Today, GameSpot announced the acquisition of SportsGamer.com. Founded in May 2006, the New York City- and Cincinnati-based site focuses exclusively on mainstream sports games, including FIFA soccer, NFL Football, Major League Baseball, and NASCAR racing.

Unlike most review- and preview-centric sites, SportsGamer specializes in gameplay strategy and tips, including video gameplay tutorials. It also provides online stats, leaderboard tracking, and forums for its growing community.

"I'm really excited to have SportsGamer as part of the GameSpot team," said GameSpot Senior Editor Brian Ekberg. "The site's intense focus on postrelease coverage of the biggest sports titles is just one of the things that sets it apart. In the coming months, we hope to expand the reach of both our sites to continue to bring readers the best sports game coverage around."

I'm curious to know how much they acquired it for...

Let's hope GS.com won't do stupid changes like the new reviews system by making everything "more simple, cause we (the readers) are not smart enough".

The bigger, the better...Long live gamespot.

I think this is going to be a great addition to the site

French023 5 pts

gamespot needed somthing like this! I'm really excited

telvisnostic 6 pts

Sounds interesting. I basically only like sports games so that new site is a plus for me.

NinjaMunkey01 5 pts

just to say I was looking at the forums and someones message has been hidden for saying "cool". does gamespot actually look at others messages before deducting points and hiding messages? weird...

I just hope they relay the information here. I love GS and im sure the site is great (big fan of sports games) However im hoping they dont keep all the exclusive stuff to that site alone nwo that its a borther/sister site of GS. Anyway keep up the good work fella's, sites great.

I had 2000+ posts there until I retired/got banned. But I couldn't stay away long, so I made a secondary account...still not as good as www.thebreakaway.net

Great, now show GameTrailers who is boss!

that might be the last nail in Operationsports.com's coffin

So will this be integrated in gamespot or will the page stay? I don't really see the need of having two different game sites to visit, if the same company owns it. This would go great with the new gamespaces. Plus, the statistics would be a great addition to our gamespot accounts...

You know what would be cool - getting sports games a subsite to themselves. I hate sports games and always have while others love them and always will. Put them in different sections because I'm sick of hearing about fricking Madden (and EA games in general) when I don't give a rat's ass if the 2007 version has 2 more players than 2006.

Raykuza 5 pts

I may hate sports games, but an expansion of GS is good no matter what. :D

Great news! It's a wonderful thing to see the site expanding. I just hope it don't take from the good thing GAMESPOT already has! Congrats! - Gods of plunder

SAT analogy time. EA is to video games as GameSpot is to: A) .... Aw, screw it.

Reetesh 6 pts

Very nice move :D hope they dont "unite" the message boards like during GameFAQs.

dryden555 5 pts

curious news. The gamefaqs merger several years ago didnt seem to be a good or bad thing.

Daytona_178 5 pts

Go forth Gamespot, divide and conquer!

I look foward to see how this unfolds...

donscrillinger 5 pts

i agree with GKILLA G4tv is now trash what happend to the games .

seg555 5 pts

I hope gamespot buy out g4. G4 was good at the bigging which was a channel about video games, but lately all that is on g4 is crap. X play was a good show but now it is ****

musicaz70 5 pts

well, i hate sports games. but the idea of strategies and tips thing i think is really great. man i want a site like that for shooters and mmo's [there sort of are ones for mmo's but their all so unorganized]

FlashCharge 6 pts

Will look forward to this new expansion for Gamespot.

bgres077 5 pts

Why don't you guys work on getting rid of the bugs before buying out other sites?

Brainkiller05 5 pts

GameSpot is taking over the world :D

bigmick07 5 pts

this is a very good aquisition, because now gamespot doesn't have to worry to much about the 30-40 sports games that come out each year.

gobigred40 5 pts

DIdn't this used to be maddennation.com?

jord121290 5 pts

"why this is relevant to gaming? Because last time I checked Gamespot wasn't a sports outlet." Uh?? It's a site about sports games, so of course its relevant to gaming.

kalkhaja 5 pts

Good move by GameSpot, I wanted more sport articles and previews!

HyperMetaDragon 5 pts

Hopefully it's merged with the Sports part for GameSpot.

GameSpot is becoming the EA of websites (well, GS is still quality though). Earth is next!
