Friday Wrap-Up

By Synthia Weires

Wrap-up of the events for August 15-19.

Time for the Friday wrap-Up! In case you have missed the news and are wondering what happened to your classic Weekly Report, we made some changes to the old thing. It is now the Daily Report, where we will be offering different updates for different days. And Friday is your wrap-up of the events that happened during the week.

Call of Duty: XP Ticket Giveaway
Because of the limited number of tickets available, it is important for you to submit your awesome entry before it's too late. You have until August 23 to click "like" and subscribe. Don't forget that submitting a text or video response improves your chances.

Plants vs. Zombies Giveaway
We finish up our Plants vs. Zombies video featuring Sophia Tong, Jody Robinson, and Synthia Weires, where if you submit your video response, you have a chance to win some awesome and exclusive PVZ swag.

Sophia: Diary of a Minecraft BlockHead
Sophia talks about the Minecraft Community Game Night, along with sharing screenshots of the game night. Will we be having another Minecraft Game Night? Only time will tell, but my hunch is "yes."

Gamescom Kicks Off
We said auf wiedersehen and shipped Maxwell and Shaun off to Germany where they have been bringing us the latest game coverage. They will be covering all that Gamescom has to offer from August 17 through August 21.

Blog Bunker
Tuesdays gets the bloggers noticed. This week's flavor seems to be all over the map with stuff about the Wii, Star Wars, Bastion, and more!

Visual Entertainment
Wednesdays are now dedicated to the art of video entertainment. We will be showcasing videos that have made it to the YouTube GameSpot Spotlight, courtesy of the Video Virtuosos.

Reader Reviews
Thursdays are now dedicated to the art of the review, where we feature the week's Top 100 and Top 500 and reviews for games that belong to our "Most Popular" list.

Well, that just about sums up this week. Be sure to check back on Monday for next week's activities, events, and attractions.

Way to try and spoil the surprise@JodyR :P Don't worry I have a member spotlight in the works, but its pretty massive. As for the Union Spotlight I'll be doubling up on them this week. But trust me they are still there ;)

Did the Union/Member Spotlight come to a pause?

@-Saigo-: Did you get a chance to see the post she had that displays those who are on the popular games list? Synthia already thought about that, and she mentioned a new emblem for general review posters, I think.

@Super-Poke-Bros: Shoot!!!! I think she forgot to include union of the week and member spotlight. That means she's gonna have to DOUBLE up the member spotlight and union of the week next week, I expect a special graphic over this @synthia !

@Super-Poke-Bros Agreed! Embed youtube stuff is a MUST! We are thinking about that, but feel free to post stuff in my recent blog about that too.

I like it like this. Something new everyday, yet it's still weekly if you just want to read it on Friday. It's great that GameSpot has been so involves in YouTube... but I think you should let us embed YouTube videos in our blog posts. Also, what about Member Spotlight?

I love the new format and I think focusing on one aspect of the site per day will be a change for the better. However, I am a little frustrated about top 100, top 500, and top 10 games reviews being the only reviews getting attention. Maybe I don't understand things fully but I don't want to read the same reviews from the same people week in and week out. What about everyone else posting solid reviews for slightly older games? Or what about the reviewers without the emblem? Besides, how many good, and often unnoticed, reviews must someone write on a consistent basis to be deemed worthy of the emblems? I believe that those with the emblems should get priority posting, but I hope that those without out it still have a chance of getting their quality reviews, even if they're for older games, posted on the community blog.
