Foundation 9 merges Shiny, Collective
Studios behind Silent Hill 5 and The Golden Compass adaptation merged by parent company, awaiting new name.
Calling itself "the largest independent games developer in North America and Europe," Foundation 9 has prided itself on the array of studios at its command since it was formed in March 2005. Despite that, the company's roster of studios is shrinking, as it today announced that its recent acquisition Shiny Entertainment would be merged with Foundation 9 cofounding developer The Collective.
Foundation 9 says the merged studio will be better equipped to make "large-scale games based on big licensed properties." The two merged Newport Beach, California-based studios have already moved to Foundation 9's corporate headquarters in nearby Irvine, California.
The new studio will also be given an as-yet undetermined new name, and will be headed up by Shiny studio manager Michael Persson. No staffers will be laid off in connection with the merger. At the moment, Shiny is finishing up development of The Golden Compass for Sega, while The Collective is working on Silent Hill 5 for Konami, and the horror action adventure Harker.
Shiny's The Golden Compass is a real FART!
oh yeah
I dont care. I will keep whining until shiny makes a new Earthworm Jim
I'm a Silent Hill fan since its release on PS one. From what I heard, I hope SH5 won't be the worst game of its year... or may of all time
I hope Shiny has plans for a new MDK!!
Silently awaiting the hill...that is silent. The Fifth.
more news aboyut the game
boo-hoo! shiny hasnt done crap since days of PSone or at least i dont remember anything worth thinking about. As long as the core remains and they can pump out some new ORIGINAL games and not milk money on 74th sequel to a game they might be able to re-establish themselves!
Silent hill 5 looks stunning i can;t wait for the game to come out
wish silent hill 5 would come to PC...DEEP WISH!!!
sweetness
Anyway , I will be waiting for the both ( Silent Hill 5 and Harker ) Keep going and release more gameplay videos and interviews about the games ;)
Shiny-Collective, lol.
hope bring out the game as soon as posible. i'm tired of waiting.
The Shiny Collective?
Interesting development. I wanna see what SH5's gonna be like even more now.
Hope they do Silent Hill 5 justice !!!!
I like more the name of Silent Hill....
i hope silent hill 5 to be like its predecessors.
hope this wont affect silent hill much.
Fusing 2 crappy studios to make one super crappy studio.
from the ads I've seen the quality and realism they seem to strive for for the Golden Compass could be a very good thing for Silent Hill I think this could be very good
Nice
hopefully they will make sh5 good i havent seen/played a new good scary game/movie in a long time i need one...badly
i hope silent hill 5 does well.
The Collective has been a good studio, as Chirico said, they made the Buffy games (I liked the 1st one alot). Shiny I'm not a fan of after they butchered Enter the Matrix.
Can they really do Silent Hill 5 justice?
sounds good, they both have a good history with games.
The Collective made the decent Buffy games, and that so-so Indiana Jones game that everyone's forgotten.
Silent Hill = good game . (period)
Shiny was a great studio, Sacrifice was amazing
There has been a media blackout on Harker for a long time now, it was announced like a year ago, if not more. But yes, based on Jonathan Harker from Dracula yes...
Sounds nice. I'll check the previews for some of the games.
Hrmm...this is an interesting merge. The Collective did relatively good jobs with games like Buffy, Star Wars Episode III, and more recently, Marc Ecko's Getting Up. Meanwhile, Shiny was a god in the old days with Earthworm Jim and Wild 9, but the Matrix games they worked on definitely tore things apart for them. Both, regardless, are very unique minds in the industry, so it's going to be exciting to see what they have coming out of their studios.
Too bad Perry's no longer with Shiny.
good news I reckon
Never heard of Harker... Jonathan Harker? From Dracula?
