Gears of War 3 $30 season pass to include first four DLC packs

I am so impressed, quite the DLC pack for only 800 points. Definitely getting the seasons pass now. Thank you Epic for such a generous DLC pack, beats the hell outta Call of Duty's rip off prices for a few maps.

"Today Microsoft and Epic Games announced that Gears of War 3 is about to get even bigger with the Horde Command Pack game add-on, launching Nov. 1. The add-on includes three new maps, three new playable characters, two new weapon skins and additional achievements worth 250 Gamerscore. The Horde Command pack also includes new fortification upgrades in the fan-favorite Horde mode."

Gears of War usually has awesome DLC unlike some other games. Well worth the price and Epic is good with their baby.

dont people think that sometimes the whole DLC is a genuine extension of the game, and that the game was rammed with stuff anyway, if people genuinely would pay the £40, in English case, and thought it was worth it then paying £30 for DLC is a bargain. Yes some companies, and i look at Activision and in some cases EA ripping customers off by taking parts of the game out, but sometimes its actually genuine, so comment about it after you have the game to see if if the game they bring out was worth the money you paid for it

Or I can wait until the "ultimate edition" is released and get all that included or buy the DLC at half off when it goes on sale...of course then I wouldn't be saving money if I bought their $30 "season pass" would I?

And WHAT exactly are we expected to buy? Despite Freddy Krueger being a surprise, everyone knew that the MK DLC was characters. For all we know, this is going to be a couple skins and a map per DLC. I'd wait until they actually say what's on the DLC before you hand over the money.

@crunchb3rry - you're right, except for film sequels and redux and director's cut versions, and extended versions and Blu-ray with 20 commentaries, and downloadable TV series and Netflix, and asynchronous cinema releases and region coding, and remixes and covers and band reunions. So yeah, apart from that you do get everything on day 1

@crunchb3rry If you can't understand the "it saves money argument" it's quite simple.. you pay less Everyone makes assumptions that this would be on the disc if this was 10 years ago - i'd rather stay in this era and have games life span extended via DLC thanks

@racerch89 All successful shooter and RPG games has DLC. In some cases they are greedy and want more money so they wait a month then put it in the game. In other cases, like this one, they cant delay the game anymore to wait and put these maps into the game. It was supposed to come out back in April. What Im trying to say is, there was going to be DLC for this game either way, this is just a bonus that FEW companys do to help their lloyal fans. The only other company that I know of that does anything like this is DICE; giving you free DLC maps when you get the free version of the LE.

So how do we get it, just say i want the season pass when you go to gamestop?

Dang, this season pass is better than Age of Empire Online's... $30.00 for four batches of DLC and special weapons, versus $100.00 for a bunch of overpriced stuff.

I still can't wait for Sept 20. But I'm not sure about the season pass. Not because I think think it's overpriced, I think it's a good idea, but I've never played Gears so I'll see if I like it enough to buy the DLC. But is a limited time thing, or will the Season Pass still be for sale in the coming months?

Don't understand the defense that this pass "saves" money. Ten years ago all the crap would have been in the game on day one. Pay for it once at the standard price, get everything. DLC is a racket. No other form of entertainment media does this crap. You buy a Blu-Ray, you get the movie. You buy an album, you get all the songs. Scenes and tracks are not pulled to be sold on the side later.

The season pass is cool, I will get, just glad its not a pay-to-play as I assumed when they first announced it. Hope all the pre-order DLC skins come packed in with the upcoming DLC.

This IS the greatest game series ever made on any console. Including PC. The multiplayer is like crack, the story is an adrenaline rush...its beautiful to look at. The developers know what we want. It's a great time to be a gamer.

Guess I'm buying the season pass. IMO this is the greatest game series ever made on any console.

price tag doesnt change my opinion im supporting the best game ever created and hope epic keeps on making great gears games....

I can sympathize with what your saying... and i do feel that big corp. are simply trying to milk the consumer... but I'm confident that the third and fourth DLC will def be new though not sure if theyll be worth the price, but still if you preorder at amazon, or walmart, you recieve a 20 dollar gift card that make this 4 DLC pack only $10... coincidence maybe... I like to think that Epic and retailers are trying to benefit the hardcore fanbase... while the casual fanbase who will get the game late... and maybe purchase a DLC or two will still profit off of them as well

@jsly268 what i mean is they are deliberately releasing a half finished game to get more $$$..don't be surprised if the game was released with a half campaign or some of these DLCs are already on disc waiting to be unlocked.

And yes I do realize that large corporations i.e. Microsoft, Activision, EA, Apple, or simply any large corp. will eventually upon recieving the status quo as a seemingly "indestructible" business will eventually begin to think more of their pockets then the consumers themselves... unfortunatley thats big business... we just have to continue to stay smart and support or don't support things that are obviously shemes... but I see this as a purty good deal... and I also enjoy Bethesda as they are seemingly a large corp but seems to always realease, whether produced or developed, good games with endless fun and content... but again that's just me Have fun and I'll see yall's on GOW 3 =)

Aight I understand that some people may be mainly disgruntled at the fact that theyre able to announce that their will be DLC before the game is even released, but look at it this way if you bought a car, then someone said that you would have to not only continue to buy gas but, occasionally repair, replace, change parts, pay annually for "check-ups" which normally end up in you having to pay for something that could have honestly been fine for a while... would you complain, NO because it's to be expected Lets face it, games nowadays, especially games with a large competitive multiplayer base, i.e. COD, GOW, HALO, even games such as Fallout or Elder Scrolls are bound to have dlc thats just the way it is... and honestly it's for the best in some cases, rpgs tend to get campaign side-stories that can allow awsome quests and bonuses to keep the life of the game...

though I normally do't get them as they sometimes seem to deter from the game as if they were just "tacked" on the map as some would say... though Skyrim boasts some real in-depth expansions wich has peeked my interest... and as for compet. multi. games they often serve a purpose as the gameing company needs to have staff consistently update and work to make sure that the dedicated servers run smoothly and keep maintenence and hacker monitoring at a good level... So dlc is to be expected though sometimes could be considered a steal, such as Ninja Gaiden 2 which showed screens of "Fiend" Ryu ( my favorite outfit ) before the game was even released... So don't freak out when DLC is announced... it's to be expected just normally more subtle or annonced later... Now as for Gears of War... Sure the first dlc may have been in-game content that they arent allowing players touch till they pay again or it may honestly be generally "new" content... though I would prefer to think it the latter we can never know, but I'm optimistic that possibly the second, but def the third and fourth are going to be fresh content... And for people trying to alter the phrasing, or coy the offer into a scheme, that logic can be used in any way with just about any retail product... and often is but think of it this way...

1) if you buy the season pass you get four DLCs for $30, which is the cost for only two COD DLCs... two they did this in Gow 2 but instead of offering a discount early they did it later by making a bundle after I payed all the individual insallments... Now I don't know about you but I would personally like to be rewarded for loyalty to the franchise rather then pay upfront, and see "new" users getting discounts on stuff I had to pay almost double 2) Yeah thats a thats a $90 ticket value... but you wouldn't complain a bit if they released them in cheaper installments that totaled to $45 as you would think you got a deal... But, in the end, if you don't want the DLC, DON'T BUY IT nobody forced you too do anything, even buy this game for that matter... and I'm sure some peoplpe debating will still end up purchasing this, simply strengthening theyre so called Enemys "Movement", so if your gonna protest do it with GUSTO and I respect you a 100% as I could't hold out on I deal like this but I seriously have mad respect with people that have the will-power to do so, aside from that, in the end the game will be awsome, and $60 will get you a "Full" gaming experience depending on how much you play and enjoy the product... Come on....limited edition console...controller....three different versions of the game being released (epic, limited, standard)....and they've already planned out dlc's to bring out at future dates? How can they "plan" future dlc's...thought they were supposed to be brought out after long consideration of how the game is going? *sigh* this is becoming an expensive hobby...

Hey! Personally I dislike Microsoft and XBOX360 because they charge for everything they can figure out, but I'm a gamer and I can´t believe this. This is the kind of bullsh** that is taking the videogame industry right to the doom. I really can't figure why people keep supporting this DLC thing but I can figure where this is going to end. Just wait some years and you will see... if nowdays the companies are telling us: "Hey fu** fanboy consumer, here's your game, it will cost you $60 but if you really want to enjoy cool features that the game lacks, you will have to pay other $30... oh! and that is because we are nice and we love you all, cause in some weeks it gonna cost you 45.." in the future we will have to pay for every single level we want to play, we will have to pay for a subscription to play a game, we will have to pay for a virtual copy of the game instead of a physical one... people will end paying a fortune just to play a game because the companies are rearranging the way they sell, internet is their way to go nowdays! This is outstanding, and we can tank this to all young, lame fanboys who actually support this with no problems because they think its normal. Im 18, but I wont leave anyone steal me. Jeez guys, chill. I hate to be nickle and dimed as much as anyone, but this isn't the online play pass/new/used game fiasco. If you get $60 worth of game, and then they release $45 worth of extra value and give it to us for $30, cool! Don't expect to get $105 worth of value for $60. I can't believe that anyone would say GOW3 isn't a good value at $60. My only concern is that they don't say what the add-ons are, and 90% of past content was Maps, which I have no interest in. If you don't like developers spending extra time and money to make additional content for the game, then don't buy the DLC! Problem solved.

Keep buying this, guys. Just wait until you see how bad it gets 10 years from now. I've already given up on the industry. I also like how Gamespot doesn't even criticize this kind of practice.

@ammathil You asked, "How is saving $15 a ripoff?" It only looks like saving to you because the regular price is higher by comparison. Imagine if regular price was $200. Would you be cheering because you saved $170? Same prices, different perspective: buy it now for $30, or buy it later with a $15 waiting penalty.

how is charging $30 for things after the fact that could have been included for free not gouging? Frankly Oblivion and it's $2.50 horse armor proved this...we the people will buy anything... "save $15"...hurry hurry!

@DrOoLeR11 I appreciated your answer listing all of the things being included in the game, but I've still got to disagree. Sequels have extra stuff - it's one of the basic laws of gaming. If you look at pretty much every sequel that comes out it comes with extra things. Even the old school worms games had extra features. My point here is that Microsoft have said there will be at least four add-ons. Four!! If they have that many "planned" already why not just include some on the disc? It just seems to me like they're releasing the content later to make more money. My point before was that if it was genuinely an expansion pack like Rockstar did with Grand Theft Auto, or Blizzard did with World of Warcraft it would be fair enough. But you know it's not going to be. They're going down the same route that EA has gone. You'll buy the game and then a week later an add-on will come out. It's money-making at it's most obvious. But because you all keep buying it they're going to keep doing it.

I also think that offering the ability to purchase DLC, that most people would buy anyway, early at a discount is rewarding those who are committed to the series; instead of rewarding the people who could care less about the content and waited a year or more for it to go on sale. I understand that many are hesitant bc they don't know waht the content will intale. Which is a valid fear that I don't disagree with, but for people have already decided that they would buy the content regardless (like myself) I don't see a problem in getting a little incentive for getting it early. I mean I made up my mind that I was going to get all of the DLC when I preordered my EE.

@warhawk-geeby Ok I can understand the people would be annoyed, but at what point do you call the game complete? I mean the game has a longer storymode than ever before, an arcade mode that will allow you to compete against your friends, a new beast mode that people have been talking about since playing horde mode in 2008, a new and improved horde mode, warzone execution wingman KOTH CTL and TDM, plus 10 maps to play all the MP modes on, and allowing people more characters and weapon skins to diversify the game experience. I see a lot of people saying "well they took 2 maps out that were in the leaked version", so they think they are entitled to something that was only see due to an ILLEGALLY PIRATED prebeta version of the game. Please be real, that version of was a testing bank for epic for balancing purposes. All of the content on disc IMO is more than enough for the $60 price point.
