Microsoft announces simultaneous worldwide release for Epic Games' Xbox 360-exclusive shooter; no beta date yet.
It may be one of the jewels in Microsoft's 2011 lineup, but Gears of War 3 has had a tumultuous time on the road to release. The game's unveiling was set to take place on chat show Late Night with Jimmy Fallon but was delayed, though not before the game's release date was reportedly leaked on Xbox Live. Shortly after the Late Night showing, Microsoft confirmed that the game would be landing in April 2011, but then had to renege on its initial promise and delay the game to a holiday 2011 release.
Today, Microsoft has announced a new worldwide release date for Gears of War 3 of September 20, 2011. This brings territories such as Japan, Australia, and Europe in line with the US, which was originally going to get the game first when it was slated for an April release date.
Microsoft has also named some of the maps and weapons that are due to appear in the game when it lands in September. There will be new multiplayer maps by the name of Trenches, Overpass, Mercy, Checkout, and Thrashball, as well as new weapons, including a bayonet charge, a retro lancer, a sawed-off shotgun, a one-shot, an incendiary grenade, and a digger launcher. Microsoft has also promised that more news on the multiplayer public beta will be released soon.
Gears of War 3's new release date places it just one week after another high-profile shooter--id's Rage. To find out more about Gears of War 3, including the game's new Beast mode, read GameSpot's ongoing coverage of the game.
PCs are superior to consoles from the hardware point of view simply because new PC hardware comes out far more often than new console hardware. The consoles were released about 4-5 years ago and still have more or less the same hardware. The PC on the other hand, has seen loads of video cards and CPUs released for it during that time interval !!!
@diabloakaSAHA PC gaming will never die! As for Gears of War it was a great purchase and I am happy I got it. Although, I didn't particularly care about the MP. The SP was great and the graphics on my system really brought out the game. If Epic wants to be stupid and blame all PC gamers for piracy (when we know damn well that you can pirate games to consoles as well), then I will be happy not to purchase from them. Still, its a waste of a very good game on a system that can play it as it should be played. Which is obviously on the PC. Would have never purchased the thing for my 360...which turned out to be a good choice as the 360's hardware is a piece of sbeep and it keeps getting ugly red rings.
pc gaming sucks? without computer gaming, consoles wouldn't even exist. and valve made Half Life, CS source and day of defeat which are arguably some of the best shooters ever...last decent title by epic games was unreal tournament 2004 and thats about it.
@vicsrealms Why? so that ppl can pirate the game to death?? They threw a bone to the PC gamers with gears1 by releasing it a year after the 360 and we all know how that turned out. If i can remember the multiplayer was dead within just a couple of months. I'll tell u this. The day blizzard and valve stop making games for the pc is the day pc gaming will DIE.
Shut up about PC already, It's a 360 exclusive, don't see 360/PS3/Wii users whinging about PC exclusive games do you?
~sigh~ If only the developer would show some intelligence and put these games on the PC. Or at least a console that doesn't break every 6 months.
Cant wait to play Gears of war 3 and this time we know for sure the multiplayer wont be lagging terribly like Gears of war 2 did,GEARS FTW!
Can't wait for this! Gears of War has always been a breath of fresh air in a genre dominated by first person shooters.
There are other ways to get into the beta without a copy of Bulletstorm. Lots of Beta info dropping this week, stay locked.
Gears 1 is superbly great (I admit)..... but Gears 2 story is kinda lame, it stuck with same old, same old scripts / concepts, the story or gameplay experince feels like somewhat de ja vu, there's nothing new there, Gears 2 is more like DLC than new sequel!! :? I just hope Gears 3 to be far far better than the previous sequel, with whole new concept & story!! ;)
well, quite everyone has a pc but not all pc's are suited to play games with high graphical standards! which means that not everyone has a gaming pc at home. That's why i stick with consoles most of the games.
not exactly worldwide, because in Germany the whole Gears of War series had been so far forbidden to be sold in the retail. Some politicians are still sticking with their anti-violent games attitude and even block the PEGI ratings which is a bad joke as the PEGI should be valid in all European countries. Anyway i will buy the UK version then.
After they refused to bring gears 2 to the PC I could care less. Gears 1 worked great on the pc I loved that game. But since Epic and Cliffy B decided to screw over the pc fanbase that made them the success they are today (i.e original Unreal Tournament / UT2004), I will never buy another game from Epic.
@im-a-roustabout Well, not everybody has a console. Consoles and Videogames are being ripped everyday, everywhere, and that's a shame, the same as music and movies. You can get a PC game online in a matter of a few hours, and its crack in minutes. Also, 360 games are very easy to find online and burn them to a double layer dvd... BUT, non of those are valid excuses to avoid publishing games for either console or, worst, for PC, because it's still profitable. The thing that games remain exclusive for the MS console and doesn't come out for PC (like almost every other game for 360) it's absurd. PC gaming experience is a blast.... Ok, I also own a 360.
I've already pre-ordered my copy. Pick up Bulletstorm which is a pretty awesome game in itself. I'll be joining the Gears 3 beta when it launches. There are other decent games coming like Forza 4, Steel Battalion and Kimgdoms. Hoping that Kinect Star Wars game comes out this year as well.
It looked really solid at E3 so with all this extra time Gears 3 should a massive experience.... oh wait.... I don't have a 360! Grarghhhh @#$%%
About freaking time! I can't wait to get this game..throw us a bone here and give us the release date of the MP beta I paid $60 bucks for (joking Bulletstorm is a fun game :-P )
Gears of War is the only franchise that makes me jealous of xbox owners.. Frickin love the games. Awesome. "Diiibs!" haha. Ahhh man. I can't wait to play this.. Just a shame it'l be round a mates house!
wow, glad they finally got a date out, but I don't think that's set in stone. I need to get through the first through games before getting this one, I think ;)
@JustPlainLucas So far, none. I'm counting on Gears 3 justifying the existence of the Xbox in my living room this year.
My list:Dragon Age 2, The Witcher 2, Crysis 2, Dungeon Siege 3, Gears of War 3, Modern Warfare 3, Skyrim, Mass effect 3, Shogun 2, Batman Arkham City...and this is only for xbox/desktop. I have no idea what had happened if I had bought a ps3 as well
OMG! MS I hate you. I actually have to buy a 360 to play this game... when marketing and sales ploys corrupt PC gamers...
play´d both gow, gonna try this one also. And BIG KUDOS for releasing the goty edition off gow2 on xboxlive, as the only ones!!!!
