Latest set of financials from the company reveal its Digital Entertainment division sales up 5.2 percent, operating income up 16.8 percent.
Tokyo-based Konami has revealed its latest set of figures for its fiscal first quarter, which ended June 30.
Consolidated net revenues increased in all three of the company's sections, and the Digital Entertainment division (which includes games) led the way, with growth in this area attributed to "brisk sales."
Total net revenues clocked in at 60.7 billion yen (approx $509 million), a 5.2 percent increase over the previous year. Consolidated operating income was up 16.8 percent to 7 billion yen ($59 million) over Q1 last year, with the increase in operating income from the Digital Entertainment sector given as the main factor.
Net income was also up a whopping 82.2 percent from last year's Q1 figures, to 3.9 billion yen ($33 million).
The Digital Entertainment sector of the company enjoyed an 8.6 percent increase over the first quarter of last year, and net revenues totalled 34.8 billion yen ($292 million).
In Konami's domestic Japanese market, baseball titles were a big hit, including Puroyakyu Spirits 4 and Jikkyou Pawafuru Puroyakyu Portable 2, both of which recorded strong sales. Konami titles that sold well overseas include the Pro Evolution Soccer series in Europe, as well as Eledees/Elebits and Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops.
Amusement machine product sales "remained steady," and titles that were doing well included Mah-Jong Fight Club 6, Pop'n Music 15 Adventure, and Euroqueen, the seventh instalment of Galaxyworld.
In April 2007, the company launched an online game called Busou Shinki Battle Rondo--based on the Busou Shinki action-figures series--along with a virtual aquarium called Aquanaut: Online Aquarium.
Konami also continued to expand its health and fitness arm, and the company opened seven new health facilities. It also launched two new health gadgets at the Health & Fitness Japan 2007 trade fair: the Shin Aerobike, which calculates what amount of exercise is right for the user, and Grove Motion DDR, a "digital studio program."
This is happening to most digital entertainment companies. But Konami has done well so hats off to them, they've released what the Japanese wanted and made it good.
Konami is a great example of how succesful the Japanese games is. I love your games Konami. Keep 'em comin'!
Why that there was no announcement in Konami 's Metal Gear 20th Anniversary event in Japan. 360 users are desperate. Woops! buy PS3 if you want to play MGS. "Triple_H90" will escape later about Tokyo Game Show.
yeah gpt tired of being the good guy. to be honest beleave it or not i have the ps3 so im just trying to have some fun lol........ although it is getting annoying with having to buy all these systems. i keep saying im gonna quit buying new consoles and low and behold i get hooked again.... lol
well this article was pointing out Konami's positive financial situation. why should an issue of financial loss over MGS4 be relevent here? this is only pointing in the favorable direction of PS3 exclusivity. it's not like everything at konami is riding on sales of MGS4. also, I thank you for reffering back to me with capital letters. are you doing a supervillian impression? I like the drama. :p
no i dont have to justify myself not to you .not anyone. that will be the day lol.... maybe its you who needs to justfy yourself. cause you speak as if you know mr kojima himself, and unless you got some absolute inside info you need to watch what your saying...... MORDRED 19!
bxentinel, don't be like the ignorant folk who throw the word "truth" around like it's a weapon. "truth-this, and truth-that. I justify myself if I say 'truth' enough times"
Konami never fails to deliver great titles to its name, and with MGS 4 on the way its pretty clear that Konami is doing a great job in sustaining there economical side.
oh and marcus blu ray dosent mean a thing until you have numbers. you speak as if mgs4 is gonna fill every bit of the game. until you tech specs you should pass judgement!
people in this business say exclusive this and that but we all know exclusive isnt what it use to be. so dont beleve everything you read dmfreak!
dmfreak , You said it like it was meant 2 be said. Take care and i will see u online.Or at a Burger king or something?LOL Just repeat that comment and I'll know its you.
ok i'm sick and tired of this "360 MGS4" crud. although i forgot the link of this news i saw weeks ago, THE VP OF MICROSOFT HIMSELF ALSO CONFIRMED THAT THERE WILL BE NO MGS4 FOR THE 360 EVER. i'm not talking like a sony fanboy, honest, but please enough with that trashy talking 360 fanboys. and besides, are you gonna buy a 360 MGS4 which spans 4 dual layer dvd's? man it's like playing final fantasy 8. if you really want MGS4, just save some money and go buy a PS3 that's all.
BXSENTINEL, True but iam not referring to words that were set in stone only Blu-ray! Bluray+cell > double talk+speculation/hopes&dreams
bad news for sony fans here we go like 3 hours ago the ceo of konami sed that mgs4 will be out in september28 08 and they still think it mey go multy console plus any ways did mgs1 mgs 2 or mgs3 sell consoles cuz they did good but nothing special in faqt gears of war sell more then mgs3 and same as mgs1 and now thise time around ps3 is only about 4 millions word wide sold to costumers and ps2 whas 120 millions so think about it just think
Actually, I think sony is covering up some of MGS4's development costs. And besides, MGS4 will sell a RETARDED amount on ps3.
Lol. I wonder how much profit they gained/lossed from their card game division (j/k: Yu-Gi-Oh). I'm unashamed to admit, I am a fan of the license (pre-GX era, of course), but the card game is overflowing in flaws, and most all of those flaws come from what seems like Konami's inability (or simply having no clue how) to run a non-electronic game or playing card game. Which is why, when figures go up from the company, I always wonder how much was made or lossed by the company's own ineptitude in that division. From the company that has put out some of the best game series ever made, it's dissappointing not seeing the same love and quality dispersed evenly across everything they do. I mean, you have both Metal Gear and Silent Hill, which alone make the company legend, and that's whithout even mentioning other greats (Contra, etc.). Spread the brilliance around some, huh, lol.
well while bioshock may be popular i think its safe to say mgs4 would be much more desired buddy. and wait until 360 drops the price and fixes the chips. if 5 million ps3 are out their imagine xbox numbers.
Jeez, I didn't even know Konami had made any games recently, and now that I know what's selling I can't really say I care for those games. I'm still looking forward to both MGS4 and SH5.
if it is all about MORE profit, then why aren't all third party games multiplatform? why isn't bioshock going to the PS3? there are at least 5 million PS3s in peoples' hands. irrational could make more profit, see? sometimes, games just don't do what would make the most money.
How did this article about Konami doing well turn into a Flame war? Typical 360 fanboy: LOL J00 SONY FANBOYS sux LIEK TEH 360 WILL GET MGS4 AND I BASE THIS OVER NOTHING!!!!!!!111 Seriously, shut up already.
that's good but if they want to grow to capcom's level they have to do what capcom did and make more multiplet games coughmgscough
Umm the things is dosent Hideo Kojima own konami, so does have a little say in what happen with MGS4.
MGS4 will come to 360. You all Sony fanboys know it and are very sad. I understand. Now you have nothing left. SONY FANBOYS, I'm sorry, but PS3 is not getting this exclusively either. At the Tokyo Game Show in September Konami will announce MGS4 for 360. Just wait and see.
Isn't MGS4 supposed to be upwards of about 50 gigs. That will be a tough game to port onto 360. I personally would like to see it on one disc rather than play it on about 8. Plus the dude uses a PS3 controller in the trailers. No port, which is sad. Go buy a PS3 for MGS4. What a waste of hard earned cash.
seeing as you work for konami entertainment i could see how you would know what they are thinking. ASSUMING you are a smart business man and wouldnt wanna double your profit...... remember what was said by a konami excutive.... IF ps3 dosent show big numbers they MAY have to port mgs4.....oopss i guess you sony fans ignore that. or maybe kojima is really the owner of konami studios.... oh my bad, thats it. kojima is the boss.... why didnt you let everyone know...... he supplies the millions.....
konami isn't even going to pull ANY strings. they don't need to. they don't need MGS4 to be multiplat. 360 fanboys are exaggerating the advantage of MGS4 on 360. like they aren't going to make any profit off of MGS4 on the PS3, assuming THAT is a sad thing.
