Guild Wars cocreator leaves NCsoft

I hope that they could join AreneNet team to help make GW 2 the best MMO ever. All the best to them both, where ever their feet will lead them.

@ q8sauod While Ncsoft is focusing on other things, Arena net is still hard at work on gw2 since ncsoft is only the publisher and not the developer.

Ncsoft should focus on Aion and guildwars 2.. but ncsoft is focusing more on Aion.. thats unfair Arenanet FOREVER

Maybe NCsoft is purging the Guild Wars 2 team in anticipation of Aion's imminent ravaging of the MMO market. Who knows?

It does worry me slightly that they would leave right before Aion is released. What is your thought process when you think, "Huge MMORPG coming in a month! Big money maker! Stock will go up! I'm gonna quit now". I can't help but wonder....what do they know that I don't?...

i personally didnt like GW's, but you guys might come out of this for the better years down the line, if he was the better half of the 2 creators....chances are he will go off and create a game 100% his ideas......so if he was the better half or 50% of what you love already....it may get doubled!

Prophecies was the best of the 3 and btw GW is 100000000000000000000000000000000000000x better than WoW

GW2 is gonna come out no matter what guys so chill, also I think GW clearly proves that you do not NEED a sub/microtrans system to run a game, is it perfect?, no, but it is a very solid game and proves you do not need to pay to play a MMO

hate to see him go but good luck Jeff. @brunorr: how can something you haven't even tried be lame? imo EotN is the prettiest of the four and with the best storyline. It's my fave of the four within GW. Not only that, it's where My Hall of Monuments is at and it will be interesting to see all of my awards and such carried over to GW2. So looking forward to GW2.

They could have released another big episode like Factions or Nightfall before anouncing GW2. I was almost coming back to GW but they choose to release that EotN lame-ass expansion so I didn't buy it.

No bigs, SC2 and D3.

It is of no concern to me if GW2 won't show up for another 3 years. It will only strenghen the final quality and joy.

GW2 doesn't need to be delayed again. By the time it's released the graphics engine and features will already be old news.

Hope there's no hard impact on GW2.

@sandmanccl Yeah you're spot on. The bigger the number of subscriptions, the bigger the idiocy you have of the community. Look no further than the masses playing WoW. The last thing I need in my recreation is people QQing on my computer.

Wow, I can't believe no one gave me a thumps down yet! I haven't played Guild Wars but I was going to get it until I heard how it went downhill and they added bot characters you can hire so you can solo. (I was only going to get it as a online game were you can ONLY group to get through the game.) Guild Wars is not really an MMO. MMOs need a constant income so they can pay for high powered servers to hold all sorts of data and thousands of people all over the game world in real time. It just that, I'm not sure if it's this guy who is leaving but a GW developer said the MMOs need a monthly fee was a lie, he was full of it. and he actually referred to WoW as the first true MMO about how he talked about "I hear people all the time they are making their games like WoW" don't you mean Everquest, you know, the game format World of Warcraft is based off of?

guildwars trilogy is good but GWEoN ,in my personal opinion ,don't like the product of game creators called "game god"; and about the nerfs of skills and things ,really spoiled this game. Do mak GoW2 is as superb as the original one.

@All I'm not saying all free MMO's are bad but you truly DO get what you pay for. Meaning if you want good updates, good extras, then you pay for them. Before you used to only get expansions and content through huge 30-50 buck expansions. Now with the pay systems you are seeing more expansions via patches which is really intriguing. The latest is DDO, I'm kinda interested to see how the Free vs. Pay-to-play works out. Interesting concept and may serve the industry well to see how that pans out among players. I've been a GW player since the get go but after Nightfall everything kinda meh'd out for me. Heck I still have my Asura pet from the big GW2 promo they were running.

guild wars was great. idk why you people are downing on it so much. its a great idea to make a free MMO. I don't buy games that require me to pay monthly. Plus it was fun.

Hahaha maybe he got mad that GW2 wasn't released 3 years ago as promised. These are the people who promised an expansion to GW every six months.. then a year.. then 2 years... only can play a button mashing MMO for so long. Go to Cryptic, Mythic, or Blizzard those companies atleast recognize valuable employee contributions. Or best yet, start your own indy developer. I'll support anything that isn't Korean made.

@Nerkcon: actually Guild Wars is a great MMO despite it being free i know it isnt the best but they really made it one of a kind man but they did probably lose alot of money making it free

I guess he realized how much fail doing a free MMO was and went to make a better quality and much better money making pay to play game.

@ SerOlmy: I don't see the problem with "masses of expansions that have to be purchased." Instead of paying $15 a month, you pay $50 about every year. I agree with the poor community surrounding free to play games. Remember Diablo 2 in it's heyday? It was pretty awful. Unfortunately, the masses are dumb, and the more people that play a game, the dumber a community seems to become. I also don't get the whole Micro-transaction thing that NCsoft pushes. It has only had moderate success in the Western Market, although admittedly it's been gaining in popularity. I really liked Guild Wars, though, so I guess my complaining can only be taken with a grain of salt.

NC soft doesn't seme to understand that the Eastern and Western markets have two veyr different ideas of what an enjoyable MMO is. Asian style MMO's just don't work favorably in the american and European markets. Personally I thin anything NCsoft tries to market in the US is utter garbage, but to each their own. My main problem with the company is the overreliance on instance based content (read: Guild Wars) and non-subscription based content that leads to poor community and customer support and gobs of expansions that have to be purched.

NCSoft is dead to me. The closing of Tabula Rasa just as it started to get good... preceded by the closing of auto assault, both games only open about/less then a year... I don't think they know how to manage their property.

This only cements the evidence that GW2 will never come out. It is quickly filling the spot that Duke Nukem used to fill.

I'm growing skittish from the lack of news about GW2 - EotN was released a year and a half ago already.

People are losing there jobs left and right and there are others just walking out on there jobs!!! The nerve of this guy!

This is pretty crazy news. People leave for new endeavors though. I can't wait for GW2!!!
