Wedbush Securities' Michael Pachter expects Rockstar Games' open-world title to ship one week after BioShock: Infinite this fall season.
The much-anticipated open-world action game Grand Theft Auto V will ship on October 23, 2012, according to Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter. Speaking on the latest episode of GameTrailers TV, Pachter acknowledged that shipping on that date would be just a week behind another major Take-Two property, BioShock Infinite (October 16), but he did not budge on his belief.
"I know that's too close to BioShock Infinite," he said. "I don't think the Rockstar guys care about a 2K game."
If GTAV ships on October 23, 2012, gamers will be barraged with high-profile games in consecutive weeks. The October-November release calendar could shape up to be: BioShock Infinite (October 16), GTAV (October 23), Assassin's Creed III (October 30), Halo 4 (November 6), and if rumor proves accurate, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 on November 13.
As for when new GTAV details might arrive, Pachter believes Rockstar will let loose new information the Monday before the 2012 Electronic Entertainment Expo commences.
"My read on those guys, is they like stealing the thunder from everybody else," he said. Pachter went on to explain offering new details about the game on this day would make GTAV the most-talked-about game of the show, despite not actually having a presence there.
This is not the first indication of an October 2012 release date for GTAV. Earlier this month, a Rockstar North employee's resume pointed to the action game shipping during that window.
Not all are on board with a 2012 release date for GTAV. Janco Partners' Mike Hickey and Sterne Agee's Arvind Bhatia are expecting the game to arrive in 2013, and specialty retailer GameStop is not counting on it to ship this year.
When GTAV does eventually arrive, it will do so with lofty sales expectations. Multiple reports suggest the game could sell many millions of copies, with one projecting it could sell 24 million units if it maintains historical attach rates.
Rockstar took the wraps off GTAV in October and issued the game's first trailer in early November. The game will be set primarily in present-day Los Santos, a fictional town modeled on Los Angeles. Rockstar has also said that GTAV boasts the largest scope of any installment in the franchise to date.

IF THIS RELEASE DATE IS TRUE ? I WILL THEN HAVE ALMOST ALL MY 3RD PERSON GAMES FOR THIS YEAR AND I WILL BE BUSY > FUN FUN FUN !
Who else only buys GTA for the radio stations? Just me, ok :(
I have no interest in Bioshock Infinite. First game, Classic. Sequel, better gameplay, weaker story. Bio:I to me is just lining the cashcow up to be milked.
i really hope it does cause theres only acouple games that seemed like the developers took time making
i dont care what year it comes just whatever year it is come out around christmas it will make my year if i get this game and i hope it isnt a disapointment but probaly wont be because rockstar is the best game company ever and takes time into to making games
As expected. I commented on the teaser trailer about how they would release this year. They had shown us too much for it not to be. Looks like an expensive couple of weeks. Getting all those except BO2.
i think every wants this game some are saying they want it now some are saying they want it later so Rockstar can make the game perfect why dosen't everyone sit down and be quiet and wait till the developers announce it so everyone can be satisfied
Blah, blah, blah. I'm getting really tired of reading articles that are nothing but speculation. I want some NEWS. Until Rockstar officially confirms the release date, I'm gonna quit reading these articles.
LIES this guy is an idiot. Assassins Creed 3 Is a week later after the 23rd! im sick of everyone predicting this Rockstar Delayed Max Payne 3 AGAIN from the 15th to the 29th! Just shut up with the guesses Thats like me guessing Disney will make 350 million with Avengers and Dark knight will make $600 million when in reality Michael and I don't know *^&^
I'd like it to be October, but if it takes longer I honestly don't mind. I've loved every single Grand Theft Auto to be released, no doubt in my mind that this will be the best. Take your time Rockstar :)
I don't care. I will patiently wait for the game's release, whenever may it be. I sold my soul to Rockstar long ago...
People are saying it would be dumb to release it because of Hallo 4 and big games due out. Im 100% positive GTA 5 would outsell all of those titles.
how can an analyst predict when a game company is releasing a major game? go get a career as a fortune teller.
While on the face of it, it sounds like good news, but what does Wedbush Securities have to do with Rockstar in the real world? They're a Financial Services and Investment firm, ffs.
It drives me nuts that they had to write "five" across the Roman numeral because too many morons can't understand it's not "Grand Theft Auto Vee."
@Psycold Dude what are you talking about GTA has always been on consoles it was never stolen from PC. honestly your whole comment sounds ridiculous all the GTA's have come on the PC same as consoles the only major R* game the PC didn't get was RDR but to say that consoles stole R* from PC is dumb if anything R* started off on consoles anyway.
@Lordcrabfood Heck no dude there terrible I was agreeing with you trust me you don't want to hear there music.
October 23rd. My 34th birthday! Also, in the year 2077 on October 23rd, Nuclear bombs will destroy the world. (According to Fallout lore)
This game is going to be an absolute BEAST!! Can't wait for the Fall, so many great titles! But Max Payne 3 and Darksiders 2 will keep me plenty busy until the late year rush.
After the console market stole GTA from us PC gamers with GTA3, every release Rockstar mentions nothing about a PC version then ends up releasing it a year later. This has been consistent with the GTA series, but they never released Red Dead for PC so that somewhat changes my opinion. It is still possible that PC gamers might never see this one.
No matter what this is going to be a first day buy for me. I dunno though, I'm getting used to buying a Rockstar game every May now. They wouldn't have a game to release next May then. :(
I'm pretty sure many gamers would love to see GTA V to launch this year, but part of me thinks it's highly unlikely. I dont know, it just seems too soon imo. if it doesnt gets released this year, well we got enough games to keep us busy for this fall.
@Marky360 So I am assuming you believe that these artists have talent, I have honestly not heard of any of them so I will have to take your word for it.
Pachter seems to think a lot of things regarding GTA V, he said 2013 initially.... I've said all along I think a late 2013 release is likely, Max Payne 3 isn't being developed by Rockstar North, I see no reason they couldn't release 2 AAA titles in 1 year, many other publishers do it; too often in fact. Looking at the release schedule this year there's a week free from a major title in October, just after Resident Evil 6 and Medal Of Honor but before Halo 4, Bioshock Infinite and Black Ops 2, could be just a coincidence? Wait and see I suppose. If it doesn't, Assassin's Creed 3 will keep me busy.
pachter's predictions are just predictions and he was wrong many times before. it's just an educated guess. besides, whenever it comes to the consoles is irrelevant to me. im anticipating the PC version.... :-P if it ever comes out....
This year would be great but if they will release it next year it will be even better, more time on the game :D.
i think and i hope it will be this year in OCTOBER. and if you look at GTA series most of them in OCTOBER.
no way, i highly doubt it as so many other blockbuster games are due out around then. besides i remember reading somewhere about this, it'd be slightly impractical to release it so close to games like Halo 4 :P
well we got max payne 3 in a few weeks . so i highly doubt we will get gta v this year . but would be awesome if it was this year.
