Double Helix's third-person shooter spin on Square Enix's decade-old turn-based franchise suffers second delay; bumped back two weeks to September 28.
The evolution process is taking longer than expected for Square Enix and Double Helix. The publisher/developer duo today pushed back the release date for Front Mission Evolved. The game will now hit the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, where it will also be available in stereoscopic 3D, on September 28.
Originally penciled in for a spring 2010 release, Front Mission Evolved was delayed to September 14 in late May. The title is the first in the franchise's 15-year history that will feature a fundamental change in genre. It will swap turn-based tactical strategy for more action-oriented third-person mechanics, with Irvine, California-based developer Double Helix responsible for the conversion.
Square Enix didn't provide an explanation for the delay but did announce preorder bonuses for those who reserve the game at select national retailers. Those who put down money for the game at GameStop, Amazon, or Best Buy will receive two Front Mission wanzer tanks. The "Calm" wanzer is equipped for both melee and long-ranged combat, and the "Rexon" mech is a sniper-type warrior.
In the game, players will assume the role of engineer Dylan Ramsey and take control of two-legged wanzer tanks as they fight through the game's single-player experience. Ramsey will use the customizable war machines to thwart a terrorist threat against the government's orbital elevator. In addition to the single-player campaign, players can take the fight online and pit their customized wanzers against global opponents.

am I the only one who could careless about 3d games? Seriously unless you have a ton of cash to blow on a 3d compatible tv why waste the money to make a game to play with that feature? I could be wrong and there could be a market in this era where unemployment is rapidly increasing and house foreclosures are just made up proganda used by the governments of the us to support more spending... who knows who knows...
Oh com'on ,not another FPS FM should stay where it is, Game series that was first released in Japan has turned to crap these days, Final Fantasy ,for example.
The Mech Combat genre had it's days. Back on the Playstation with the original Armored Core, or maybe as close as MechAssault for the original Xbox, but that genre seems to be done. All we're getting are mimics instead of the real experience, which is sad, because MechAssault was revolutionary.
Yeah it really is too bad Square Enix keeps ruining classic franchises.In fact Front Mission 3 is actually one of my favorite games of all time,too bad Front Mission Evolved is just another third person shooter. Yeah as everyone has be saying for a while we don't need another armored core.
Armored core anyone? How original! The tactical/strategy aspect was the ONLY thing that set it apart. Instead they ditched that and went to a straight AC rip, and AC has been doing horrible for years. What are they thinking?
I have a feeling this is going to be another bargain bin game like FM 4 was. FM was popular because it was unique.
While I am interested in seeing it be more like it's high octane cinematics, I just hope it as bad as Front Mission 4 on the PS2. It seriously got bogged down in boring sub-plots and disappointing action. Any additional time needed to make it "great" would be great in my book.
Smart move, Square Enix. Halo: Reach would have raped you if you kept the date Sept 14.
Good. More polish is always good and releasing it on the same day as Reach was just a dumb idea. They're still too close. They should push it back to after Christmas.
Sounds intriguing, but I'm gonna wait to see how it is. I have too many other games I need to play first :)
i just wish it was at least part rpg, no buy. and i want to support this dying franchise, i really do.
all strategy games are being turned to shooters now. I blame 13 years old trigger happy kids
@ blackwingzero this already has average graphics so check that in your list. I dont like to be pessimistic but square doesn't have a good history in the action genra :(

Congrats, now there's no need for strategy it seems .... I'll pass. Too many others have done this ... and they did it better.
Dur, Gamespot, check your facts. This is the second action-based Front Mission game. The first was Gun Hazard for the SNES.
I am already back logged on a bunch of great games. I still have Mass Effect unopened. I have not opened FFXIII which I got for my bday in April... because I still need to START FFXII.... and I really want to wait until I finally finish FFVIII!!!! I also have a FF tactics game save near the end, but have not completed it yet!!!! I still have to finish campaign on Gears of War 2 (the game is better on Co-op and I have trouble getting my friends online to play it) And with games like Halo: Reach Fable III and Rock Band 3 coming out this fall... I don't see how I will get to even play Front Mission (I have played #4 and the DS remake of #1, and enjoyed both... so I am a fan... just not a big enough fan).
I have a feeling that this will fall through the cracks a bit when it hits, I already have Halo Reach on hold as well as Fallout New Vegas and I plan on picking up Mafia II when it comes out..... I hope FM Evolved does well, on a gameplay standpoint I hope it taps into some of what made Armored Core so great on PSX and PS2..... From Software totally screwed over a great franchise when they brought it over to the new consoles......

I'm worried at this point that this will turn into just another run of the mill shooter with average graphics based on what is shown in the developer dairy.
Fine hold it back another couple of weeks, spit and polish this sucker till it GLOWS, fans will still hate it and newbs wont even care thinking its an Armored Core knockoff. Good Job Squenix. I Still have a shrad of hope though, give me an epic storyline and tug at my heartstrings while i trample my mettalic feet through a bustling super city of the future. Give me that and i will be able too hold my head high enough too buy this game.
couldnt care less. Front Mission 3 was one of the best games I ever played in my life. who cares if you take a great name and just strap it to a totally new game that has nothing to do with the other games. Call it Mech Warrior Next, or Mech Assault Bla Bla, or Big Robots. It doesn't matter what you call it cause, this simply is NOT front mission.
when i played front mission on a friend's ps2, it had terrible ai. hopefully this one will be better.
Customization looks coo but other then that it sorta looks like the mech-games that came out last gen.. I don't see anything really "new" here.
