October has thus far been a relatively slow month for Nintendo's online storefronts. Last week, Nintendo tossed a single title each to WiiWare, the Virtual Console, and DSiWare, with console gamers afforded Word Searcher and Final Fantasy while handheld owners could pick up Thorium Wars. This week, a like number of games are available on the Nintendo shop, as Gravitronix joins Final Fight 2 on the Wii while the DSi picks up Pinball Pulse: The Ancients Beckon.
Medaverse Studios lends the Wii its soul original game this week, as its multiplayer-centric action battler Gravitronix is available for 500 Wii points ($5). The game accommodates matches for up to eight, and players must defend a section of a spherical battleground from various projectiles.
A Capcom Super NES classic beat-'em-up, Final Fight 2 sees professional-wrestler-turned-Metro-City-mayor Mike Haggar again dishing out his special form of justice against the Mad Gear Gang. In the 800-Wii-point title ($8 ), Haggar teams up with Maki and Carlos to bring the brawl to Asia. Final Fight 2 accommodates play for up to two.
Lastly, Nintendo's DSi receives a dose of pinball this week for 500 DSi points ($5). Pinball Pulse: The Ancients Beckon was developed by Fuse Games, perhaps best known for creating 2005's Metroid Prime Pinball for the DS and Mario Pinball Land for the Game Boy Advance. Nintendo was light on gameplay details, saying only that players would perform feats of pinball wizardry across two different modes to gain favor from 12 different Olympian gods.
@Hillsy_ Well the achievement system is like the cherry on the top. But I think the voice chat is what mainly keeps me playing on the 360. Had there been voice chat on the wii I would probably have continued playing Brawl to this day. I hated having to play against/with my friend that lives half a world away using the speakerphone on my cell.
I would love to see Final Fight 2 and 3 on Xbox Live with online co-op, voice communication, and a good list of achievements. I had at least three different friends that were always willing to throw down on these games back when Super Nintendo was the thing. They were fun and simple, yet the fighting system in part three was a lot more complex than the other brawlers of the day that I played. Plus, Mike Haggar hasn't been featured in a game in a while. That's a crime!
@leeko_link - So not many more titles then. haha! @Subacetylene - and I always thought it was more about having the chance to play decent games rather than collecting trophies and achievements for all games??
Good that Final Fight 2 is here. Now I want Earthworm Jim 2, Fighting Street, Super Mario Kart, or Kirby Superstar for next week's VC update.
I agree with jthegame315, I would rather buy this if it were on the 360. The wii needs to implement an achievement system as well as voice chat. The lack of both of these features makes Wiiware titles worthless in comparison to either the ps3 or xbox live system.
Final Fight 2...Love beating the crap outta people...in a computer game mind you haha!
i saw final fight mentioned i was drew to this story however would prefure to see it on xbox live because i am not about to buy anything on wii virtua console or wiiware now with how little i play my wii.
@kevin_amadi: But Kevin Amadi just because Final Fight 3 was easier than Final Fight 2 doesn't make FF2 the better one. Though FF3 maybe easier it's WAY more fun to play. It offers lots more moves and you're granted a super combo bar. Also they had breakable environments and secret areas, can't remember if FF2 had destructible environments/hidden rooms or not. Then there is the nice option of using a computer controlled character to help you whip some bad guys if a human is not present. Final Fight 3 to me is the overall package for the SNES run, though FF2 was alright.
Interesting looking forward
@Foxxy & Geiger i have to disagree. FF3 was WAY too easy. FF2 doesn't have near as many moves, but it's challenge level is near perfect. since the first one didn't have coop, i'd have to say FF2 was easily the best SNES FF, if not it's best beat 'em up period (that or Brawl Brothers [Turtles in Time was also too easy])
Final fight rulzzz
Unfortunately the bot co-op partner only was introduced and showed up in Final Fight 3 none of the prior (including FF2) nor any since FF3 as far as I know have ever had that option. Which makes FF3 all the more so special.
Thought I don't seem to recall 2 player co-op in the home Super Nintendo console version of Final Fight. FF2 was the first of the Home console Super Nintendo games to have 2 player co-op (in the Final Fight series at least). But the Arcade version allowed 2 player co-op from the get go if I recall correctly. So its all the more so interesting to me how different FF3 was from the first two and the rest of the Final Fight series game play and option wise.I mean I don't recall there ever being an option to play with computer controlled co operative partners in other beat'em ups aside from Final Fight 3.@Foxxy25
Agreed Foxxy, I especially loved the inclusion of the branching paths even though they eventually joined up at the same end boss battle. And loved the option to play with a bot co-op partner. I just wish they made them care more about surviving the waves of thugs they threw at us than just working with their limited AI presets. I mean why wouldn't they grab the meat or whatever food was on the ground? Also why weren't they given extra lives and the option to pull from and add to the same extra-life pool that we the gamer had?Other than those minor gripes I used to play Final Fight 3 all the time and even grew to love the music and the variety of attacks they gave you to work with be it the running attacks the jumping attacks the semi special attacks that would feel more at home in a Tournament Fighter than the usual overly simplified specials that most Beatem ups had (and heck even FF3 had some of those too in addition to these). Good times...Here's hoping online co-op is enabled for this and all future ports of the Final Fight series. Though the music in Final Fight 2 wasn't bad either IMO. I seem to mostly recall how cool the music in the french venue that you fought through was in FF2.Final Fight 3 was better IMO.
I didn't even know there was a Final Fight 2. I might look into that.
Pinball's fine at least for the enthusiasts and yes, they exist. There is the idea of bringing a bunch of Ouendan mini-packs or something. Note the Ouendan part because Nintendo always has the option of releasing both that and EBA in bite-size form so we can pick out the gems from the Wal-Mart worthy artists in EBA and if like 3 or 4 total Ouendan songs are available and they all tank then they only lose the total revenue gained from, say some Game & Watch Collection installment.
Come on Nintendo, I want decent DSiware titles, not another Pinball game. Where is a proper Mario 2-D platformer, or even the promised Bomberman Blitz?
Good to see Final Fight 2. Now we need Final Fight 3 and the arcade version of part 1, and we're good for the co-op beat-em-up genre. The Streets of Rage series is good too, but they'll always be known as "Final Fight clones".
