Epic Games dubs Versus Booster Map Pack a "thank you" to fans; collection of five new battlegrounds set to launch on Thanksgiving Day.
It has been an eventful day on the Gears of War 3 downloadable content front. First came news of a delay in the game's first downloadable add-on, the Horde Command Pack. That was followed by the revelation that the DLC would meet its November 1 launch date after all, and now Microsoft and Epic Games have announced that they are planning a free add-on for the third-person shooter to launch later this month.
The Versus Booster Map Pack will include five new multiplayer maps for public matchmaking. Microsoft did not detail the maps, other than to reveal their names: Swamp, Clocktower, Azura, Rustlung, and Blood Drive. Billed as a "thank you" to the series' fans, the Versus Booster Map Pack will hit the Xbox Live Marketplace on November 24, Thanksgiving Day.
The Versus Booster Map Pack is the third DLC announced, but it will be the second released. Today's launch of the Horde Command Pack kicked off the postrelease content plan for the game, and a second piece of paid DLC--RAAM's Shadow--is set for release December 13. The Horde Command Pack costs 800 Microsoft points ($10) on its own, while RAAM's Shadow will sell for 1,200 Microsoft points ($15).
Gamers can also purchase the Gears of War 3 Season Pass for 2,400 Microsoft points ($30) on Xbox Live. The pass includes access to all four of the planned add-ons as soon as they are released. If purchased separately, those packs would cost players 3,600 Microsoft points ($45).

Sooo, is Raam's Shadow included in the Season Pass? Because I don't want to have to pay more for it since I already bought the pass!
@slonekb05 I can read it, you just can't say it correctly. You're using the possessive form of "your" not the correct "you are". So I think im done picking a fight with someone who i know has a learning disability. See you later
@eclipse-015 ".. and your calling other ppl kids... pathetic. " you cant read that sentence correctly? Ok im done lol i feel like im picking on someone with a disability
@slonekb05 Actually, its pretty pathetic that you dont even know the difference between your and you're. How about before you try and make an insult, you fix YOUR terrible grammer
@guitarandbanjo Ya, isn't it ridiculous. People get so uptight about things & spout off before listening, (or reading), first.
@slonekb05 I think its time your mom and dad pulled you from your internet usage time. Parents these days...
Is Epic and Micro$oft doing this to band-aid, and quell the out-cry of people who found out that a lot of the content they paid for is already on this disc? They just paid to unlock it.
The original Gears of War map packs are now all free and the all fronts collection for Gears of War 2, which has all of the map packs for that game, is only like 15 bucks. I got it for free after being awarded 100 or so Microsoft Points every month last year as a part of their rewards system or whatever for using xbox live. Therefore, I see no reason to buy these map packs now when in a couple of years their price is going to be dropped severely. By then I may be rewarded with more Microsoft Points and get these map packs for free as well.
If by "free", you mean getting content that should have already been for free and we're just not getting charged for it, then yeah, free :) THANKS EPIC! HERP DERP~
Not that I have a problem with free map packs...that is something I loved about gears and halo that they offered at least one of the map packs for free, but it is a little frustrating that we paid for season passes and then one of the DLCs is free anyway. I realize it says for Public but that is still not nice. In the end though, I'm happy it will be free and I can't wait to jump back on Gears after I get back from school XD.
Microsoft giving away free map packs?? This is almost as big news as GTA V trailer.................also everyone who sees this comment and plays Gears, can you please NOT pick Blood Drive every single time it comes up like you did in Gears 2....thanks....................................also thanks Epic....
Thank you Epic. I love you. And to everybody complaining, pay attention to the wording. The maps will be available in Public Versus. They specified Public, which leads me to believe that if you want to use them for Beast, Horde, or Private Matches, then you need to buy them maps. And besides, this is more than most other companies do.
First we had R6:Vegas 'Red' & 'Black' map packs, then VALVe give us the Portal 2 expansion pack, and now Epic give us this, i only hope more Dev's begin to show the same levels of appreciation, but i'm not gonna hold my breath. I know that ultimately 'Its simply business', but it is nice that 'Some' devs show their appreciation and acknowledgement of their customer base.
You act like free maps are something new and exciting. They should be free for effin sakes. Shut up Gamespot.
"Free"... I wish more companies used this word more often (I'm looking at you, Activision & Capcom).
Wow, some of you people really don't pay attention do you... Yes Azura, BloodDrive & RustLung are a part of the "HORDE Command Pack". But ONLY playable in HORDE. Now as part of the free pack, they WILL be open to vs. So EPIC is not in fact ripping anybody off by giving these out this way. It is my understanding that if you don't have the Seasons Pass, or the Horde Command Pack, you will not get to play these maps in Horde. So although it may seem a bit shady & overpriced for some, in fact, they are not giving anything away for free that others already paid for. The Horde Command Pack buys them for Horde, the free pack unlocks them for Versus, simple.
That is awesome! Not to sound to corny but this is truly great news. TY Epic and M$ note to others- this is how its done Dear Activision, When i support you on 11-08-11 with a day 1 purchase of CoD:MW3, are you going to support me with a free "thank-you" map pack!?
