Four more for Euro VC
This week sees the release of Streets of Rage for the Nintendo Wii's download centre.
Last week, Europeans got access to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the Wii's Virtual Console. This week four more titles have been released, including Sega's Streets of Rage, for European Wii owners.
Streets of Rage was originally released in 1991 for the Sega Mega Drive, and was the first game in the trilogy. The street fighting game for one or two players has gamers playing ex-cops who have taken the law into their own hands.
Also released today is role-playing game Sword of Vermilion, originally released on the Sega Mega Drive, where players battle to save the world of Vermilion, and 2D side-scrolling shoot-'em-up Biohazard Battle, also a Sega Mega Drive game.
The final title on the list is Chew Man Fu for TurboGrafx, a one- to two-player game of 550 rounds in which players must battle to fight a curse to rob the world of tasty snacks.
All this week's titles cost 800 Wii Points, except Chew Man Fu, which weighs in at 600 points.
Street of Rage! Awesome. Was a great game but annoyed me when I used to press A by accident and then you call for backup when you don't need it :/
Nice.
I love Streets of Rage 2. I think that was the best of the three, but I cannot see that game ever being on xbox live arcade. It just doesn't suit it.
Euro Wii... Yikes.
I hope Streets of Rage 2 comes out on the xbox live arcade.
Streets of Rage rules, i'd like to see it be remade for the Wii, and keep it's 2D form somehow.
Why all this hate over news for Europe and the UK? Since there is a lot of people, like me from there, and we use this site as much as people from the US, so it's only right that they report news from there and they have open Gamespot UK to help that. We also get told about the Virtual Console games on the Official Nintendo site here so that's where Gamespot must be getting them, and it's about time we starting getting games before the rest of the world, Nintendo is putting a lot more effort into Europe than Sony in that respect.
Streets of Rage 1 and 2 remain to this day have the best soundtrack to any video game ever.
Streets of Rage was probably one of the best games for the SMD!... nice to see it being resurrected..
can i get a screw uppa
kavadias1981 I bought Ocarina of Time and Streets of Rage yesterday. I'm very happy. ... Not as happy as we are for you.
I bought Ocarina of Time and Streets of Rage yesterday. I'm very happy.
Sword of Vermillion was a great challenge. Looking forward to playing that again
GameSpot is an American site. GameSpot UK is the UK branch of GameSpot. There's also a GameSpot Australia.
Yeah Streets of rage is great, I still got that on the Sega MegaDrive got it for only £2 ^-^. Maxx_the_slash if I lived in America I would expect, there to be information, about American releases, (which there is on this website so I don't know what your talking about) same as I would living in the UK, Gamespot is a universal website. If it doesn't interest you don't read it. Your a person who likes to pick fights thinking there hard, which is pathetic to be honest.
Bah! Who needs a virtual console I've got Streets of Rage 1&2 for my genesis.
great games
"Theres no review for Ocarina because its a long game and Gamespot plays through the entire game before they review it, unlike IGN who just plays the first few hours." I'm sure they played through it 8 1/2 years ago like the rest of us.
Oh yeah, and GameSpot, despite being founded in the UK, is owned by CNET Networks, Inc., which is an American internet media company based in San Francisco.
Because nothing's going on in America. 'course, nothing's going on in Europe either. Iran is where all the cool kids live.
Other sites out there report on all world gaming news, not just the region in which their company resides. You don't see sites like IGN and GameFAQs making reports for just American releases. They report news for all regions as equally as possible. GameSpot is a UK site, ok, but but why just UK coverage? Oh yes, the universe revolves around the UK, right?
Yeah Max_the_Slash, I agree with the other posters when they say you are an ignorant moron. I'm not even in the UK, I live in California! On behalf of all the decent people in the US, I apologize to the UK. Morons like Max_the_Slash should be charged money to breathe because his mere existance is a tax on the intelligence of mankind.
freeware ROMs. Freeware is legal. ROMs are not. VC is legal, and can be played on a big screen with a controller. ROMs can't, unless you hook up your computer to a television, and hook up a gamepad to your computer, which is a lot of trouble. Besides, it worked with iTunes.
Two words: Who cares? Stop reportingh about what happens in the UK, because you report on games being released there when they've been out in America and Japan for longer, yet you don't report those. You do realize, the internet, and thusly Gamespot, are not American inventions, and not exclusive to America, right? Good. Then let me say: You're an idiot, and you make the rest of us Americans look as ignorant as you with your foolish antics.
"Two words: Who cares? Stop reportingh about what happens in the UK, because you report on games being released there when they've been out in America and Japan for longer, yet you don't report those." you are one ignorant person... do you not know that this website is more-or-less for the US and UK... and if you look at a map, you will notice that the UK is in Europe... this post is really for the UK peeps who use this site, if you don't care, don't post/navigate to this topic... I would have thought thet the fact that it have "Euro" in the title would have given it away...
Great that Nintedo squeezes millions out of reselling what pretty much amounts to 2-3MB-sized freeware ROMs. Heaven forbid they make something new.
"Two words: Who cares? Stop reportingh about what happens in the UK, because you report on games being released there when they've been out in America and Japan for longer, yet you don't report those." Wtf does that mean?!

Already downloaded Streets Of Rage :) I played it countless times on my Mega Drive, it rocks!
STREETS OF RAGE
Why do American releases barely ever get announced in advance? @Ministry4390: They've played through the game a million times... and they don't always play through the whole game. I think they may just be trying to figure out what to do with it... rating this game is a pretty delicate matter when it comes to the fans. Maybe they're waiting for another site to review it first.
i used to love streets of rage when i was a kid But now i have to buy some more wii points :(
They need Streets of Rage 2...
no hurry to get online then....
Theres no review for Ocarina because its a long game and Gamespot plays through the entire game before they review it, unlike IGN who just plays the first few hours.
Why is there still no review for Ocarina on VC?
Chew Man Fu!? Funky name. :)
never was impressed with the first streets of rage, but the 2nd is a classic and is still great fun today
streets of rage had catchy music to the first level if i remember :) hasent lasted to well since the side scrolling beat'em up is a thing of the past these days
