I stopped moderating largely in part due to the merge and other choices at the time. Years upon years late, but still nice to see the change. I don't mind GameFAQ's, but it is what it is and is entirely different from GS. It should be much more tight knit now.
GameSpot and GameFAQs forums split.
Hello GameSpot members.
It had to happen at some point. We lived in separate universes. Our moments together were often fragile, but today is the day we had to break it off.
GameSpot has split off from the GameFAQs mirrored forums on all gamespaces, and the GameFAQs logo no longer has GameSpot. You will now be directed to one of the following depending on whether or not a series or game board was created: genre board, game series board, or game board (all platforms). However, you can visit the GameFAQs mirrored boards by going to a gamespace and clicking the platform boards.
We also have a board requests forum dedicated to your suggestions.
With these changes you should notice the following:
- You'll begin to notice familiar faces from other forums on GameSpot.
- New boards dedicated to your favorite genres!
- Embed video enabled, but use the newer embed codes.
- Quick quote and reply on these boards function properly!
- GameSpot community team can assist you with requests or moderation issues.
- GameFAQs members will no longer report you for broken spoiler tags, and more!
I am in the process of removing all of my gamespot favorites right now, and will not use gamefaqs. The ability of being able to have all information regarding a title (forums, reviews, updates, news, etc.) all in one spot was the reason why I chose to use this service, and no other. Now that I have to navigate between two different websites to get this info, is not worth it to me. There are plenty of other websites offering the one-stop-shop of info I am looking for. Too bad, gamespot had a really good formula going here, not sure why they'd move forward with such a blunder as this.
Well I always used gamefaqs directly anyhow. So no effect on me. I only check gamespot for the professional reviews anyhow.
GameSpot merging with GameFaqs was THE. WORST. POSSIBLE. THING!
GameSpot breaking up with GameFaqs is THE. WORST. POSSIBLE. THING!
Just wait until they decide to merge the GameSpot board with GameTrailers board, now that will be THE. WORST. POSSIBLE. THING!
when I subscribed to gamespot, I did, in part because of the forums and the community here. Now I have to go to Gamefaqs to post? This is not good. I don't like their website. Its bare and there isn't much traffic so we don't get many quick replies.
This really sucks
I am also going back to IGN.
This is crap. So they split. Why in the friggin h*** can't we post on game specific forums on THIS site instead of having to go to Gamefaqs. I don't like Gamefaqs at all because you hardly get many replies to your posts and I just don't care for the overall layout. Screw it, I'm going back to IGN if I can't post on my favorite games.
I am, have been, and always will be a GameSpot user, but now there really isn't a way for me to post on individual games anymore because I don't want to use that other site So please GameSpot you have to get your own individual game forums. Please, please, please.
Seriously? This is just going to be more of a hassle having to switch sites to post in the forums (you know, the ones that actually have topics). Oh well.
@Midnightshade29, Agreed. While I am more active here the benefit of GFaq forums was that they let you see archived topics on less than newer titles. GS would always mysteriously get rid of them.
Hey @TazmanianD GameFAQs explains what happens here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/6-message-board-announcements/62336098
This really screwed me over in terms of my dedication to Gamespot. After Armored Core V came out I had to use GameFAQs just to talk about proper mech builds, just because nobody is on the Gamespot forums. I vastly prefer Gamespot though, I just wish the talkative GameFAQS community would convert :(
You know, I'm kind of confused. I can still access all the GF boards from here and I can still post to them so I'm not really sure what changed.
This straight out sucks..why? Because gamspot forums never show old posts. Which is frustrating for someone like me who plays games that aren't always new. If a forum isn't active gamespot has always shown a blank forum. But Gamefaqs will show all posts from when the game came out. Example: I just got class of heroes for psv/psp and its 3 years old. Nothing on Gamespot forums, but if I go to gamefaqs I see 100s of posts with information on class builds and tips and all sorts of past discussion. I miss the "look on gamefaq" button. Why did you guys do this? Oh yeah, gs forums suck for posting, all the error messages from unlcosed HTML tags that aren't unclosed... Fix your crap GS!
I liked the game specific boards from Gamefaqs. Seems like the fanbase would be too small for a lot of games to sustain a board of it's own.
I guess I'm mixed. The GameFaqs board functionality totally sucks and is in the dark ages but most of the boards I frequent are dominated by GF users so now I feel like I've lost a large portion of my community.
Whatever you do, DON'T make game-specific forums. You'll have to do that for every game and that will only bog down your site. Your site has more than enough glitched to keep track of. :P
Hm, well, that explains why the boards have disappeared. I'll be happy to see some fixes to forum function, but I do wonder how much the population was just cut.
JodyR: GameFAQs users wouldn't recognize an intelligent argument if it was given in a Stephen Hawking lecture. I came to Gamespot in the first place because the GameFAQs mods were dumb, so now I don't have to put up with them anymore. With a single exception, I find Gamespot mods to be altogether more intelligent, helpful, and reasonable.
Finally. Does this mean now that we can report posts and gamespot moderation staff will be able to deal with them?
I'm kind of confused about this. How exactly do I get back to the regular site? Kind of a dumb question, I know, but every time I come here it keeps giving me this message and I'm not real knowledgeable with mirror sites. Thanks in advance.
Something i was hoping for a long time. I also took the liberty of starting the first topic so hopefully it is the correct way to do it. :P
Just wanted to point out that the shared boards technically haven't "split" yet, so you might still get moderated by a GameFAQs moderator on a shared board for now. No worries on the new GameSpot only boards though. :) Just look for "Forums provided courtesy of GameFAQs." at the top of a board to know if it's one of ours or not. Those links will be removed completely once the split is finalized.
Well, I have always preferred the GameSpot boards over GameFAQs, so this is welcome news. In a way, I feel like GameSpot just dumped the "skanky" girl that you would see in high school these days. Amusing story! :P
