GameStop seeing 'strong demand' for PlayStation 4

Retailer reveals 600,000 PowerUp Rewards members have signed up for First to Know List for upcoming next-generation platform.
The PlayStation 4 is resonating well with GameStop shoppers. The retailer has announced that more than 600,000 of its PowerUp Rewards members have signed up for the PS4 First to Know List, indicating "strong demand" for the upcoming next-generation platform.
"With only a glance at the PS4, gamers are excited and eager to know more," GameStop president Tony Bartel said in a statement. "Within just a few weeks, more than 600,000 people have signed up, showing strong demand for this new console."
In addition, Sony Computer Entertainment America president and CEO Jack Tretton said the reaction at GameStop means the "promise of PS4 is resonating with gamers." He said more information about the platform will be shared in the coming months.
The PS4 will launch this holiday season, though Sony has yet to announce a price for the platform. GameStop is not accepting preorders for the console, and signing up for the First to Know List does not guarantee a unit at launch.

1 Like Yes, because the sales person FORCES people to sign up at Gamestop. I had to be like "no your not" when he said he was going to sign me up for this "first to know" marketing campaign.
No thanks, I already have a Facebook, I don't need a system focused more on social networking, and less on the games. They already shot themselves in the foot with me over the no carry over from PSN purchases which is a freaking crock and makes no since.
Man Eddie is a good journalist. He stays very unbiased and when he does give his bias, he is always optimistic.
Running should be on a trigger or a button and not an analog system. This is something I just can't get used to with consoles. Fix it. Let me tap a button to go in run mode and then tap it again to get out of it.

@DeViLzzz Ever heared of tilt instead of going all the way? i like my 3rd person games on PC with a gamepad they just blend well.
Anyway doesnt sound like gamepads are your things aka dont bother playing games that depend on it,,,,
@MJ-X I think it is ok for me to ask that they give options for movement other than just using a stick and as for gamepads not being my thing well when I was younger and played games they had way less buttons and no analog sticks. It was simpler. I guess if I put more time in playing I might get better but movement was made easier I would get better sooner.
1 Like @DeViLzzz @MJ-X Actually, it's really not ok for you to ask for a movement option other than the stick for gamepads. It's an industry standard. You would be asking not only console makers but just about every console game developer to change the way games are designed just to suit your limited gaming abilities... no offense. I started off at the age of 3 playing Atari. By the time the NES came along, a joystick was pretty much just an extension of my hand, but a crosspad... totally foreign to me. Basically, I sucked. However I kept playing until I got used to it and started getting my form back with the new configuration. It wasn't long before I was back to it being second nature. If you push past your frustration and keep at it, you will get the hang of the analogue stick, and trust me, you'll find that it suits certain games much better than a mouse and keyboard.
5 Like @DeViLzzz Maybe you'd like a button where the game plays itself to totally save you the bother of "playing" at all.
@TTDog Where did I say I wanted the game to play by itself ? I just find running to not be simple when using an analog stick and the thing is it isn't just about pushing it in a direction you actually press down and then do it and I find much of the time it isn't responsive. Also for the record it is common in games for things other than an analog stick being used for running. On pc you often have to hit the shift key along with the movement key and in some console games of the past you did hit a button to run. I am not asking for anything impossible to put in place nor is it something that hasn't been done before and can't be done again.
@TTDog It is a more skillful act but it doesn't work as well as it should in my opinion and thus people should have options.
@DeViLzzz: Then instead of blaming the controllers analog stick for your incompetence play games on a medium that caters for all the clumsy, inept people... the PC. Using stick to control pace of movement is a much more skilful act than pressing a button, it may have been done in the past but games were more like you back then... simple.
If GameStop/EB Games wants me to buy a new upcoming console they better have the pre-order up for it sooner than for the Wii U launch. I was very disappointed that we had like 3 months at most to pay on it.
I can get whatever information I need here. I don't trust information coming from a company who wants to sell me one. They won't give me the negatives.

2 Like Wrong. That's not strong demand, that's wanting info when it first comes out so we know when the PS4 won't suck anymore. I signed up exclusively so I'd know when they start releasing good games. I have 0 interest in buying a PS4 for another overrated Killzone game and an inFamous game, indie games, and ports of existing games (and Diablo 3 shouldn't even be a console game...) Plus, the lack of backwards compatibility (including PSN games) could be a real killer for me, as I wouldn't be able to sell my PS3 to help pay for a PS4 which already costs far too much for hardly any technical improvements. I'll definitely be waiting at least a year to buy it regardless, or whenever it has its first significant price drop.
@IGFGAThrawn "Hardly any technical improvements" you say. On what planet do you live? I agree with you on backwards compatibility, but I also understand the reasons why it isn't there and that's mostly because of technical improvements (completely different architecture).
3 Like Lets' face it. Sony this time is doing everything right. From the HW, to the SW and network services, to the marketing. And coming out much before the Next Box, whatever that will be, really slapped MS in the face!

I know nothing about this universe, nothing about the source material, nothing about the creators, but man the trailer alone has me very excited about this game.
The reason this is such an obviously pointless article is because of who wrote it. I haven't seen anything like this on any of the other sites.

@daniel_chacon I am in the same boat, but I don't think I am going to wait 2 years for it. Although I am pretty sure once the PS4 really gets going I won't even touch my PS3.
@mariokart64fan Shame the WiiU is actually just 6 years late for the current generation.
And when you see the footage of PS4 titles, knowing that the next Xbox will be capable of producing similar, you can see why developers can't jump ship from the WiiU quick enough.

2 Like Hah that's funny.. I just got home from gamestop and was asking them about pre-ordering the ps4 but they said it's just a "first to know list" so... I signed up. Now I see this article lol. I'm pretty sure everyone on the list is gonna purchase it day one. Cause I am. And I can't wait!
The amount of people on this list has no significance. All it shows is how many people have heard about it. Anybody, even the most die-hard Nintendo fanboy, would want to know about a new console, even if they have no intentions on buying it.

What most of us want to know is the design of the system,
The price of the console.
the rest of the unannounced specs and the combination with Gaikai Streaming functions.
And ofcourse more games..
2 Like this doesn't mean the demand for the system is high, that means people are like me right now, saying i really want to know as much as possible before i ever decide to purchase it, lets talk price, full hardware specs, and more games before i decide to put my hard earned money down. so hopefully there is some good reveals because i currently have no desire to buy this console.
