-party titles, it seems. Releasing them on PC would confer no advantage nor interest for the 360, especially if its flagship IP is on a more readily accessible system.

Why do you think people buy Nintendo or Sony consoles? It certainly isn't because they can also easily get every game in their first-party repertoire on the PC, that's for sure

@gamefreak215jd There has been an unusual phenomenon occurring in this current generation of video game consoles, in that first-party games have -not- been the most popular range of titles across each individual console. The big ones have been third-party, in games like Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, GTA IV, Battlefield, Call of Duty, Dead Space, and so on and so forth.

Thus I would think that Microsoft's primary objective across the last few years has been to make as many of those third-party titles available to the 360 as well, and to quash the whole "oh-PS3-has-out-of-this-world-graphics-by-comparison". Whereas in the case of Sony, it's been to get more exclusive DLC, more first-party titles, and to downsize XBL by offering similar services on PSN.

So chances are that come next generation of video gaming, Microsoft will again redouble its efforts to obtain some more first-party exclusivity to promote the next XBox. Depending on whether third-party titles dictate gaming as much as they have in the past few years or not, will likely determine whether this works out for them.

@Gazdakka @dkdk999 That and HALO was originally a PC exclusive.They could stopped the series for MAC and Linux and would have made it a windows as well as XBOX exclusive.PC used to be on top of everything else back then so sales would have still been good.

@dkdk999 Will the PC fanboys rage over it if it will be just a port like Dark Souls was? I remember when they announced Dark Souls for PC and every PC fanboy was so excited. When the game came out , every elitist bastard started bashing the game for being just a port , From Software telling them that's all they could do for that petition they created. I am a PC gamer too , but you gotta understand that the PC fanbase is mostly made out of elitists and hypocrites.

@Darnasian @dkdk999 There's proper ports and then there's ports ... Dark souls had it's share of problems, it took a modder 2h or so to fix the widescreen problem, couldn't a team of developers fix that ?

Well, it makes sense they would release it for PC now that the new consoles are on the horizon. That way they can milk the Halo franchise for all its worth right? Well better late then never...(assuming it does come out to PC)
