Half-Life now on Mac, Linux

Landmark 1998 first-person shooter ported to Mac OS X and Linux 15 years after its original release.

Valve's iconic first-person shooter Half-Life is now available on Mac OS X and Linux, 15 years after the game originally launched in 1998. Valve has not made an official announcement, but Polygon reports that the game is available and runs without a hiccup.

The game is currently priced at $9.99 through Steam.

Half-Life 2 and its subsequent episodes were previously made available for Mac, but not the original.

The original Half-Life has sold millions of copies and was adored by critics upon launch. It stars Gordon Freeman, a scientist at the Black Mesa Research Facility.

I just went to the Steam store and it shows that Half-Life is still only available for PC. I don't see it anywhere in the store for MAC or Linux. Am I missing something?

Half Life came years before, inspired those games and raised the bar higher. The only thing it has to envy CoD and Halo is it's popularity with prebubescent and insolent fanboys.

This senseless logic that are really facts beats being biased like you.

Playing it will have to be a labor of love, for like most turn-of-the-century games, it's quite dated. For it's time 'though, it was very innovative.

soooo maybe it's different for other people, but Half Life is still only available for pc on steam for me. Is this a change that will be implemented soon, or is it supposed to be available right now? cuz it's not

Freaky, I just started playing half life on orange box for xbox last night, I am motion sick as hell but 7hrs in and loving it.

I remember playing half life on a 99 or 2000 win me pc, it was horrible - the pc not the game, which is and always will be awesome.

@Voice_of_Wisdom I always thought Half Life was a puzzle platformer.

Seems a "little" late but it's nice to have this great game supported on other platforms as well.

Never played the first Half Life, so I'll probably get this when it's out of Beta for Linux.

My younger sister has a Mac and apparently she really wants to play Half Life again and wants an accessible way of doing so. I told her the news and she was delighted.

valve doesn't have a lot of titles but I know they will continue to support them for as long as valve is in existence. I bought max payne 2 the other day from steam and it just doesn't work at all on windows 7 with my current video drivers. This type of occurrence would never happen with a game published by valve.

Gee, MAC can now run a game I  beat 15 years ago? Well hell! Let me go buy myself an Apple fanboi badge now!!

Or, I'll just stay on PC where I can play every game that comes out today and in the future.

this is good news, i cant wait to see more games on Linux, im sure they are working hard to get there games on so they can make future games work perfectly on Linux. but i wish they can give us news or at at least throw a bone at us for HL3 or HL2-Ep3

Why would you use a pic from the PS2 only coop mode.... I, for a split second, thought valve had finally brought that cool little thing to the PC.... oi....

@quantumtheo Some one remade the whole co-op part of the ps2 version for pc as a mod. Just google it.

@lina_baby_doll It's not like they have anything more important to make right? Yup nothing at all.
