Minor character from GTA: San Andreas and GTAIV turns up in recent casting call for unnamed voice-over project, further indicating West Coast setting for the game.
Source: A voice-over casting call on the Actors Pages website (spotted by the blog Revolt-tech).
What we heard: Earlier this month, a casting call surfaced for an "interactive project" called "Rush," which many suspect is a cover name for Grand Theft Auto V. The main reason for suspicion was the over-the-top nature of the characters and an association to Rockstar's go-to casting studio Telsey & Company. The casting clues also appeared to indicate the series would return to the West Coast, site of the popular--and famously controversial--Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
Now, another casting call has emerged with a more concrete link to the GTA universe in the form of a character from San Andreas. Though the Actors Pages, which went up earlier today, has the production company and casting agency listed as private, it does list one of the roles being cast as one James Pedeaston.
Though not a major character in San Andreas, Pedeaston did make a humorous impact as the host of the Wild Traveler show on the WCTR radio station. On the program, he waxed poetic about his too-close-for-comfort relationship with a young boy in Sri Lanka, with his tales of exotic exploits offending listeners so much that they would call in to protest.
Pedeaston also made an appearance in Grand Theft Auto IV, albeit in a far reduced form. The game's Internet cafes allowed players to access the site freejames.org, which was set up following the character's 2003 arrest and subsequent conviction in Bali, Indonesia, on suspicion of child molestation. That latter detail is important, since the casting call describes Pedeaston as "a man-boy love activist who just got released from an Indonesian prison."
Given the solid link between the GTA series and the casting call, it is likely the other characters listed could make an appearance in an upcoming GTA game. These include: Matthew, "a liberal young male who believes in a conspiracy made by Republicans to undermine America"; Jose, "a white creepy man who thinks that technology is a poison against the wilderness"; and Anthony, "a young, fast-talking boy fighting for the right of young boys to drink alcohol and have sex." Another character, Samantha, further cements the West Coast connection, since she is "a young female obsessed with sex parties, always dreaming of being a Hollywood celebrity." (Emphasis added.)
The official story: "We don't comment on rumors or speculation."--Rockstar Games rep.
Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus.
I don't want to believe the rumors and will continue to delude myself the next GTA game will be Vice City-like. La la la la, la la la, can't hear you, la la la.
Will this be the first time R* brings a child or teen to a GTA game? Or, will the boy be among the ages of 18 to 24? Hmmm... :|
@danielcanas7 Because then they'd need real in world items for which they'd need licences which cost a lot of money. They also wouldn't have complete freedom either.
GTA : London - Congestion charge, clogged streets, people on bikes and the underground. If theres anything going to make traveling in GTA more of a pain its all going to be in GTA : London.
gta anartica... kill peguins, eskimos, polar bears it would be really fun. gta afganistan- buncha sand and p/o'ed muslims... show them some redneck jihad for all i care for them just let the next gta have airplanes that i can fly and i ll be a happy man
And don't come around with an eastern european main character which made us wish they'd just blow their off with a shotgun.
Why do they always chage the cities' names: Los Angeles becomes Los Santos, New York is Liberty City? It bothers me. Don't you think it's annoying?
I've heard somewhere that Jimmy Hopkins from Bully, would be now cast as an adult protagonist in GTA 5! Since he make a brief cameo in GTA 4 cut scene, now he could be the main character! He's Irish, so we think he could be in New York, L.A. or London. If it's London, maybe he will be part of IRA organisation to free North Ireland!!
Hoping it's gonna look more like san andreas, that was way better than anything GTA4 tryed (even if I also loved GTA4, lol). Where it's gonna be this time? London?
James Pedaston is a British character... I'm still kind of hoping this means GTAV will be a remake of GTA: London. I really think that Rockstar North would be great at ripping off the the UK, since they're actually based here.
gtaV hopefully will have bigger map, with far more country, outdoors settings, along with the cramped cities that everyone loves to F#!$% around in.
keep reading that this is an April fools joke! What? April is not due here for another 41 mins and this is just my post, some of them are from earlier today and much is from days ago. It cannot be an April fools joke until APRIL!
san andreas is a good game i beat it over 10 times and the other gta's 4 times each but with the next one there should be new scenery. one of the gta's was in england if they brought this place back a mission could involve catching jack the ripper (also a side mission in gta iv) & if you beat iv and watched the ending where that person might have been going that would have been a nice place
It's nice to see the words "GTA" and "linked" together without the word "murder" involved for a change. And I have something to say for all the "news reporters" who blame games for real-life crimes: Psychopaths who are able to carry those things out will end up doing it one way or the other (i'm sure i'm not the first person to say that, just felt like the right topic to make a reminder)
Wow, when I said: "The GTA series is getting very creepy. They are now like south park." I thought I was going to be voted down to hell. Thanks for not voting me down. ;) It's nice to know people are starting to know how creepy Rockstar is. I wish they would just go back to being fun.
@leninv3l Actually I think the guy was right? Although the original GTA was released before London, I'm fairly sure London was actually made before - just not released (the gameplay is a big give away too) @thegroscon You're a fool! I'm sorry but to say England offers nothing is a stupid remark. Londeners, Scousers, Mancs.. I can go on. There's so much possibility with the different cultures. Coming to the UK would be good for the series. That's not because I'm patriotic, but because there would be so much to do. Think of all the landmarks as well! Cruising down the River Thames whilst guys take lucky shots at you from the bridges.. Oh man.. It would be great stuff.
@superapo "This is an April Fool's joke! i guarantee it!" And a guarantee from an anonymous GS member is worth what exactly?
Rockstar have got balls if nothing else. I applaud their bravery for their content. Excellent stuff.
Woot! San Andreas was and still is the best GTA imho. Silent kill was pretty l33t, shame that you couldn't perform stealth kills in GTA: IV. I really can't wait for this one!
@boobush The adverts were, the "fat children eat cake so don't run" one was the best. The 2nd one was Glory Hole theme park XD
Ha! How can a fan not remember him. Or the next: Well that sounds lovely. With people like you it's no wonder we don't bother curing cancer. Next caller, you're on the wild traveler - followed by a lame ROOOAAR -. San Andereas radio bits were better than GTA4 i think.
@solidsnake7882 Dude, did I blink and miss the patch that fixed the PC GTA IV? Hmmm, as far as I can see it's still an awfully optimized, buggy pile of crap but ok :P I've played all three console versions (X360/PS3/PC) and for me the X360 was the way to go mainly because I wasn't left waiting like a spastic for months to get a patch that fixed a controller (The 360 controller at that) And people loved San Andreas because the scale of the game, the size of the story and the sheer amount of side bits to do. The game was never boring! GTA IV was a step forward in graphics if a little bland and lifeless colour-wise...I say screw realism if it covers the world in greys and browns...Fallout 3/NV was a huge culprit of this... And yes they had the physics very well done but it doesn't make the game "fun" persay, it just adds to atmosphere which is all good and well but it's no good having the finest atmosphere if there isn't any activities to do IN that world. My fave GTA's: GTA (1), GTA:VC, GTA:SA, GTAIII (Due to the huge leap forward at the time it was IMMENSE), GTA IV Not saying GTA IV was a bad game at all but let's face it...In 10 years time I'll look back and I won't remember GTA IV as the staple of the series.
@solidsnake7882 I love/d both! But the thought of San Andreas' scale + the physics and gfx of IV can only = the best game to have ever graced earth!?!?:P
lets hope theres stuff to do in the next gta other than the story and driving around. gta 4 was a huge step forwards graphically but a huge atep back in ever other department
I'm amazed at all the love for San Andreas and some of the hate of 4. I loved 4 hated San Andreas. However San Andreas had some good parts to it. If they can make it as good as GTA 4 I will buy it. Also Rockstar didn't screw pc gamer with GTA 4, GTA 4 on PC was a buggy mess but once fixed is far superior to the 360/ps3 version.
fairly concrete evidence of gtaV I reckon. However any rumours that it's due for 2012 are absolutely RIDICULOUS. Look at how long gta IV took, at least three years of development??
San Andreas is the best GTA game ever. That said, Rockstar has proven over and over that they can make new things that turn out great. They did it with RDR, Bully, etc. For that reason I want to see something totally new. CJ was awesome, but I want a new main character and a new world to fall in love with. If they do it in San Andreas it would likely be very similar to the old game story-wise. But I gotta say, multiplayer in San Andreas would be awesome.
Having GTA V set in the San Andreas world or something like it would be amazing. I had a great time playing San Andreas, I really liked the ability to drive to 3 completely different cities. Just the driving out in the country and the desert was such a great time. The mountain was always a blast, get in huge cop chases up the mountain then just drive right off the top of it! I kinda miss the ability to buy a bunch of safe houses all over the place like previous GTAs as well, and flying planes!
