Forza Motorsport 5 will run in 1080p at 60fps

But Microsoft says it won't force developers to adhere to frame rates or resolutions.

Turn 10 Studios' upcoming Xbox One racer Forza Motorsport 5 will run at 60 frames per second in native 1080p resolution, the studio has confirmed.

Speaking in an interview with GameSpot about the pressure of developing a Forza Motorsport in time for the Xbox One launch later in 2013, Turn 10 Studios' content director John Wendel said, "I believe we're uniquely positioned to deliver on that challenge. We're a huge epic game that's going to be running at 1080p, 60fps on the next-gen console, so it's an incredible opportunity on one hand, but you have to be incredibly flexible and agile and self-aware on the other hand."

Elsewhere, in an interview with the latest issue of UK gaming magazine Edge, Microsoft Studios vice president Phil Spencer said that Microsoft will not force its Xbox One developers to adhere to specific frame rates or resolutions.

"It's important we give creators the best tools to create the best experience possible," said Spencer, "and I don't think that platform holders can dictate what the internal frame buffer size should be."

"Forza 5 runs at 60 frames per second, but other people will make different trade-offs," said Spencer, adding that "resolution is not the thing that maximises beauty."

2011's Forza Motorsport 4 ran at 60fps in 720p, but last year's spin-off, Forza Horizon, dropped to a frame rate of 30fps.

Forza Motorsport 5 will be released later in 2013 alongside the Xbox One.

Wrong.

It is the best console racer that's ever been.

Go troll somewhere else, troll.

M$ not only putting low-end hardware on the box but also making games on this low-end hardware run on framerates and resolutions only high-end pcs can achieve with modern engines like cryengine 3 or frostbyte 2, 3, i think they are suicidal like nintendo

Dannystaples14

@leandrro Yeah except the graphics won't be as advanced as PC. Put any game on lowest settings on PC and turn the res' up to 1080 and most PCs will get 60fps or more.

The new consoles are more powerful than the last ones, but not that much more powerful.

I hope that means that they spend the majority of their power on 1080 and 60fps and keep the actual graphics the same. Might actually get a game worth playing if that happens.

if they start putting this 60fps 1080p all x1 games gonna look like crap in comparison to ps4 30fps games and pc versions

sladakrobot

@leandrro Forza 4 runs with 60fps at 720p with no problems!

Why shouldnt the X1(which is supposed to be 10 times as powerfull as the X360) be able to handle 60hz at 1080p?

leandrro
leandrro

@sladakrobot the x1 is 3,5 times more powerfull than the x360, ps4 is about 6 times, forza could look much better in 30fps, just like bf3 looks much better than modern warfare, the problem is that its gonna be compared to ps4 1080p 30fps games, or even ps4 720p 30fps games and gonna look like shit depite better framerate

I never found FPS to be important in a game unless it's a fighting game @,@ i'm okay with 30FPS shooters and i don't think it matters at all on a racing game....

I need 60 fps in fighters, racers and shooters. It's helpful, but optional, in any other genre.

1080p 60fps on a HD7770 like video card? so M$ is basically telling us its gonna look like shit?

@leandrro No,thats you saying that.

@sladakrobot @leandrro or may be sorcery will improve visuals, NFS most wanted cant make 20fps in ultra settings 1080p on xbone (hd 7770 video card)

sladakrobot

@leandrroYou must be then the only person outside of MS and Turn 10 who was able to play Forza 5 as all of us others got to see was a teaser and no gameplay.
Write a review,i am sure everybody would like to read it.

@leandrro And still,we will have a Forza 5 with 60fps at 1080p...sounds like magic :)

sladakrobot

@leandrro Could be true but i am pretty sure that inside the X1 is not just 1 videocard to be found.

leandrro
leandrro

@sladakrobot @leandrro no, the 2012's need for speed most wanted run at about 20fps (in pc ultra settings) in a xbone like PC with a hd 7770 video card, so forza would look much poorer than this need for speed to be able to run in 60fps 1080p

I've never been into the Forza franchise. But I guess with the X1 coming that will be as good a time as any to try it out.

I wish they would put forza on PC, I am certainly not going to be buying an xbone for this.

Didn't PS1 run in 60fps too?

IceJester45
IceJester45

It sure enough did, although very, very rarely. A bonus disc that came with R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 featured a playable version of the original Ridge Racer that ran at 60 fps. Initially, Namco wanted to make Ridge Racer run at 60 fps back in 1995, when Ridge Racer came out as a PlayStation launch title. However, the company abandoned the idea.

Consoles since then -- from the Dreamcast to the WiiU -- regularly run games at 60 fps. However, unless you're talking about a remake, like Perfect Dark for Xbox 360, or a relatively simple game, like Super Stardust HD for the PlayStation 3, you don't usually see newer games running at 60 fps and 1080p native.

@IceJester45 If i remember well, the game Motortoon  GP2 for PS1offered a bonustrack and a bonuscar(stockcar-like) which felt extremelx fluid compared to the main game.
I would guess that run also on 60 fps.
Can anyone confirm that?

IceJester45
IceJester45

I remember that game. It was made by the creator of Gran Turismo. It was a very good title, but I don't remember if it ran at 60 fps. It's possible.

I think a few 3-D fighters ran at 60 fps, too.

Who cares! I'm glad that they finally put in a processor that will make the transition from console to PC much much better and easier.

@charlesdao haha its 60fps in a racing game though. Not exactly ground breaking. I mean unless you're upgrading from old school nintendo to a xbox one later this year?

@charlesdao  Angry? more like surprised by exclusive console gamers celebrating this.....It's like 1080p/ 60 FPS combo has been science fiction coming true lol

@frozenux At least your ports will look better now.

tolys

@frozenux It's not only the hardware that make porting from consoles to pc difficult or not it's also the developer tools.

frozenux
frozenux

@Dannystaples14 @frozenux  Yeaaaah bright side to this. But Ports...i don't know....those consoles are basically PCs in a box(even down to the way of dealing with DRM),I'm not sure if we can technically still talk about ports now.
