KISS bassist tells British game show Game On that he's in the next installment of the rhythm series, due in the second half of this year.
With original publisher RedOctane being shuttered and developer Neversoft reportedly being taken off the series, the Guitar Hero franchise is surrounded by uncertainty. Uncertainty except for one thing: Gene Simmons will be in the next installment in the long-running music game series--according to Simmons, anyway.
"I'm the voice of Guitar Hero 6," the KISS bassist said bluntly on the British show Game On currently viewable below and on YouTube. The quote was excised from a larger interview and played--and replayed--for comic effect during the 12-and-a-half-minute show, which made much of the fact that the game hadn't been announced yet.
That isn't entirely true, though, since Activision used its most recent earnings call to confirm that two music games would be released in the back half of the year. One of those has been named as DJ Hero 2 multiple times, and the other was an unnamed Guitar Hero game. Coming after Guitar Hero 5, that game is likely being referred to as "Guitar Hero 6" internally at Activision, though the title has not been formally announced. However, as of press time, the publisher had not responded to requests for clarification or comment.
In archetypal self-promotional style, Simmons also used his interview to say the best way for a Guitar Hero player to become a real musician was to buy the Gene Simmons Axe controller. Then turning serious he advised them to practice and "play with somebody who knows how to play, watch what they do, [and] copy."
I predict Guitar Hero 6 will sell less than a million units as Kotick is going to release 7 more Guitar Heroes this year anyway. It's sad that RedOctane shut down due to Kotick's greediness. I will never support another Activision game ever until I hear news that Kotick resigns.
damn jus when you thought he couldn't find anything else to stamp his name on lol any idea when his official sponsored bog roll will appear?
Hasn't Activision already done enough to overpopulate the music game market? Who wants to bet that they'll try to sell a new generation of controllers with it?
ROFL.. and the fanboys thought that guitar hero was over... HAH the franchise that brought guitar out won't go out that easy.. Go Guitar Hero OK if you are not planning on buying this game or even like guitar hero why don't you just GTFO and STFU
the funnyest thing about kiss is paul stanley and gene simmons are both jewish. but in the kiss name they have the nazi ss symbol in ther band name.
We don't need GH6. Just patch GH5, complete the exportability, and keep making dlc. That's all we need. I'm sick of buying new guitar hero games.
@okassar I think you got it backwards. I find that GH consists mostly of modern music and RB has more classic. That's why I enjoy RB's setlist the most. I can't stand most of the recent music that I find in GH.
i lost count how many 60 guitar heros do i have to buy ,, i have guitar hero 2 3 aero , world tour metallica 5 and van halen i dont need another , , seriously activision , wheres my 007! hurry the 3$ER up why dont you give me goldeneye 2 !
Gene Simmons is a money grubbing douche. Get Dio, Halford, or Ozzy instead, please. Someone actually TALENTED. ;)
Perfect fit- Rock music's king of the sellouts starring in the king-of-sellout music series. I have a friend in a band who turned him down for a reality show offer because he was practically going to turn them into the Jonas Brothers; he cares about nothing but money and on multiple occasions has tried to take credit for things like the invention of the index-and-pinky devil horn "metal" sign. Kiss was marginally good... in the 70s.... Gene Simmons is an aging business man and nothing more.
Ya I agree with other commenters, classic rock is what it is....old school-->OLD. I know, some people like it, but Activision really needs to realize that making its GH games like 60% classic rock is a bittt too much. Rock Band is just right with modern songs, occasional classic.
Wow. Do they think all gamers are in love with classic rock? Nobody likes Gene Simmons; the guy is a tool.
Just when you thought it was safe to go outdoors again,,, GH6, brought to you by a bunch of no-name hacks that have nothing at all to do with the past isntallments. Sounds like a horrid idea.
After what Activision did to Infinity ward and Red octane they dont deserve a penny from me!! I used to love guitar hero but they are taking it too far releasing a new game when it could just be packed into DLC. . . Shame on you activsion
If this really is the only GH game coming out this year, it MIGHT have a slim chance at being better than RB3 - or not lol
I don't really see what's not to like about Guitar Hero. As long as they have masters and not covers, the songs are fun to play. What's with all the hate?
Activision destroyed RedOctane and now another Guitar Hero is coming? I don't get it. What was the purpose of firing all those employees when Kotick knew another Guitar Hero was coming? All I can think of is greed.
@asm607 Then that excludes just about everyone, as adults who like classic rock just to the damn stuff. **** Guitar Hero...
ENOUGH MILKING OF GUITAR HERO!!!! Seriously. Focus on expanding the music library, instead of updating graphics and adding more useless features.
The hosts in this video are NOT funny. Nobody cares about Guitar Hero anymore thanks to Activision's decision to saturate the market.
