Forza Motorsport 5 will run in 1080p at 60fps

But Microsoft says it won't force developers to adhere to frame rates or resolutions.

Turn 10 Studios' upcoming Xbox One racer Forza Motorsport 5 will run at 60 frames per second in native 1080p resolution, the studio has confirmed.

Speaking in an interview with GameSpot about the pressure of developing a Forza Motorsport in time for the Xbox One launch later in 2013, Turn 10 Studios' content director John Wendel said, "I believe we're uniquely positioned to deliver on that challenge. We're a huge epic game that's going to be running at 1080p, 60fps on the next-gen console, so it's an incredible opportunity on one hand, but you have to be incredibly flexible and agile and self-aware on the other hand."

Elsewhere, in an interview with the latest issue of UK gaming magazine Edge, Microsoft Studios vice president Phil Spencer said that Microsoft will not force its Xbox One developers to adhere to specific frame rates or resolutions.

"It's important we give creators the best tools to create the best experience possible," said Spencer, "and I don't think that platform holders can dictate what the internal frame buffer size should be."

"Forza 5 runs at 60 frames per second, but other people will make different trade-offs," said Spencer, adding that "resolution is not the thing that maximises beauty."

2011's Forza Motorsport 4 ran at 60fps in 720p, but last year's spin-off, Forza Horizon, dropped to a frame rate of 30fps.

Forza Motorsport 5 will be released later in 2013 alongside the Xbox One.

Who cares! I'm glad that they finally put in a processor that will make the transition from console to PC much much better and easier.

Angry PC gamers coming!

@charlesdao haha its 60fps in a racing game though. Not exactly ground breaking. I mean unless you're upgrading from old school nintendo to a xbox one later this year?

@charlesdao  Angry? more like surprised by exclusive console gamers celebrating this.....It's like 1080p/ 60 FPS combo has been science fiction coming true lol

@frozenux At least your ports will look better now.

@frozenux It's not only the hardware that make porting from consoles to pc difficult or not it's also the developer tools.

frozenux

@Dannystaples14 @frozenux  Yeaaaah bright side to this. But Ports...i don't know....those consoles are basically PCs in a box(even down to the way of dealing with DRM),I'm not sure if we can technically still talk about ports now.

This is cool of course it's cheap now a days to get this on a PC too, but PC gamers want to act like it was super easy to get this running back in 2006 when the only decent looking games by today's standards were Oblivion lol.

THIS JUST IN: THIS ARTICLE IS NOT RELATED TO PC GAMING.

There seems to be some confusion.

@Dbizzles But where else am I going to brag that I already play F1 2012 in 1440p at more than 60fps?

I wonder if my first-party x360 wheel will work with Xbone.  I bet not.  Or I may have to pay an activation fee to use it.

I guess that kills those stupid rumors that the XBox One can't run 1080p games. lol!! Why is Killzone running at only 30fps? It should be running at least at 90fps considering how much more powerful the PS4 is compared to the XBox One.

frozenux
frozenux

@blackace  yeah sure because forza is a graphic intensive game....

blackace
blackace

@frozenux @blackace Doesn't need to be. If the PS4 is more powerful is should be cake for it to run a FPS at 1080p a@60fps. I honestly don't see the issue. I'm sure PC guys would agree.

MoreThot

@blackace @frozenux idk. FPS and racing games are completely different. There's a lot more going on in a FPS, explosions, debris, ragdoll physics (if the game supports it) lighting etc etc.. It also depends on the FPS, a game like CoD for sure run at 60fps since its garbage, but bf4 or 3 would be a different story since its on a much larger scale.

FabledVeteran

@blackace

Don't really need 60fps on a shooter imo... and if its at 30fps they can use the resources to create much more vibrant and detailed environments, like the ones we saw in the reveal which looked incredible...

Also i believe COD games run at 60fps (which proves it doesn't always give good results graphically because they obviously have to sacrifice certain things to keep it smooth)

blackace
blackace

@FabledVeteran CoD isn't at 1080p. lol!! KZ:SF looks good, but no better then some of the FPS on PC. I'm hoping the game play is better then KZ3.

FabledVeteran
FabledVeteran

@blackace
I know i didn't say it was 1080p, i was talking only about the fps :P

Yeah i'd agree but as a console gamer i see it as quite a step up to see a game looking like KZ:SF did, that city looked really pretty with all the fog and sunlight bouncing off it, the original KZ was the only one i played... so i couldn't comment on KZ3

I know that Forza 5 will be great both in gameplay and graphics but the content will be half of it. Gran Turismo 3 on PS2 launch and Forza 2 on Xbox 360. Those games made their first entries in the next gen with improved graphics but with half ot if content.

ExplosivePants
ExplosivePants

Yep. It is a fact. But not by much. I know PC hardware and I know what's in the new machines (PC parts). I know that the PS4 is more powerful and that is the same hardware but higher clocks. Like I said, not by much. Take a look at the specs sometime.

Are they setting us up for another '...but because of this we couldn't make a game with different Weather conditions... Maybe next time'

I really hope not...

You know something... I would take current gen graphics with local multiplayer (4 views at the same time) any day over more online only multiplayer games at a higher res....

This is a nice feature and as a PC gamer having higher frame rates and higher resolution really does matter. However we're already moving into the 1440 to 1600P space now and much higher resolution monitors are becoming more affordable.

somatzu
somatzu

@egger7577 The other trend, besides higher resolution, is higher refresh rates. Although the common idea is that the human eye cannot detect increased motion above 60 fps, it's actually more like 90 fps. Also, at 60 fps, there is still a lot of motion blur, and if you have a good graphics card, it's probably pumping out frames faster than the average 60hz lcd monitor can display them, which means tearing, which means turning on v-sync, which means throttling performance. Lot's of gamers are getting lcd monitors with 120 and even 144hz, and my god the motion is so amazingly smooth - you just have to be able to run the game you're playing above 60fps to really get the benefits.

But yeah, tl:dr, high monitor refresh rates are dank, so hopefully Xbx1/ps4 games won't just stop at 60fps, cause that would be a shame to waste the benefits of a high monitor refresh rate.

CraigNinten
CraigNinten

@somatzu I dont know man, my monitor locked the refresh rate at 60hertz

somatzu
somatzu

@CraigNinten @somatzu yeah, it's probably your monitor's maximum refresh rate. you have to buy a monitor that specifically states that it has 120 or 144hz

@egger7577  Yeah 1080p is pretty much standard these days ,it's the new 720p.I'm really looking to see where we will get in 5 years.

@garysingh34 Oh much respect to the GT series, they started it all and to me TRULY started the sim genre. I still think Forza took the best of the GT elements and pushed the envelope a bit further though with customization and community elements.

@blackace You can see gameplay for Drive Club already, and it's not a sim racer. Its like Burnout with nice graphics, unfortunately:/

blackace

@EL_Bomberdor @Th3realist I'm dying to see a full comparison between GT6 and Drive Club when they both are released. Which will be the BEST PS4 Driving simulation on the PS4. Polyphony has some stiff exclusive competition on Sony's system.

Think Drive Club will be the first we see of real next gen graphics. From what I hear they have invested some right time into it.

Its a real shame this game is on Xbone only as I, along with the majority of gamers, will be getting PS4/sticking to PC and have to pass on this.

@garysingh34  Yup, I liked Forza, in fact I think it's much better than GT but as things stand right now I won't be buying an Xbox

blackace
blackace

@northArrow @garysingh34 We'll see what happens at the E3. The Xbox One may end up being an exclusive only system, like my PS3 currently is. Only buy brand new exclusive games for it. No 3rd party games if that used games DRM policy stays in place and isn't on the PS4. M$ needs to fix that as soon as their conference starts at the E3.
